Re: directing window-eyes to go through a different sound device

sure, just tell all the other devices to use "default," and window-eyes
to use that device you wish.
Remember though that that device will be what window-eyes uses even
though it's not plugged in? so, you'll have silence then. :)
Unless you have the voice rotor available and can change to another
device using "default."

I’m the original poster of this thread. Thank you to Rod, Yusuf, Charlie and
Neville for replying. Thanks also to David Egolf from Ai Squared for his help.

The issue I reported a week ago now seems to have been fixed by following the
simple steps given by in Knowledge Base article GWKB2044: "Configuring Outlook
for Window-Eyes”.

I did not follow those steps initially, since I instead had set up Outlook 2016
with the same Outlook settings as I had on my previous Windows XP computer
running Outlook 2003 with WE 8.4.0.0. I assumed that it was OK therefore to
have the Reading Pane On, Message Preview On, and to Group messages by “From:”
as I did before.

Apparently not!

Yesterday I followed every step in GWKB2044 (including the step to first check
on the Outlook Enhance app): turned Off the Reading Pane, To-Do Bar, Message
Preview, People Pane, and Grouping; and disabled the Microsoft Outlook Social
Connector Add-in, which was enabled by default.

After making these changes, I no longer experienced a crash when using the
Delete key on a message in the Inbox, or in any other mailbox.

I didn’t try to isolate which one of those changes alone made the difference —
I’m just happy that Outlook no longer crashes!

Lesson learned: if you have any Outlook problem with Window-Eyes, you must do
the steps in GWKB2044 first before you can blame WE.

(Note to tech support: GWKB2044 was authored in 2013 for Outlook 2010/2013
specifically, and could use a few changes that pertain to 2016 as well.)

RE: excelle 2016

2016-05-26 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
Jed,

Be sure you are actually in a spreadsheet. Opening Excel 2013 and 2016 can
put you in a window where you have to choose what you want to do, start a
blank spreadsheet, open an existing one, etc. I think this is what Chris
was getting at when he asked how you are opening it.

If you know you are in a spreadsheet, make sure SCROLL LOCK is off.

Finally, are you accessing the spreadsheet from inside a Dropbox folder? If
so, make sure the Dropbox Preferences has "Show Badges" set to "Never."

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Check your set files to make sure the correct ones are installed. To do
this, press ctrl-backspace to bring up the control panel. Then press alt-F,
then F to bring up the factory settings. Then navigate to the correct
version of office and make sure the set file is correct. If the version
numbers between what is installed and what is available match, then the set
file is up to date.

Set file issues could cause the problem.

Hope this helps.

Hi all

Rod sent me this reply, but I'm sending it to the list, since I feel we're
often unsure as to which inconsistencies to lay at the door of the screen
reader, and which at the dor of Windows.
In this case, it seems to be Windows, and thanks for this Rod.
I've realocated my default sound device, and reassigned Winamp's output plug
in to go to the sound device I previously had as default because it's simply
a better quality device and I broadcast with it.

RE: directing window-eyes to go through a different sound device

2016-05-26 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Reg,

It probably has to do with how successful Windows is at determining how the
sound devices are enumerated, that is, how Windows detects them and puts
them in a list.
I have had the same experience as you, and I have found that the best
solution is to make the one you want Window-Eyes to always come up on as the
default sound device on the system.
Further, that device needs to remain active, and I wrote an app called
AudioActivity, available on App Central, to keep it alive.

Hth,

Rod

rod and anyone else who's interested

Yes, that's how it's supposed to work and, most of the time it does.
The Prolific USB to Serial convertor I use for my old Apolo II comes up
every time at startup if selected. But, as I said in my last post on this
subject, the sound device associated with my Vocalizer Expressive
voice, changes occasionally, and on an apparently random basis. Does anyone
know why?
