RE: changes in drop box

2019-10-04 Thread bjcolt via Talk
Hi Rod,

I always viewed the drop box folder using the arrow keys. That view no
longer works for me. I have to use the numpad arrow keys to view the drop
box folder.

I am unable to paste any files in drop box, even though I have selected a
sub folder. I can't open the folders either. They changed the interface.

I was able to arrow down press enter on a folder and either copy or paste in
a folder or file. I can't do that any more.

Hi John,

Precisely are you trying to view your folders?
Do you not still have the DropBox desktop software installed, which creates
a personal folder, normally as a child of your user folder?
And then your shared folders, which you set up with fellow DropBox users,
are children of your personal folder.
Also, you can view your DropBox account on the web, with the browser and
screen reader of your choice.

Hope this helps,

Rod

Hi John,

I'm sorry but we don't seem to be on the same page.
Let's try to go slowly in order to diagnose this problem.
Do you have an icon called DropBox on your desktop?
If you press Enter on this icon, it should open the DropBox folder which should
display exactly like any other folder on your system.

Best,

Rod

Hi Rod,

Sorry but it doesn;'t do as on the tin. Smile

When I open drop box. The page is blank. The only way I can read anything is
use the arrow keys on the numpad. Tabbing doesn't work either.

To select a named folder I use the arrow keys on the numpadto first select a
named folder. Then the arrow ke to the right of control. Those keys don't
speak but the named folder changes with the up or down arrow keys. The
numpad arrow keys don't change the named folder in any way.

I hope that makes sense?

RE: changes in drop box

2019-10-04 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi John,

Okay, just checked my version of the DropBox desktop app.
I did this by opening the system tray using Insert-S which is the Window-Eyes
hot key for doing this.
It is 82.4.155.
It was updated yesterday according to Add/Remove programs.
I'm running Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
I have a desktop icon for DropBox.
When I press Enter on it, it opens my personal DropBox folder. which displays
just like any other folder on my system.
And, within this folder are all my shared folders, that is, folders I have
shared with other specific people, like you and I had, at one time.
I don't know what else I can say except that you could uninstall and then
reinstall the desktop app and log in again.
The key thing to note is that the DropBox desktop application is the most
easily accessible way to manage sharing files on a daily basis.

Good luck,

Rod

Sorry but it doesn;'t do as on the tin. Smile

When I open drop box. The page is blank. The only way I can read anything is
use the arrow keys on the numpad. Tabbing doesn't work either.

To select a named folder I use the arrow keys on the numpadto first select a
named folder. Then the arrow ke to the right of control. Those keys don't speak

keys don't change the named folder in any way.

I hope that makes sense?

Hi Rod,

I always viewed the drop box folder using the arrow keys. That view no longer
works for me. I have to use the numpad arrow keys to view the drop box folder.

I am unable to paste any files in drop box, even though I have selected a sub
folder. I can't open the folders either. They changed the interface.

I was able to arrow down press enter on a folder and either copy or paste in a
folder or file. I can't do that any more.

Hi John,

Precisely are you trying to view your folders?
Do you not still have the DropBox desktop software installed, which creates a
personal folder, normally as a child of your user folder?
And then your shared folders, which you set up with fellow DropBox users, are
children of your personal folder.
Also, you can view your DropBox account on the web, with the browser and screen
reader of your choice.

Hope this helps,

RE: changes in drop box

2019-10-04 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
John,

I also have version 82.4.155 that Rod mentions. I set up my own desktop
shortcut to go to the Dropbox folder, so that could make a difference, but
using that shortcut works fine. My understanding is that they did update their
software and possibly their website and it does cause us some problems. There
is said to be a way to restore some of the old behavior as I understand it, but
I don't know what it is. I don't blame you for feeling frustrated, but to make
sure we are all on the same page, try navigating to your DropBox folder using
Windows Explorer rather than using any shortcuts and see if that works all
right. It doesn't seem likely that their software would change how your
Windows Explorer interface works, although it might affect the "View". If that
doesn't work, tell us what menu items you get when you go to the nonfunctioning
dropbox window. In particular, if there is a "View" menu, select that and down
arrow to see if there is a "Details" item, press ENTER on that, a
nd see if that helps. It seems most likely that you are still going through
the software when you are looking at your DropBox files.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Re: changes in drop box

