RE: How to set computer to open folders in a list view

2016-07-26 Thread Van Lant, Robin via Talk
There are two steps to this. First, open Windows Explorer with Windows key E.
Hit Alt, then V to open the View menu then arrow down the List and hit enter
to select it.
The second step is to tell Windows that you want all folders to display this
way. To do this, hit alt, then T to open the Tools menu, then arrow down to
Folder Options. Selecting this will open a dialog box. Open the View tab in
this dialog and then tab to the button labeled something like apply current
view to all folders.

Re: question to neville about bullguard

2016-07-26 Thread Neville via Talk

Hi,
Whenever a file is treated as a possible threat by Bullguard, it is
removed and shown in the Quarantine list. This is shown under antivirus.
You will need to have all punctuation on and press enter on the line
of three or four dots. Use the WE screen review feature also try the
arrow keys. Unfortunately Bullguard does not talk all that well but most
things can be accomplished with a bit of practice and experimentation.

In the quarantine, each file needs to have a check activated in front of
the file name and unfortunately this box does not talk or is not
tabable. You will need a pair of eyes to do it or have some way of
marking the position. If you have ever used the Auto Hot Key Macro
programme, it is simple to write a macro to click on the correct spot.

Following is a message received from support@bullguard com on how to
restore the file. However, the two WE files were not returned to their
folder so after going through the exercise shown below, I had to
manually copy the files from a backup and then delete them from
quarantine. Other restores have worked correctly though.

HTH
Neville.

 1. Open BullGuard and from the upper menu access Settings > Advanced.
2. Move to the Antivirus section and turn off the Antivirus Protection.
press space on the first checkbox
3. Click on the "back" button (<-) to return to the main interface. This
does not talk so press alt F4 and come back in.

4. In the Antivirus section click on the [...] button and select Quarantine.
5. Place a checkmark in front of the quarantined file, then click on
Restore.

6. Go back in Settings > Antivirus > Tuning.
7. Place a checkmark for "Skip files/folders".
8. Click on the "files/folders" link and then on the plus button to add
the path of the file to the scanning exceptions and confirm with OK.

9. Go up to Antivirus and re-enable the Antivirus Protection.

If this was a win7 to 10 upgrade, go to help/check for updates, reinstall
Window-eyes.
Then, go to the apps menu, diagnostics and repair the Windows 10 display driver
and reboot.

Outlook 2013 and Web Browser Region Messages

2016-07-26 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
On a Microsoft Exchange server, I have started seeing the text (Web Browser
Region) before some messages I have read on the message list. This appears
to be coming from Outlook 2013 because I hear it when using either
Window-Eyes or JAWS. The problem is that when a message has this flag or
whatever it is, the text in the message is sometimes not readable, and
pressing the Attachments button yields "No Attachments" even though I can
then save an attachment from the "File" menu. Does anyone know what this is
and whether it is related to a setting?

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

RE: Free Windows 10 Upgrade

2016-07-26 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
Sure. But keep in mind that these issues aren't specific to Windows 10 or
Office 2016. From time to time, when you first open an Office document, there
is a focus issue which prevents Window-Eyes from reading anything. The
workaround is to focus the Desktop (press Windows Key+D) and then move focus
back to the Office application using Alt+Tab. I also find that Window-Eyes does
not always announce the focused item when you open the context menu in Word.
The workaround is to go to the next menu item with Down Arrow and then move
back up with Up Arrow. You could also use the read current line or speak
summary hotkey to announce the first menu item.
Best,
Marc

Hi Peter,
Since Microsoft Office includes standalone applications that are not part of
the Windows 10 operating system, I don't believe the Windows 10 Anniversary
Update will have a major impact on their current level of accessibility. I just
taught a three day class using Windows 10 and Office 2016. Overall, the
applications played well with the screen reader and provided a similar
experience compared to using older versions of Office and Windows. But, there
were a few intermittent issues that had to be worked around.

Thanks for the link to the Accessibility Blog; MS is indeed committed to

Doug and Dan were much younger.

The mentioned improvements to Narrator, Edge, and so on are impressive! But
what is the state of accessibility to Office apps (Word, Excel, etc.) with
Narrator and Window-Eyes in the to-be-released Windows 10 update on August 2,
2016? Afterall, Office accdessibility is a cornerstone to success in college

a few times now the u a c popped up when the computer was idle on the desktop

RE: Free Windows 10 Upgrade

2016-07-26 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
Hi Peter,
Since Microsoft Office includes standalone applications that are not part of
the Windows 10 operating system, I don't believe the Windows 10 Anniversary
Update will have a major impact on their current level of accessibility. I just
taught a three day class using Windows 10 and Office 2016. Overall, the
applications played well with the screen reader and provided a similar
experience compared to using older versions of Office and Windows. But, there
were a few intermittent issues that had to be worked around.
Best,
Marc

Thanks for the link to the Accessibility Blog; MS is indeed committed to
accessible products for all users. I remember when Bill Gates announced the
commitment during a developer's conference at Microsoft many years ago when
Doug and Dan were much younger.

Getting Rid of the UAC Prompt

Hi, Folks. Just upgraded to Windows 10 on my laptop. It took over 7

Anyway, how do I get rid of the UAC prompt that asks me if I'm sure I
want a program to change my computer? It's very annoying and may have
messed up a few things. I just want to be able to start a program and
let it do it's thing with minimal prompting from me. Thanks in

RE: Free Windows 10 Upgrade

2016-07-26 Thread Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc. via Talk
No, Rick, Edge is still barely accessible from a blindness perspective.
IE11 is still here to stay for a while.

I've read mixed reports regarding the upgrade to Windows10; for some, it's
been great, for many others, it's neither here nor there! I personally DO
NOT care about upgrading to Windows10 right now. What I have and need for
work in particular is still working and I am not about to break it and start
all over. May be I am paranoid, but it's a bread and butter issue for me
presently! With Window-Eyes on the bunsen burner and/or in the cooler, it
behooves me to be somewhat careful and take my plunge slowly.

I have read here and there that Microsoft will be extending the deadline for
individuals who use screen readers and other adaptive technology to access
the computer. That being the case, unless it is absolutely important for
you, I'll recommend waiting just to see how and where Microsoft swings the
pendulum.

Sincerely,
Olusegun
Denver, Colorado

I know very little about poccats and catchers. What catchers work with WE?

Re: task switching

2016-07-26 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk
As I understand it, there is a window that pops up each time you press
alt-tab that actually says "Task Switching." I think I even asked the
same question on this list, and got the same answer, and now that I
realize that I can't do anything about it, I just ignore it.

All I have to say here is calm down. I get this on a Windows 10 machine and
don't worry about it. I also get it on a Windows 7 desktop at work. Using
alt-tab produes this message and it is letting you khow that the task is
switching.

Chill out.

Free Windows 10 Upgrade

2016-07-26 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: I run windows 8.1 and understand the Windows 10 upgrade is free until
july 29 so wonder if anyone has upgraded to windows 10 and how it went
including the new, supposedly more accessible, Edge browser.
