I believe you need to press F8 at the beginning and end of the text to
be selected. Then, there should be a choice of plain text or formatted
text.

Still can't get WE to read selected text in Notepad

2015-12-11 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk

Hello Listers,

I asked about this issue a couple of months ago, and never got a
satisfactory answer.

For some reason, on my system, We will not read text as it is selected
via the shift+arrow method. The Notepad set is loading properly, or so
it would seem, and yet for some reason, this problem persists.

Is there any setting I might check or change to permanently solve this
problem?

thanks,

I know this doesn't sound good. but microsoft has the habit of doing
this through windows update. I am running windows 10 on my laptop and it
runs great. I have no problems with windows 10. The best thing I would
do is take the check out of the windows 10 update, and download all the
other updates. And if you want to go ahead and download windows 10
latter on, then you can put a check back in the update and hit the
install button.

Hi,
I sent an email directly to Larry on this issue.

The current workaround is to define the set highlight color hot key select the

press the hot key you defined.
Save the set and shift arrows should read in wordpad under Windows 10.

When I use this feature, I hear the attribute spoken, and when the text
returns to normal or some other attribute, it is spoken. In your example,
you should hear the word bold where the bolding starts and the word normal

When I check a sentence to see what the attributes are, WE will say bold,
but I don't know which word is bold or if the entire sentence is bold.

Re: monthly updates

2015-12-11 Thread net bat via Talk

i'm not kenny
but the biggest problem i have is with wineyes 9.2. it needs more work before
it is used with windows 7 or 10 ,which i have and use.
it loses speech when you open the start menu sometimes and the only fix is to
reload w e.
i have a hard time trying to get to the live tiles? in the apps list. some of
them i haven't figured out how to get to them unless i use the mouse.
with searches in the start menu there are times when the results will not speak
or i have to wait 5 or 10 seconds for w e to catch up with my up and down
arrow key strokes.

it does this in firefox and i e 11 with browse mode too.
with the windows update w e doesn't tell me when a update is installing or not.
i have to find this info with the mouse and wait until it has finished.
the progress indicator does not always work for this. sometimes i have to block
then unblock the screen to get any indication that something is going on.
there must be some way to make w e read pop up dialog boxes automatically
without haveing to press shift control w every time.

all the dialogs say is ok.
like the u a c, the bank when it says a transaction was completed or when it
warns you you will be logged off if you don't click continue. etc.
with firefox the option to read entire dialog or entire message boxes can not
be used because w e treats a firefox screen as a dialog or message box and will
read the entire screen. this is not the read entire page option in browse mode
menus. i have this option turned off, to read nothing.

firefox and or w e will hang every time i open the bookmark list with control
i. my work around for this is to turn browse mode and auto load off before i
open it. after i search for a bookmark and go to the link then close the
bookmark list and turn autoload and browse mode back on it will not hang.

i can use narator or nvda for the bookmark list with no problems.
with firefox 38 esr version on many pages w e treats one heading as more then
one and w e will re read the same headings over and over again.
with some pages w e will re read the entire page when it reatches a heading
that is treated as 2 headdings when it is really one.
with shop.safeway.com when you search for items w e will not read the prices
when you arrow through the list. it justs says price and price.
i have to turn browse mode off then go to the price. then w e will read it.
then turn browse mode back on to read the next item in the list.

Hi,

I am attempting to install the monthly updates on my W 7 HP 32 bit
system and it keeps trying to download W10. There are 12 or 13 updates
for W7 and after checking all the boxes, pressing space on OK, I am left

Pressing enter onthis options starts the download of the monthly

As I am not ready to install W10 as yet, turning off the modem stopped
the download of all updates. Checking the update history, it showed that
the intended updates failed but the first entry mentioned that the
download of W10 also failed.

Has anyone come across this one and figured out how to get the monthly
updates without triggering a W10 invasion?

Thanks

I've been using Windows 10 since the initial release with Win-eyes 9.2.
Now Microsoft just released the major November upgrade which, for the
most part, works fine. Here is my question.

Microsoft has updates constantly being released, usually more than just
monthly at this point.
Window-eyes, on the other hand, is still on version 9.2 released on July
21 before Windows 10 even officially came out! So Win-eyes still with
all of it's bugs and short comings and has not been updated once during
all accept for some app updates here and there.

I'm sure AI Square will release a new version of Win-eyes some time, but
how much longer do we have to wait just to get these bugs fixed? Also
will we be be charge for a new upgrade which, in my opinion, is way over
due. Nobody should have to wait this long!

Chris, I tried what you suggested, but no go. I defined the set color
hot key to ctrl+!, routed the mouse key to the top of the file, then
selected the first five lines or so, and moved the mouse pointer over
the selected text, and pressed said key, but It just wont take. And yes,
I have also saved the set.

Of course, the problem may be that I am still using Windows 8.1and not 10.

I would really like to think that I'm missing maybe one little step, but
I can't think of just what that one little step might be. If you can,
please let me know.

Thanks,

Save the set and shift arrows should read in wordpad under Windows 10.

RE: Major correction - Still can't get WE to read selected text in WordPad

2015-12-11 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Larry,

I'm curious what happens if you place your cursor at the first character of
the first line, and then press Shift-End.
Do you not hear the selected text?

Thanks,

Rod
