Amerisoft dvd ripper

2015-10-02 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk
Hi all.

Does anyone have suggestions for improving the accessibility performance of
Amerisoft DVD ripper?

I've purchased it because of its promise to integrate cvd rips into Itunes.
I wish to play DVD movies via my Apple Tv and Home Sharing.

I'm currently of the impression that it will work with Window-Eyes 9.2, but
things could be better.

Hope I haven't totally wasted my scarce funds.

Thanks in advance.

Vaughan.

For those getting a error message when trying to get the kb3093266 using
windows update I have the solution.
Just got off the phone with the Microsoft disability hotline and the
only way they could get the update to download and install on my
computer was to get the file and do a manual install of the update. The
download can be gotten from the Windows download catalog. Just google
windows download catalog and enter the kb3093266 and download it. It is
something like 230MB so it may take a while to download.
I have it installed now and it definitely improves upon WE performance.

I am running the insider preview build 10547 of Windows 10 and Window-Eyes
9.2. If I open the Action Center and then press Windows-M, focus does move
to the list of shortcuts on the Desktop. But, if I arrow around, the focused
shortcut's name is not announced only the shortcut's tooltip when it is
displayed. If I use Windows-D instead, everything works as expected. So,
Rod, I would recommend trying Windows-D instead of Windows-M to see if that
helps. I will try to duplicate this issue, and if I can, will work on
logging an official bug report.

Thanks,

Rod,

Regarding the action center, I just went there and immediately pressed
Windows-M. My focus was then on the desktop with no lock ups. Are you
running a stock Windows 10 build, or have you tried the latest Insider build
10547?

Hi,

One possibility is an anti-virus scan scheduled task, and I prefer never to
allow these to run automatically.
Admittedly, since switching to Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7
64 bit system and now Windows Defender on my Windows 10 64 bit system, I
haven't seen any lockups of speech, at least not out of the blue without my
touching my keyboard.
One thing I have noticed on my Windows 10 system is when I am in the
Action center portion of the notification area and I press Windows-M to
attempt to go to my desktop icons, it is common for WE to lockup, requiring
me to press Control-Alt-W to reload, and this can take a good few seconds
before WE comes back.
To avoid this problem, I now tab out of the Action Center to go to the
icons.
Also, I did notice the other day that when my wireless keyboard loss battery
power, WE locked up and this was simply due to my trying to press keys.
When I put the new batteries into the keyboard and press Control-Alt-W, WE
came back, but isn't it interesting that this would cause a speech lockup?

I hope this helps,

Rod

Hi: Havent followed this thread but...
If it is a web page it sounds more like the website may be performing some
maintenance on their server(s) and something is causing a problem that
WindowEyes may not be able to handle.
Websites often perform necessary maintenance on the same day of each month,
sometimes each week, and that can cause the web site or some pages to either
be down or some unexpected results to return to the browser.
It also could be, as Chris mentioned, you have something scheduled to run at
that day and time or perhaps even an app that was loaded by the vendor when
you purchassed the machine having problems like trying to call home and
waiting for a response that never comes.
These are not a WindowEyes problem but if your machine loses speech or locks
up whenever this happens due to some third party operation that, in my old
fat blind guy opinion, is a WindowEyes problem.
But, the simple approach, work-around, is do your work either earlier in the
day, later or on another day unless it is a date time critical operation.
Other than that you would have to identify, ask around this list, what
program is causing the problem and try to work-around it or deactivate it if
something you don't use anyway.

Hi,
If it is the last Monday of the month regardless of the date, it sounds like
you have some kind of scheduled task running.
Open the task scheduler and see if there is a task set to run at that time,
what it is and stop it.

Subject: WE and Electronic Time card data collection software?

Good morning all,
I hope someone on this list has encountered this issue.
Our company is considering getting away from paper time sheets and
implementing an electronic solution for time collection. It is either done
through an actual card swipe or through a smart phone app for clocking in
and out.
So far I have investigated two possible solutions.
One product is called Exak time, and the other is called About Time.
Both systems have a program that would live on our server in the office that
is the actual collection area for all login data for the time.
Exak Time has no trial software program that I may play with to see if WE
will work with its control panel.
About Time engineers said that there is no keyboard support for their
control panel.

So does anyone here deal with any sort of time collection system that does
work with WE? Has anyone here ever heard of either of these products and
know if they are indeed accessible?

I would like to be able to use the software but... If I am not able to find
a workable solution it may become someone else's job to manage payroll, and
I'll have to find another hat to ware. Smile

Any advice or alternatives are welcome and appreciated.
Thanks
Shannon

Re: WE and Electronic Time card data collection software?

