RE: camera for knfb reader

2017-11-28 Thread Andre via Talk
Has knfb reader changed? I thought it was a software program for your
computer or an app for your smart phone which would already have a built-in
camera.

How would this be able to be used with the ziggi cam or this thing called
the hover cam?

Are there better cameras than these that would give you even better results?

Just make sure it is an 8mp camera. That will give you good results.

Hello, I just downloaded the knfb reader. Now I am looking for
recommendations for a camera to use with it. Is there much difference
between the ziggi cam and the hover cam, and what about the price? I
hear one cost about 400 and the other about 100. Is the difference in
cost worth it? And where can I buy one? All suggestions are appreciated.

NVDA and Touch Screens

2017-11-16 Thread Andre via Talk
I was wondering about NVDA and touch screens. I have to help my son access
ABC Mouse on a pc running Windows 10 (fall creators). It seems like
something has changed. Maybe not though. Basically my question is:

Is it possible to keep NVDA running (for me) and still allow him to just use
the regular touch screen gestures? For instance, when I have him on YouTube
and I'm running NVDA so I can choose what I want him to watch, he can't just
tap on play/pause and have it play or pause the video. I have to completely
quit NVDA. After doing a Google search, I tried the sleep mode, but that
didn't seem to work either. So are there any addons I can get to negate the
nvda touch gestures, etc.?

Hopefully you understand what I'm asking. If not, please let me know. By the
way, I'm no NVDA expert either. I know he can just touch the screen when I'm
running Window-Eyes, but my browse mode feature disappeared and that was WE
9.5.4. I'm trying NVDA 2017.3. I think that's what it's called. So is there
a way to keep NVDA running and turn off its touch support? I figure if I can
do that, then that will kind of simulate Window-Eyes' browse mode.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi Everyone:

My move from Windows to Android has been a bit slower than anticipated. In
the meantime, however, there's an app I am about to purchase for business
use.

I installed a demo copy of the app and, using Window-Eyes, all I could hear
is: "Custom Control, Custom Control" and nothing else!

I would appreciate help from anyone in the house that has more knowledge on
how to deal with this this sort of thing and advice. I am willing to send a
zipped copy of the demo app to anyone who can take a hard look for me.

BTW, I know that a "custom control" can be reclassified; I just don't know
what to reclassify it to and that's why I need some help!

I am also searching for a comparable app in Android land that I can use, but
thus far, no luck yet. I look forward to reading your thoughts, and, if you
prefer, you can write me privately. Much thanks, all the very best!

Sincerely,
Olusegun

Just getting to my email after an emergency.

I think that's a great idea Rod. It's a shame VFO claimed to support the
product at least through the website and list, and already they are
dropkicking us users. No real surprise there. We have to keep things in our
hands as much as possible.

I am trying to get a handle on who is still interested in receiving support

RE: contacting Doug.

2017-08-22 Thread Andre via Talk
I know this may sound crazy, but I still feel hurt by the loss of WE. I do
think this may have been AI Squared's intent all along. I'm sure GW knew it was
a possibility once they gave up total control of WE and sold the company to AI
Squared, but felt they didn't have much of a choice any longer than to take
that risk.

That is my thinking. There was going to be rewritten braille support. GW knew

I too was hopeful the AI Squared merge would be good for Window-eyes.
but, the merge was lopsided and seems more like a sale as GW had no more
control.

I always thought AI Squared was directed by VFO to bring them Window-eyes as
VFO didn't absorb AI Squared until after W-e was acquired. Maybe AI Squared was
also in bad shape financially and felt selling out to VFO was in their best
interest.

It is possible doug, Dan and Aaron were offered positions at VFO but refused
them. Perhaps this was the same for other GW employees too.
Perhaps not.

True, technology changes, and products/programs get discontinued, but for me
Window-eyes was more than just another program. I have heard the term VFO
Family" but VFO is not my family - GW Micro was and is and I'm still dealing
with the loss. some may not like these posts, but they are helping me deal
with the situation.

I should have written this post using jaws to help me practice - oh well
- I'll
  move on eventually.

