One way of determining whether a quiet machine has shut down is to press
the open button on the CD drive. The door will only open if the machine

Re: sounds volume

2015-10-31 Thread Pamela Dominguez via Talk
That's interesting that your volume lowered with Dec-talk, since it has
always been the louder of the two for me. Eloquence has always been a lot
lower, along with any of the other voices, even with the volume set as high
as it can go. And this has been that way on three different computers. If
there is a way to rectify that, I would be interested in knowing, also.

RE: office 365 installation help

2015-10-31 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: I hate mucking with installations.
I called Microsoft Office staff, the sales department, and they had a fellow
take over my computer and install it with the options I wanted including the
icons on the desktop.
The whole process took less than half an hour after he took control of my
machine.
Note that the fellow was an American, would be leary of someone from another
country who is just a clerk sitting at some machine taking over my computer.
So, if you go this route talk enough to the person who will do the install
to feel confident they can get the job done and backup, backup your system
before he mucks with it so you can do a restore if he mucks things up and
don't try and delete anything before you do a restore if necessary!
That said, the support person did a good job, quick and everything worked
like I told him I wanted it to work but keep your demands simple and basic
since many support staffers are not exactly rocket scientists and your
operating system may depend on what they do to it.

Hi: OK, so it looks like WindowEyes is somehow having a negative impact on
Internet Explorer likely via something it does that steps on what Internet

problems, slowdowns and, or, lockups - perhaps.
This is what I had guessed since people using other readers were not getting
anywhere near the problems that WindowEyes users were getting using various
products when it comes to slowdowns and lockups as well as reading losses on
websites.
I once saw an error message that there was a problem in one of the native
dlls of the operating system that I believe WindowEyes and Internet Explorer
may both be using - not a good idea to continue using native operating
system features when Microsoft is building everything around the .net
framework with specialized handling of operating system dlls for fundemental
operating system features me thinks.
I know that is sort of "geek speak" but the test Manny just ran and
Elizibith concurred on tells me that looking at WindowEyes would be the
prime place to look for a solution to the problem while not excluding other
possibilities.
I have posted on this and other e-lists asking about a tool to monitor what
is going on under the operating system covers when WindowEyes starts to slow
down and crash or stop reading, but nobody has anything other than the Task
Manager which wont tell you anything of use, or usually not, since you cant
read it when the screen reader is dead whether for a few seconds or for
longer.
Nobody had any good ideas of something accessible to track the actions of
things like scripts, system dlls or third party processes that could be
tracked when a problem starts but I am pretty sure one could be built - just
quite complicated and time consuming and a tool that AI Squared has to have
available already or they are in the dark when trying to test and debug
their product - I have not heard from anyone from AI Squared as to what they
use.
At least you can do your work using jaws until, unless, AI Squared figures
out what the problem is and how to fix it - if they can, given the current

RE: office 365 installation help

2015-10-31 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
Jed,

I have been continually frustrated with Microsoft Office installations over
the years. I remember either Office 95 or 2003, for example, where it
wouldn't work with some CD drives and one had to change an obscure setting
even though other installations worked fine.

One think to note is that in at least some places with the Office 365
installation, the "NEXT" button works a little differently. You have to use
ENTER rather than pressing the space bar. There are some web-like web pages
that have information and require that you press "NEXT" that you could
easily miss if you were either in another window or away from your computer.
You didn't say it, but I assume you logged into your Office 365 account at
some point. If you missed that step, that could be part of the problem.

Before you try installing all over again, you might reboot, go to Add or
Remove programs, find Office 365, and press the applications key. There are
usually two options, a quick repair and an online repair. I would try the
"Quick Repair" first and see what that does. If that does not seem to
finish, try the "On Line Repair". It pretty much goes through the install
process again, but it may be able to determine what your machine needs and
is worth a try.

The install does take a while, but not as long as you are finding it to
take, unless you have a poor internet connection. I believe that all of
their setups require a good bit of downloading. You might want to avoid
other downloading or streaming while this is going on. It also might not
hurt to be sure you are up to date on your Windows updates.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Hi: OK, so it looks like WindowEyes is somehow having a negative impact on
Internet Explorer likely via something it does that steps on what Internet
Explorer is doing and if not causing it to crash then causing reading
problems, slowdowns and, or, lockups - perhaps.
WindowEyes platform infastructure.
So, as I am known to say on the Blind Finance list...
Good Hunting Gang!

Re: fb chat with windoweyes

2015-10-31 Thread Jed Barton via Talk
I am looking for the same thing, so by all means if you find something,
let me know.
I heard that you can do fb chat with skype. Can anyone confirm or deny
this?

I tried miranda to chat on fb with windoweyesbut I believe this program

Are there possibilities to do accessible fb chats in windoweyes or must
we simply decide that WE has no solution to make fb chats?

questions about excel

2015-10-31 Thread Paul Tandy via Talk
Hello all,

I have just started using window-eyes and find that I am quite enjoying the
experience. I have a quick question about exel. I'm wanted window-eyes to read
a complete collumn from say a1 to d1 or however long the collumn goes until a
cell is no longer filled. How do I go about doing this?

Thanks,

Paul

Re: Has Window-Eyes been updated so the mouse stops at the bottom of the screen?

2015-10-31 Thread Rick Jarvis via Talk
I have windows 10 with win-eyes 9.2 and I do not have this happening
with the mouse. It stops at the bottom of the screen and will not go
any farther. I get a tone when I try to go farther past the bottom.
Not sure why yours is doing that but it seems that many users have many
different problems that are unique to their circumstance. Hope this
will work out for you. Rick

Hi.

Ever since Window-Eyes 9, I've had a problem reading information with the
mouse. Specificly, if I moved the mouse to the bottom of the window, then
hit the mouse down key, the mouse would go beyond this boundary, and read
information that I don't think is visible to the screen. If the mouse was
in this spot, and I tried to copy a file, WE would not work, and I'd have to
hit the hot key to restart it. I was wondering if this issue has been
fixed. Last time I checked, in Window-Eyes 9.2, the problem was still
there, but I thought an update would solve the problem. I was using
Window-Eyes in Windows 10, but due to other issues I had to revert back to
Windows 8.1. Because of these issues with Window-Eyes, I've had to use a
different screen reader. I'd be tempted to use WE 8.4, but I don't know how
well it works with Outlook 2016.

Any help would be appreciated on this.

I think you might be on the right track.
I had gotten a blue screen of death and Who Crashed indicated that the
crashed was caused by a WE9.2 dll.

RE: WE9.2 will not allow a I. E. scottrade.com order page to continue

2015-10-31 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Mathew:
I experimented with other browsers but found Internet Explorer more stable
for the sites I use frequently with fewer reading problems and lockups. The
programming staff at Microsoft is quite skilled and among the best in the
business.
Their software is very stable, usually very accessible and has millions and
millions of users who ensure Microsoft keeps their products working with few
problems.
It works across many, many computer configurations and they provide quality,
standardized products that all work with each other seamlessly.
When you start mixing and matching platforms, third-party software and
companies you get into various problems over time and open source, other
than a couple of instances, is the worst to try and live with long term.
But, there are allot of very good and popular non Microsoft products that
work well out there and if they work then the fundemental idea when you have
a job to do is to just get the job done.
So, use whatever works for you.
PS: Where do you do your trading? Do you use Etrade ScottTrade or which
Brokerage?