2015-10-02 Thread Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc. via Talk

Hello shannon:

It's more than a 64-million dollar question! To the best of my knowledge,
there's no screen reader that works with any electronic time card equipment.
I've been trying to implement one in my business, and the issues you
described numbs my feet.

Perhaps Latham might be a better company to approach. They do have, if
memory serves, time clocks that permit the swiping of the time card. I
believe they'll send you a demo copy of their software to play with. It's
been a while since I talked to them, but they were very friendly over the
phone. I think that Latham does have electronic time card equipment that
can make a wireless broadcast directly to the software residing on a server.
I'll plan on calling them again to check on what's new lately.

I surmise that you work in payroll? How hard is that to do from a blindness
perspective? I'm outsourcing payroll presently but, someday, I may have to
learn to do it in-house though the various tax thingies scare the heaven and
hell and earth out of me !!

Sincerely,
Olusegun

RE: Windows 10 performance improvement is just a cumulative update away

2015-10-02 Thread Scott Shade via Talk
I actually ended up having to roll back completely to windows 7 because I
somehow managed to get something corrupted when I did a pc restart after a
later update that must have happened sometime Wednesday or Thursday. My
desktop appeared to be completely emptied, and I couldn't get anything to
read reliably once I had gotten logged on, and nothing would change in my
settings and save once I managed to get that far. I had to use system
access to go as it was the only thing that would somewhat reliably read the
menus and other screens that came up. I was going to try to just reset my
pc under windows 10 to see if that would have fixed the problem, but, when I
was told that it was going to remove all my apps anyways, I was like I might
as well roll back to what worked previously with seven if that was going to
be the case. My copy of window-eyes still works as it was prior to my hang
up, meaning I have my eloquence synthesizer that I bought as an add-on,
whitch is good, but, I hated having to take such a drastic step to fix the
problem in the first place. Has anyone seen anything similar to what I
described, and if you've updated to the latest release of windows 10 with
the new kb applied, what have you noticed with performance improvements? I
would have much preferred to stay with windows 10 if I could have.

RE: Windows 10 performance improvement is just a cumulative update away

2015-10-02 Thread Steve Clower via Talk
Don,

Bring up the settings window with Windows-I. From there, choose "Recovery." As
you Tab, you'll find two buttons labeled 'Get Started." The first is to reset
your current Windows installation, and the second is to begin rolling back to
the previous version. While I have not gone through this step myself, my
understanding is that if you had Windows 10 RTM and updated to and Insider
build, rolling back will effectively put you back on RTM. If in doubt, I
recommend calling the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk for clarification.

Also remember to unenroll your device from the insider program once you are
back to RTM.

Recent Speech Loss and Tool Tips

2015-10-02 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: Just had a WE outage after closing Outlook.
I fired up narrator and WE came back in a few seconds and the first thing I
heard from WE was the words "Tool Tip".
This has also been the case in several other WE outages where I heard the
words "Tool Tip" either when going down or coming back.
I have Speak Tool Tips turned off if I remember in the WE Control Panel.
Does WindowEyes attempt to process ToolTips or only not speak them when the
Speak Tool Tips is turned off in the Control Panel?
Since the words "Tool Tip" have been spoken several times during WE dying or
coming back I am wondering if particular tool tips are causing problems from
time to time even though not being spoken.

WE and Electronic Time card data collection software?

2015-10-02 Thread Shannon via Talk

Thanks
Shannon

RE: losing speech--last Monday of month--early morning

2015-10-02 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
I am running the insider preview build 10547 of Windows 10 and Window-Eyes 9.2.
If I open the Action Center and then press Windows-M, focus does move to the
list of shortcuts on the Desktop. But, if I arrow around, the focused
shortcut's name is not announced only the shortcut's tooltip when it is
displayed. If I use Windows-D instead, everything works as expected. So, Rod, I
would recommend trying Windows-D instead of Windows-M to see if that helps. I
will try to duplicate this issue, and if I can, will work on logging an
official bug report.

Thanks,
Marc

Regarding the action center, I just went there and immediately pressed
Windows-M. My focus was then on the desktop with no lock ups. Are you running a
stock Windows 10 build, or have you tried the latest Insider build 10547?