As someone who used GW Micro products from the very beginning, at least
since in 1990, I miss WE already. It's a shame. Seems like perhaps Doug and
Dan were deceived by AI Squared. Just my opinion. Could be completely wrong.
It's appalling that Doug didn't have any say on whether AI Squared merged or
was bought out by VFO. That left us to be devoured by the shark. Anyway, I
just wanted to express that.

What's the NVDA list? How and where do I subscribe? I need help with that

I have been a member of this list for many many years and have received lots
of help over those years. Sadly I have moved away from Window Eyes and am
now using NVDA as well as the free transfer to Jaws. Thanks to Doug for
getting us WE users that free Jaws as I would have never paid for Jaws.
Having made the switch I know that WE has been the best screen reader for me
and it is a dam shame that Doug and crew couldn't have done a better job of
promoting their product so they could have beaten Jaws. Thanks to all that
have put up with me. I am now unsubscribing from the list and hope to see
many of you on the NVDA and Jaws lists.

Hey, you're not the only one. I still use Window-Eyes. I use it on Win 10. I
think it's still better than jaws even though it hasn't been developed in

started using windows 10 and still use window-eyes. I presume most everyone

has moved to the vfo list, so, could you send me the address of the jaws
list? There may be questions I need to ask regarding windows 10. Sure
would appreciate it.

Hi Ted,

To be clear, then, as Vic replied, use the Insert-arrows to navigate tables.
This is because there Is no need to go out of and into table mode in the
newest versions of Window-Eyes.
Yet, there is still the ability to navigate to them and within them.
Keep in mind, however, that for tables within Adobe Acrobat Reader, you must

still go into and out of tables, while internal navigation is identical.

Rod

Since table mode is gone from window-eyes, how do I read this table so that

Thanks for your help. Regards: Ted Larson

Hi,

Oh my goodness Roflol, lmao! This has got to be one of the greatest wakeup
messages I've ever seen! Hilarious! I haven't written in quite some time
primarily because when freedom scientific purchased AI squared, I could see
the writing on the wall. I certainly will miss working with window eyes and
will probably still love it because it gave me something no screen reader
ever did, a career.

In July of last year I started working with NVDA and am contributing as much
of my window eyes knowledge to new users that are making the transition from
Window Eyes to NVDA. I personally would like to invite anyone in this
community to join me and my friends of the NVDA community and help us with
our mission to be the best screen reader not just for a few of us but all of
us users of adaptive technology. Another one of my colleagues has put it
best. His post follows my signature.
Tony

Many of you may have heard about the end of sales for Window-Eyes screen
reader. In the early 2000's, Window-Eyes was considered a good alternative
to JAWS for Windows when it came to using Microsoft Windows with screen
readers. With the acquisition of GW Micro by AI Squared, which in turn was
acquired by VFO last year, many analysts predicted the end of life for this
screen reader, which occurred on May 15, 2017.
This news has huge implications for the global NVDA community, as well as
opening opportunities for us. As many Window-Eyes users are eligible to
upgrade to JAWS 18, some would choose to switch to NVDA. At the moment
several individuals are producing tutorials aimed at helping Window-Eyes
users transition to NVDA with ease. But users aren't the only members of the
Window-Eyes community: with the end of sales for Window-Eyes, many scripts
(or apps) for Window-Eyes became unsupported, and it won't be matter of time
before they become part of history.
In hopes of inviting Window-Eyes users and developers to join the NVDA
ecosystem (provided they are willing), I'd like to propose a community-wide
initiative under the umbrella of Project Contact Lenses. Although this
project may take different forms, the overall aim is to educate Window-Eyes
community that NVDA is a viable option for many people, and a chance for
writers of Window-Eyes apps to port their code to the add-ons
infrastructure. Other activities may include equipping some Window-Eyes app
developers to contribute code to NVDA Core, producing promotional materials,
organizing online seminars and so on. Although the bulk of this project is
aimed at Window-Eyes users, the ultimate goal is to embrace users of other
screen readers to taste NVDA.
Some of the activities I plan to do include:
. An online seminar or an intensive lab on creating add-ons and/or getting
started with contributing code to NVDA Core.
. Talking to Window-Eyes app writers about possibility of open-sourcing
their code and helping them port apps to the add-ons infrastructure.
Some of the things the global community can do include:
. Producing transition materials.
. Contacting Window-Eyes distributors in your local community and inviting
them to try NVDA.
. Contacting script writers regarding apps and proposing add-ons.
. Holding seminars aimed at users of other screen readers 9mostly
Window-Eyes users) on how to master various NVDA concepts such as object
navigation, browse mode and others.
As for the duration of this initiative, I don't know, but I expect this to
be at least several months or more.
Comments are appreciated.
Cheers,
Joseph

Eloquence pitch in jaws?

