Re: Problem when on websites

2018-02-05 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Hi Peter,
I just took another look at the address bar because, as I said, I just
Alt-D, Control-C, F6. What I realized is that the cursor is always at
the end of the line. Once I realized that arrowing back always works.
Then I went to my GMail account and logged in. Arrowing worked there as
well.

Try the following in IE.
Alt-T Tools.
O Internet options.
Shift-Tab up to the General tab and arrow over to Advanced.
Tab once to Accelerated graphics.
Arrow down once to Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering and
press space to check it and turn it on if it's off.

Tab down to the Apply button and press space.
Close and reopen IE.
Hth,
Tom

Hi Janet,

I understand, and yet it is common knowledge in the AT community that the
ESR version (extended service release) of Firefox is accessible.

You can download it from my DropBox here:

http://bit.ly/2nEnoor

Some people recommend uninstalling your current version of Firefox before
installing it, and yet I have yet to have a problem (and I have done it
several times) installing it right over the current version.

It will automatically make your bookmarks and settings available.

Best,

Rod

Hello everyone,

I’m having a lot of trouble nagivating websites with W10, Chrome, and the
latest WE with the Chrome app. I’ll start reading something, and WE will
just stop reading or it becomes very slow-nearly nonresponsive. Does anyone
out there have any suggestions of things to try or change to improve this?
perhaps I’d be better off with another screen reader? I’d really rather not
use JAWS as I’m not doing anything very complicated any more and wouldn’t
use most of its features.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Janet

These are groupings in File Explorer's list view. They can be turned
off by tabbing away from the list view until you hear Group By. Press
enter or spacebar to toggle group sorting.

Hi Peter,

I don't know that this will help, but if I get that problem, I do a
shift-tab and then it seems to work properly. If you listen carefully,
you will probably hear something like "name closed" which means you are
not directly in the list of files and folders. A shift-tab will put you
in the correct place for arrowing up and down through files.

Hi Butch,

I assume you have not, as yet, configured your system to display all
folders

in list view or detailed view rather than what is set by default on a new
installation, namely, icons, and I can't remember whether they are small
or

medium or large.
Anyway, regardless how they are set, you will neeed to configure this by
opening any folder on your system, set it up the way you like it, and then
make it global.
This is done by opening any folder on your system, in the View tab, opened
with Alt-V, L, and then you'll will get a drop-down with the display
options

arranged, in typical confusing Windows 10 fashion, as a grid of options.
Arrowing left and right, up and down, find detailed view, and press Enter.
Okay, after doing this, you'll want to return to the View tab by pressing
Alt-V, and then tabbing through other options for customizing your View,
namely, whether you want your files and folders sorted ascending or
descending, etc, by name, date, and the latter is what I prefer, in
contrast

to the Windows default on all systems, but it's your choice.
Again, once you pick each setting, you press Enter to activate it, and
this

often closes the tab;
If not, however, you can always Escape out.
Finally, you can set the settings to apply to your whole system by finding
the traditional Folder options dialog which you'll recall from Windows 7.
This is also in the View tab and the shortcut is Alt-V, Y, and press
Enter.
As in the old days, once the Folder options dialog is open, Ctrl-tab
brings
the View tab to focus, and you can tab to the Apply button to globalize
your

settings.
As a rule, everything that was in Windows 7 in present in Windows 10;
They're just in the ribbons of the application you're using, including
Explorer.
I hope this was helpful.

Good luck,

Rod

Hi Steve,

Thanks very much for your help about what to look for.
After carefully perusing one of the cautionary messages which google had sent,
they had provided a direct link to a page where I could enable the use of
less-secure apps.
After doing this, I was able to add my Gmail account with no problems.

Thank you so very much,

Rod,

I don't know the specific problem you are having, but here are two possible
stumbling blocks. You may need to set the security for your account to
allow the use of legacy applications. I believe it is in the security part
of settings, and I don't remember the specific description. You will be
warned against this, but I have not had issues with doing this. Google
tends to warn you against doing anything other than using Google's tools.

Second, If you have Google set up to sending you notifications of activity,
check the email account they go to with another program or on the web
interface to be sure your new connection is not triggering such a warning.
It is possible you will need to follow a link where you can specify that a
given access was known to you. It is possible that your setup is fine but
that the test message that Outlook is sending is being rejected so Outlook
thinks the setup failed. If you don't get email warnings, go to the web
site and check for notifications. I can't be much more specific because I
have had to do it rarely, but you will find it given what I have seen of
your abilities over the years.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Hi everyone,

Is there a trick to configuring a Gmail account in Outlook 2010?
Here are the settings I've found on the google site, and they don't seem to
work for me:

Note: To avoid locking yourself out of your account, make sure you don't
exceed 2500 MB per day for IMAP downloads and 500 MB per day for IMAP
uploads. If you're setting up a single IMAP account on multiple computers,
try taking a break between each setup.
Set up IMAP

GMail with Outlook 2010

2018-02-05 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi everyone,

Is there a trick to configuring a Gmail account in Outlook 2010?
Here are the settings I've found on the google site, and they don't seem to
work for me:

Note: To avoid locking yourself out of your account, make sure you don't exceed
2500 MB per day for IMAP downloads and 500 MB per day for IMAP uploads. If
you're setting up a single IMAP account on multiple computers, try taking a
break between each setup.
Set up IMAP
Step 1: Check that IMAP is turned on
On your computer, open
Gmail
.
In the top right, click Settings
Settings
.
Click Settings.
Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
In the "IMAP Access" section, select Enable IMAP.
Click Save Changes.
Step 2: Change SMTP & other settings in your email client
Use the table below to update your client with the correct information. For
help updating your settings, search your email client's Help Center for
instructions on setting up IMAP.
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server
imap.gmail.com
Requires SSL: Yes
Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server
smtp.gmail.com
Requires SSL: Yes
Requires TLS: Yes (if available)
Requires Authentication: Yes
Port for SSL: 465
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587

That will not work when voiceover is off, so clicking the home button