2019-10-04 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Hi John,
I think first we have to all get on the same page here. And that is
where exactly are you opening Dropbox, in Windows Explorer, in your
browser, or in the new Dropbox app. Be it that you're using mouse keys
and the tab key I assume it's either your browser or the new Dropbox app.
If it's your browser and you're using Internet Explorer they've probably
dropped support for it.
If it's the new Dropbox app you can go into preferences and turn it off.
I don't have the details because I'm in a rush and I just popped up the
app and read that. For anyone else who wants to help, the way I opened
the app was by going to my Dropbox folder, selecting a sub-folder,
opening the context menu, and using Open in Dropbox. There's no keyboard
access.
Otherwise John, assuming you have a Dropbox folder on your system you
can just go to that in Windows Explorer and it will work fine because
Dropbox can't change anything there. But having that folder is an option
when Dropbox was installed because it's a mirror of your Dropbox on the
web and everyone doesn't have the space to use it that way. Then again,
perhaps making it a mirror was the option. I forget. I did it because
it's on another drive; so that gives me an on-site Dropbox backup.

Tom

Hi John,

Okay, just checked my version of the DropBox desktop app.
I did this by opening the system tray using Insert-S which is the
Window-Eyes hot key for doing this.
It is 82.4.155.
It was updated yesterday according to Add/Remove programs.
I'm running Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
I have a desktop icon for DropBox.
When I press Enter on it, it opens my personal DropBox folder. which
displays just like any other folder on my system.

Good luck,

2019-10-04 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Hi John,
Good news! It has nothing to do with Windows 7. It's just that the new
app is set to run by default. Here's what you have to do to set it back
to open your Dropbox folders in Windows Explorer.
Go to the Dropbox button in the system tray and press Enter. This should
open the context menu.

Arrow up to Preferences and press Enter.
You should come in on the General tab. Tab down until you come to the
"Open folders in" combo-box. It will be set to Dropbox desktop app.

Alt+Down arrow to expand the combo-box.
Now up arrow to Explorer and press enter to select it.
Tab down to the OK button and press enter.
You should be as good as new.
Regards,
Tom

Re: changes in drop box

2019-10-04 Thread David via Talk
Still under Win7, so don't know if this will contribute anything at all.
But thought to throw in a couple of ideas.

First of all, If you ope a normal session in Windows Explorer, i.e by
hitting Windows-E.

Now move to your standard drive, like C:.

in the root of that drive, you likely will have a foldr, named Users,
and under that one, every of your user profiles have their own
subfolder. Go to the subfolder of your Username, and I think it is under
AppData that you will find the Dropbox subfolder. This is the
down-to-basic way of reaching the Dropbox folder, and the oneapproach I
used a couple of days ago. It worked back then, but that might have been
prior to any updates of the Dropbox software.

Still, I don't understand, how Dropbox would prevent you from getting
normal results, when going this rather manual way. You should be able to
reach your local copy of the dropbox folder. That is, long as your
system is set up to hold a local copy, of course.

Second idea, please open the Windows Task Manager, by hitting
Ctrl-Shift-Escape. Scroll down to Dropbox, and hit Alt-E, to end the
process, and hit Enter to confirm. Press Escape to get out of the Task
Manager. If everything went well, your Dropbox is now temporarily turned
off, and your system might leave you the chance of getting to the local
Dropbox folder on your hard Drive.

Thirdly, if any of it all does not work, here is one more thing to try.
If possible, please disconnect from any Internet - Wired or Wireless. To
give it as safe as possible a try, restart your computer. Make sure no
Dropbox is running,, that is, check the SysTray, and the Task Manager.
Now try getting to your local folder, and see if it is possible. If so,
do your copying and reorganizing as you desire. When done, reconnect to
the internet, and start Dropbox. It supposedly should now realize there
has been some changes in the local folder, and synchronize with the
online version of the service.