2017-05-25 Thread Andre via Talk
I really don't like the default pitch for the Jaws eloquence. Is it possible
to change this? I know with Window-eyes I could, but for some reason I
haven't found how to do it in Jaws. I found something that says the pitch
for uppercase where you can input a percent. I haven't found anything else.

Along the same lines are there hot keys to rotor through the screen,
keyboard, mouse, virtual cursor settings. In Window-Eyes it was
control-Alt-arrows etc. Still trying to get used to things. I just activated
my copy today.

Much thanks,

Andre

I presume that it is because Window-eyes was purchased with the intention of
eliminating a competitor so they are unlikely to release a source code for
others to develop Window-eyes.

I'm really sorry and a bit fed-up too that Window-eyes is to be discontinued
but can see it is a business decision - no different than other take-overs.

Migration of Features?

2017-05-15 Thread Andre via Talk
Have any Window-Eyes features been implemented into Jaws like its various
scripting languages flexibility? If not, is that something on the table? How
about other Window-Eyes features? To me, it's great if you have a current
retail copy of WE, but I think VFO could have gone even farther and should
in making the Window-Eyes customers feel more like giving JAWS a try. I
think most of us feel like strangers to JAWS and that would go along way in
feeling at home with JAWS assuming they want to keep the customer database
as satisfied customers. Afterall, Window-Eyes already has a Jaws keyboard
layout. How difficult is it for VFO to have created a Window-Eyes keyboard
layout which would make learning Jaws and getting up to speed with it a
whole lpot easier?

I don't think a company should be too arogant just because they appear to be
the only game in town. Upstart companies arrive on the seen everyday and
take the game to a whole new level.

Just my opinions!

nearly 14 years, and really enjoyed using it. But I've decided to bow
to the inevitable and use Jaws, especially since employers are going to
be using it, and will not consider NVDA. I don't blame the staff

Who really knows. It's pretty pathetic that we as long time faithful users

Hello all,

I am back after an extended absence from this list. Sorry to come back with

At work I am trying to get my employer to upgrade me to the latest version.
That's not really the issue right now. The SMA is the issue though and I

What is the status of Window-Eyes? If it were to go away, what is the plan
for those of us who use it? Is it even worth getting an SMA right now?

Answers would be greatly appreciated.

RE: choosing from a list

2017-05-02 Thread Andre via Talk
Yes. That's how you can do it. Space on the first item you want to select.
Then hit the control key and the up/down arrow keys until you get the the
next item you want. When you're on that item, hit the space key while
holding down the control key. Do this for everything you want to choose. You
should then be able to use the control-shift-M hotkey to see the items you
have selected.

RE: Where are the informed comentators?

2017-02-23 Thread Andre via Talk
I haven't said too much, but as someone who's been a customer of GW Micro
since 1990, my college days, I feel I should also be able to weigh in.
Simply I don't believe VFO cares about us Window-Eyes users whatsoever.
Therefore, unless the deal they might invent better work for me. Otherwise
they won't get my business as it shold be for all of us. We vote with our
wallets as do oher consumers. Obviously they could care less what we think.
Terrible PR is begotten by a lack of compassion or concern. You don't get
rid of 99% of the staff who helped make the product great and expect to
continue that great product line. That's the height of errogance or
stupidity, and that's how you destroy your competition. You create a
situation such that there is no competition. Gw Micro merged with AISquared
who then really sold out to be gobbled up by VFO. It makes me sad. No doubt
Doug knows exactly what's going on and what the plan is for Window-Eyes, but
unfortunately he isn't an independent business owner any more. He now works
for VFO and must abide by VFO policies. I don't fault Doug though for making
what he felt was his best business decision. There are great reasons most of
us on this list stuck with Window-Eyes rather than to migrate to JAWS. But
why list them when they would fall on deaf ears - ears that don't care to
listen.

