Re: Problem when on websites

2018-02-03 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Peter,
:I've always done the same, just with Alt-D to go to the address bar and
then F6 to return to the page, and it works fine. I can't read the text
immediately with the arrows because it's all selected by default. So I
just press Control-C to copy it, which is the only reason I'm going
there anyway. But if I arrow back and forth a bit it will start reading
after IE catches up and deselects the URL.

For what it's worth, this is on Windows 10.
Hth,
Tom

Re: file explorer in win 10

2018-02-03 Thread peter Chin via Talk

Hello Rod and All,

I have managed to arrange my folders under my user name in a list view as
I like it. However, I still hear extraneous speech such as "a-h", "i-p",
"q-z". How do I stop this?

My machine has Windows 8.1 which I believe is very similar to Windows 10.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi Butch,

I assume you have not, as yet, configured your system to display all folders
in list view or detailed view rather than what is set by default on a new
installation, namely, icons, and I can't remember whether they are small or
medium or large.
Anyway, regardless how they are set, you will neeed to configure this by
opening any folder on your system, set it up the way you like it, and then
make it global.
This is done by opening any folder on your system, in the View tab, opened
with Alt-V, L, and then you'll will get a drop-down with the display options
arranged, in typical confusing Windows 10 fashion, as a grid of options.
Arrowing left and right, up and down, find detailed view, and press Enter.
Okay, after doing this, you'll want to return to the View tab by pressing
Alt-V, and then tabbing through other options for customizing your View,
namely, whether you want your files and folders sorted ascending or
descending, etc, by name, date, and the latter is what I prefer, in contrast
to the Windows default on all systems, but it's your choice.
Again, once you pick each setting, you press Enter to activate it, and this
often closes the tab;
If not, however, you can always Escape out.
Finally, you can set the settings to apply to your whole system by finding
the traditional Folder options dialog which you'll recall from Windows 7.
This is also in the View tab and the shortcut is Alt-V, Y, and press Enter.
As in the old days, once the Folder options dialog is open, Ctrl-tab brings
the View tab to focus, and you can tab to the Apply button to globalize your
settings.
As a rule, everything that was in Windows 7 in present in Windows 10;
They're just in the ribbons of the application you're using, including
Explorer.
I hope this was helpful.

Good luck,

Rod

Hello, using win 10 and Jaws, when I open a folder in file explorer, the
highlight is in the middle of the list instead of at the top. Then as I
am arrowing through the list, the highlight will jump around on me. I
have never experienced anything like this. Is there a setting I need to
change? Is there a tutorial on how to use this win 10 file explorer. All
help is appreciated.

Hi Robert,

Find keyboard and press right arrow twice.
Now, you can down arrow to speckal keys.
Tab twice and you will be in a combo box.
Down arrow to off.
Press tab twice and make sure all items you do not want repeated say
off. Finally, tab to save and press enter.

This next process is not necessary, but I like to keep all of my nodes
closed to prevent my making unwanted changes.
Tab to the tree view, which is just past the minimize button and press
the left arrow until your cursor is sitting on keyboard closed. You can
now press escape or shift tab to minimize button and enter on that.

Keyboard is the root of a tree view that has 5 items. The third of these is
Special. Once you are on the Special branch, start tabbing and you should
find "cursor movement." Down arrow once to turn Cursor Movement off, then
press Enter to save your settings.

Hi Jannet

I am running win 10 version 1709 and have been using the Chrome browser
for about two years. I switched to Chrome because I was having so many
problems with IE and MS has now sealed the fate of it. I generally have
no problems with Chrome but on some occasions, We has stopped talking.
When that happens, I use windows key d to focus on the desktop and then
alt tab to go back to the window that Chrome has displayed. that brings
back speech.

Hi everyone,

The link to the ESR version of Firefox which I placed in my DropBox
pointed to the wrong version, not the U.S. English version.
Therefore, anyone who downloaded the file from my DropBox within the
last half and hour should redownload it, since I have replaced it with
the correct one.

Sorry, and all the best,

Rod

Hi Janet,

I understand, and yet it is common knowledge in the AT community that
the ESR version (extended service release) of Firefox is accessible.
You can download it from my DropBox here:

http://bit.ly/2nEnoor

Some people recommend uninstalling your current version of Firefox
before installing it, and yet I have yet to have a problem (and I have
done it several times) installing it right over the current version.
It will automatically make your bookmarks and settings available.

Best,

Rod

Hello everyone,

I’m having a lot of trouble nagivating websites with W10, Chrome, and the
latest WE with the Chrome app. I’ll start reading something, and WE will
just stop reading or it becomes very slow-nearly nonresponsive. Does
anyone
out there have any suggestions of things to try or change to improve
this?
perhaps I’d be better off with another screen reader? I’d really
rather not
use JAWS as I’m not doing anything very complicated any more and wouldn’t
use most of its features.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Janet

RE: Problems navigating websites

2018-02-03 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi John,

The NVDA synthesizer support page does not mention hardware synths:

https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/ExtraVoices

Best,

Rod

Re: Problems navigating websites

2018-02-03 Thread Bernie Perella via Talk