Subject: losing speech--last Monday of month--early morning

Hi, I'm giving you more information. I have an HP desktop computer, Windows
Vista and WE 8.4. I have a problem with losing speech on the last Monday of
the month in the early morning at around 4:00 a.m. central standard/daylight
saving time. Sometimes control, alt,w doesn't work to restore speech and
control, alt, delete won't work either for some reason. I have to do a hard
reset and then reboot one more time. Sometimes I can't shut down the
computer using control, alt, delete and I need to do a hard reset and
reboot. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks much in advance for
all your help. Gayle ___

RE: losing speech--last Monday of month--early morning

2015-10-02 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Other than that you would have to identify, ask around this list, what
program is causing the problem and try to work-around it or deactivate it if
something you don’t use anyway.

Hi,
If it is the last Monday of the month regardless of the date, it sounds like
you have some kind of scheduled task running.
Open the task scheduler and see if there is a task set to run at that time,
what it is and stop it.

Having begun with a new Windows 10 system and Office 2013, and seen the

RE: Final Message? RE: Sleep Mode Situation

2015-10-02 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Chris: Guess I don’t have a battery on my desktop machine.
I now have done many things attempting to stabalize WindowEyes.
I have downloaded Microsoft software, outdated versions required for
WindowEyes, and some would download, some wouldn’t.
I have mucked with plug in options which actually indicate a problem but was
told to ignore the man behind the curtain.
I wait until WindowEyes reads a line or 2, at least, whenever I open a new
application or switch between applications, helps indeed.
I have mucked with the mouse settings to reduce, not eliminate, phantom
speech by about 90 percent - did not seem to help too much with automatic
dynamics that may, or not, be related to WindowEyes using the mouse behind
the scenes.
I just turned off sleep mode.
I still get speech drop outs and the occasional lockup most often in
Internet Explorer likely due to how WE responds to various dynamics of web
pages.
I get them perhaps a couple to few times a day which is still unacceptible
but better.
Along this path of modification I have spent many, many hours both
researching the problems and trying to find and implement the above
solutions with allot of help from the community and a little from AI
Squared.
Next up if possible is to try and define what is causing the speech drop
outs and lockups in Internet Explorer, Outlook and other programs.
It could be anything from a bad script to something being put into memory
that gets overwritten to thread conflicts.
This may be a result of how the low level message processing or other heavy
technicals are used or how windoweyes handles working in a multi-processor
and multi-threading environment under the latest virtual processor machines
since WindowEyes does not use the .net platform to handle such things as
memory allocation, controls and all that jazz as far as I know.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up but it was detailed, I think, in one of the
messages I sent to the list or to Rod so I wasn’t expecting the 4 combo
boxes on my desktop machine but good heads up for the laptop guys and gals.

If you have a battery, IE a laptop you'll have two for each. A set of combo
boxes for when the computer is plugged in and when it is on battery.

Hi Rick,

I'm running Windows 10, and I also have two combo boxes, the first being how
many minutes before the display is turned off, set to ten minutes by
default, and can be left alone.
The second combo box is the number of minutes before the computer goes to
sleep and that was set to thirty minutes as the default and should be
changed to Never.
By the way, I found the setting by typing power in the search box on the
Start menu, and arrowing down to Power Options.

Good luck,

OK Rod: I set both the combo box settings to never so never hibernate and
never sleep I guess.
Not what I really want in case I want the machine to power save if I end up
away from it for a lengthly period but if it allows me to not lose speech I
guess worth the trade-off.
If it does not work I will post up a follow up message but for now, per your

That is unless, like one article said, these settings might not apply if the
hybrid sleep setting is turned on but I cant find that setting anyplace on
my machine so far.

RE: Final Message? RE: Sleep Mode Situation

2015-10-02 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Rod:
I got there typing sleep into the start box and picking one of the options.
The Dialog came up with the 2 combo boxes and I set both those puppies to
never.
I think this is a well defined problem and this is another tweak that will
help stabalize WindowEyes so I don't get as many speech loss or reading
content problems.
Along with mucking with the mouse settings and letting WindowEyes start
speaking a line or so when switching between applications or opening a new
application I have reduced the speech drop outs and lockups by, a very rough
guess, 50 or better percent.
I still get them sometimes like when doing a read to end in Internet
Explorer or other programs but they were getting really bad a few months
ago.
I am not sure how ram allocation takes place, the WE team are C++ guys and
may be doing something that stuffs something into volitile ram that perhaps
would better be handled in some other way.
This is another reason I have pushed for WE Development using one of the
.net languages in Visual Studio to help avoid low level programming problems
or operating system problems on Windows boxes.
I don't know if this is the underlying cause but it could be.
OK, another one bites the dust and WE is now a little more stable since I
have turned off sleep mode it seems - no losing ram after sleeping since my
computer never sleeps, a sludge hammer approach but if it works and gets the
job done congrats to all who figured this out and indeed good job by the
client community!