In this case, we can't vote at the polls since we have no vote that would
count at that table. We must vote with our wallets. Vote with our voices on
blogs. Vote simply by not supporting (if possible) any future products
produced by VFO. That may not be as possible as I would like since they have
eliminated much of the competition thereby destroying much of the consumer's
choice. This country through its laws was supposed to support especially
minority groups being oppressed (and oppressed isn't even as strong a word
than the one I wanted to use). But anyway does any one really feel supported
by AISquared which really know doesn't exist now? It's all VFO. A real
merger would allow for the existence of AISquared, but it seems to be
apparent to me that this was nothing other than a complete buyout. Hopefully
there will be true alternatives to JAWS. I know NVDA is out there, Narrator
and Voiceover for the Mac. But Narrator and NVDA would really have to come
up a lot to even get anywhere close to where Window-Eyes was. We'll have to
lend some support to the NVDA developers via donations. We all have to make
our own business decisions and what works best for each of us. There isn't
another company like GW Micro was.

I debated whether or not to weigh in on this, but as someone who has
literally grown up with window-eyes, I got my first computer in 1997 at age
10 with WE 2.0 on floppy discs, I felt that 20 years of using this reader
day in and day out warranted some sort of response.

First, a recent story. I had a video driver issue with WE and the latest
build. I couldn't fix it. I did everything to tech support person said that
they would do. He remoted into the machine, no luck. I reformatted the hard
drive, which I had planned to do at some oint to clean things up, and the
driver issue is fixed, knock on wood. I bring all of this up because I said,
point blank, "I have had this issue before and Aaron or Steve sat down with
me and we figured it out." The support person's response was, "those guys
aren't here anymore, so ..."
So, it sounds like they have laid off the programmers and devs of
window-eyes, holding onto the most basic personelle to answer the most basic
of questions. Mine was a big curve ball, at least that's the way it felt.

So, we'll see, I intend to hold on until the last because I cannot afford
JFW, my Voc Rehab case is closed, and not sure about learning a new screen
reader. Or then there's NVDA, free, but confusing for me. Maybe it's easier
than I think it is to learn the structure.
All for now, just my quick thoughts.
Thanks, Dave

I now have a windows 8 machine (used) and am wondering if you still offer,

I have the original copy of my 7.5 window eyes cd,and the update file from
the gwmicro.com website before AI squared purchased gwmicro, but am
wondering if there is a way to obtain an installation cd from your archives,
or if you all deleted the older version of window eyes from your archive

Thank you

Hi,

As far as I am aware aisquared are no longer selling s m a's. In an email
from someone at aisquared a few months ago. The person sending the email to
asquared asked if s m a's could be purchased and how much they were. The
aisquared person stated that the cost of an upgrade was $49 but did not
mention s m a's. Leading me to believe then that window-eyes was not safe at
that point.

I keep a very slight hope that window-eyes will survive but all the signs
say it won't. A good Company with a good Public Relations office would have
kept window-eyes customers up to date with internal events in VFO. Sadly
this company hasn't, neither has aisquared. It is the lack of information
that is the problem. Taking into account dealers being informed that
window-eyes and related products will no longer be on offer after December
the first is extremely worrying. Add up all the negatives one does get an
idea window-eyes will be discontinued. As there are absolutely no positives.
What else are window-eyes customers to conclude. All down to both VFO and
Asquared for not keeping us up to date. As window-eyes customers we have the
right to be informed about the product we have loyally supported for over
two decades.

Live long and prosper, John

Microsoft Account? WE not reading clickable link!

2016-08-24 Thread Andre via Talk
I just created an ms account at account.microsoft.com. I couldn't figure out
how to log out, so I resorted to NVDA. It read the clickable link just below
the support link that led me to a place where I could log out at. Using WE
9.5.1, vista32, and FF 47.x (latest edition). Are there any WE settings I
can check to get this to read since it's my primary screen reader?

Much thanks,

Any tips for doing a clean install of windows 10?