Again, I did work with Dropbox somethng like two days ago, and had no
problems in approaching my local folder - doing what I wanted like in
any other folder on my computer - and then  let the Dropbox software
synchronize with the online service.

In general, I am considering leaving Dropbox altogether. Among other
things, I hate that it insist on running a service it names "camera
upload", every time I insert a new memory stick or card into my
computer. To have it stop doing so, you will have to accept it splashing
a file of its own, onto every single drive. Have found no way to turn
off all that self-acting stuff. And if now they have changed their
services, that they no longer are accessible for screen reader users, I
am ready to give it all up. Smiles.

There used to be a Dropbox app for Window-Eyes. Don't know if it still
has any impact, or if it only would get in your way. But it might be one
way to go. Not even sure, exactly what that app did. A couple of days
ago, I uploaded a zip archive of the WE apps I had drawn from App
Central, and I know the Dropbox app was in that archive as well. So you
could get it from there, if you want to give it a try. Doubtfully,
though, it will solve much of your trouble; but I thought to mention it.
In case you have it already installed, may it be of any use to try
turning it off in the WE control panel?

Hi Tom,

Many thanks for the information. I just tried it and when I press enter on
drop box in the system tray it is very different than before. There isn't
any preferrences or general or combo box. I had to use the numpad and it
gave me a list at the top. The first four were related to drop box. I then
found windows explorer and selected it. The files and folders were exactly
where they should be. The down side is that After closing the drop box
folder and opening it again. It had reverted to the no window or list. That
means it has to be done every time. It is a work around with some extra
steps.

I'll try in the morning and maybe a guy in a red suit and a white beard has
worked on repairing it during the night. Not so sure about the Elves

Hi John,
Good news! It has nothing to do with Windows 7. It's just that the new app
is set to run by default. Here's what you have to do to set it back to open
your Dropbox folders in Windows Explorer.
Go to the Dropbox button in the system tray and press Enter. This should
open the context menu.
Arrow up to Preferences and press Enter.
You should come in on the General tab. Tab down until you come to the "Open
folders in" combo-box. It will be set to Dropbox desktop app.
Alt+Down arrow to expand the combo-box.
Now up arrow to Explorer and press enter to select it.
Tab down to the OK button and press enter.
You should be as good as new.

Hi John,
I'm on Windows 10. But I can't imagine why the menu would be different
for different versions of Windows. It's the same thing I've always had.
There's just some new options. It was always the only way I know of to
get to the preferences. And I just did it again. However, truth be told,
the first time I did it was with NVDA. But I just did it with
Window-Eyes. When the menu opened I just pressed P until I got to
preferences. But it doesn't matter because the preferences window was
inaccessible with Window-Eyes. So if you have NVDA it should work. You
could also try it with JAWS if you have it, or Narrator. I was able to
access it with Narrator, but of course it's a whole new screen reader in
Windows 10.

But fear not! Here's a solution if all else fails.
Go to your Dropbox folder.
Make sure you're on the main Dropbox folder, not a sub-folder.
Press the Applications key to open the context menu.
Go to the Send to pull down and send a shortcut to your desktop.

Tom

David, I think I turned off that camera upload by
tabbing and hitting a checkbox.

At 04:54 PM 10/4/2019, David via Talk, wrote:

Subject: Here Is An Archive Of WE Apps

For those who are interested, I have uploaded an archive of WE apps.
This was drawn from the App Central, shortly before the screen reader
was discontinued. Hence, I guess it holds pretty much the newest version
of the apps. I even have included the very most up-to-date version of
the extended Dictionary.

This archive holds about 270 apps. A few apps - which were released, but
which I never wanted - has been removed. Still, it should fathom quite
much of the apps ever released for the screen reader.

Please, as I will only keep it there for a short while, make sure to
download while it still is available. After downloading, you will have a
zipped archive, holding all the WEPM installers for the individaul apps.

Below, you will find the links. One starts the download directly, the
other require certain user interaction.