2016-08-13 Thread Andre via Talk
My computer is an acer which came with some programs preinstalled. I'd like
to be able to possibly reinstall some of them. How would I go about doing
this if I do a clean install of windows 10?

Also are there any tips for how to do a clean install like how many times
might the computer reboot before I can use narrator to finish the setup?

Do I need a Microsoft account to do a clean install or to finish the setup?

Any other tips?

Much thanks,

It saddens me that there are so many people, especially here in the UK, who
don't know about Window-eyes' existence.

I have used this screenreader right from the start, in fact when it was
called Vocal-eyes and used to provide access to DOS - this must be providing
some clues to my age!

But I've never regretted my choice.

9.5.1 installation problem for vista32

2016-07-30 Thread Andre via Talk
I tried both installing by downloading the upgrade file, and by just
installing from the help update link. I still get the same errors. It says,
from what I can figure out with NVDa which I'm not too familiar with, bad
image c:\windows\system32 gwm hook.dll is either not designed to run on
windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again or using
the original installation media or trying contacting your system
administrator or software vendor for support.

For some reason, this same error comes up every time I launch a program or
application. I remember reading about the .sha and I checked my system for
the necessary file. It seems like that file was installed 3 years ago when I
check my view update history.

What can I do. I was doing this upgrade from version 9.4. Do you think I
need a zipped file of the whole WE 9.5.1 program rather than just the
upgrade file. My 9.4 installed perfectly from the zip file I received from
support.

Thanks for your suggestions and your help,

RE: i guess i installed too soon

2016-07-27 Thread Andre via Talk
I also got a bunch of errors, .dll errors saying something about this
version of windows. Even launching nvda was a problem, but got it done. It
seems like every .exe program or whatever couldn't really start without some
error coming up, even with something like the google updater. I had to
eventually get loggedin to my pc and use system restore.

So I'll probably wait and just download the actual program file rather than
just automatically installing from the WE 9.5.1 prompt when WE first
launches.

RE: router suggestions

2016-07-20 Thread Andre via Talk
I think you should test it also downstairs with your iphone. Wi-fi signals,
the walls, pipes, etc. could be enterfering with the type of signal you're
receiving upstairs. So before tossing your lynksis, if you haven't already
done so, then make sure to do the speed test with your iphone closest to the
router.
I've experienced the same thing as well.

Chip Orange's HotWind app might work for you.

Subject: like jaws insert-f10?

Hi all! There is one command in JFW which I find extremely valuable here in
windows ten, and that is the "jaws key, f10" command which gives the list of
windows showing, but often, in windows ten, there are hidden windows by
which cannot be reached easily by hitting alt-tab too and from. :) Is there
a script which is available which can be downloaded which simulates or
perhaps does better this "listing of the windows" command and then gives the
ability to "close" them?
I've found things which are behind the "alt-tab" windows which seem to make
my computer more "snappy" if I close them using that jaws key f10 window
list.

Hello Andre,

How do I do Research? Good question.

And do I get paid for doing it? I wish.

It started out with me because I am a Curious guy. Plus I never take No for
an Answer, especially if I smell there is more to the story than what I have
been told.

My work is more Theological, but I do look into subjects that are not
strictly Theological. Currently I am collecting info about Near Death
Experiences, known as NDE's.

Starting out with a basic curiosity, what are they, what are the accounts of
those who have had them. Are there similarities. Are there similarities
across Race, and Cultural lines? Do those from other Countries, where there
are other Religions have the same experiences as those from other Nations
that lean more towards Christianity?

What about those who have an NDE that are not Religious at all? Are there
any similarities.

Andre, I then may try to find someone who has had an NDE so I may ask them
questions of my own.

I may find such a person, or several people that have had NDE experiences on
a Web Site where the Web site is dedicated to keeping track of and reporting
and recording testimonies of those who have had an NDE.

When I find such a place, and there are such places, I may contact someone
and ask them if they would be willing to talk with me by phone.

This is a project I am working on right now.I am still not sure just how
far I will take it. I seem to be hearing many of the same kinds of reports
but not much new when it comes to new information.Even those that had
have such NDE experiences often have no idea where they were, or why they
experienced what they experienced. One common outcome for many of these
people is they no longer fear death. Even those who were Non-religious
seem to have little fear of the life after this one.

Another subject I started out with because of curiosity was investigating
something a Bible verse said.

Something I researched a little before this was that in the Bible, it states
that the World will be Blessed through the Jews.

I have noticed that Jews have been a Target for several thousand years,
dating all the way back to Abraham, Isaac and Ishmael.Since then, there
have been constant friction between the Jews and the rest of the world,
especially those nations that are bordering the land that would become
Israel.

I am not Jewish myself, but I have wondered why there is such Hatred towards
a population of people that number only about 20 Million worldwide.

Going on the verse that said the World would be Blessed through the Jews, I
started, and accidentally stumbled on a piece that someone else had written.
I took from it what info it would give me, which was a list of a few medical
breakthrough discovered by Jewish doctors and researchers.

I checked out the Nobel Peace Prizes and found that through about 2005, as
many as 130 Men and women of Jewish ancestry had won the Peace Prize for
their work in every category the Peace Prize covers.

Along with the verse that expresses the World would be Bless through the
Jews, it also states that any who fight against the Jews will be cursed.

The Muslims have fought the Jews since about the 7th Century, and since the
Nobel Peace Prize has been given, only about 7 Muslims have won it, and most
of those for something they have written. For instance yaser Arafat and
President Obama have both won the Nobel Peace prize. Both for writing about
Peace. Although, I will leave it to you whether or not either of these men
were truly Peaceful. Certainly Yaser Arafat was no Peace lover,
especially towards the Jews.

So this little Report was started out by my reading a verse that caught my
attention, and it built from there.

Surprisingly, there indeed has been a Ton of stuff that has come from those
who are Jewish, that any would think of as a blessing. I mean the list is
overwhelmingly long.

As for making money at doing this-

I have a good friend that keeps telling me I should sell my services. The
problem is that I am incredibly slow.

If I land on a new Web site, I might be able to make sense of it within 45
minutes, or after stumbling around for a couple of hours, I still may not be
able to do much with the site.

Before I acquired this current old/new machine, I was having massive
problems doing much on line. Since WE 9 came along, I have had nightmare
issues with it. That is until a few weeks ago when this new system came
along.

I still have troubles on many web sites. But since I am not working for
anyone but myself and a few friends, I do not worry too much about those Web
Sites I cannot get to. I go with what info I can find and leave it at that.
If I were to sell my

Larry,

That's how I upgraded the computers around here. I used the media
creation tool which is available from Microsoft. I deleted the file
after upgrading all of the computers, but just search for it on the
Microsoft.com site. I didn't download the Windows 10 installation file
on a flash drive, just put the creation tool file on a flash drive and
let each computer download its own copy of the installation file, it
didn't take that long, only about an hour or so to download the file.

Screen capturing?

2016-02-29 Thread Andre via Talk
Hi, I want to mainly be able to take a picture of the screen, especially
when I'm having some troubles on the web with a website. How would I go
about doing this? I think when I go to a website, I would like to be able to
get some sighted assistance on its layout, images etc.

Also is it possible to isolate a certain part of a website like the optin
boxes or forms and just capture that so I can email a picture to someone for
help? I wouldn't want to show my desktop or anything like that, just the
website or a small part of a website.

Is there any software that would do this?

Thanks a lot for your help.

RE: preferred anti-virus programs for win 10

2016-01-16 Thread Andre via Talk
I understand the need for security, but the need for accessibility is
equally important. If the software offers the most security but is only
accessible by sighted users, and we don't have any sighted assistance, how
good really is that software for us? If we can't work it, we may be locked
out of our computers for various reasons with no sighted assistance. So
really accessibility and security should go hand in hand. The most secure
software needs to be also made accessible.

hi,
still the question, what can I do to make the images recognized that are
not processed in my pdf files?
Yes, as suggested I did now open via the vv itself - but the two files,
that where scanned with my scanner still say: "no text found" but there
is text and all other ocr applications I ever tried could process them.

Any settings I can change ?
Hope there are some hints I can try.

Hi list

A sighted friend of mine who is in the business of computers is lending me a
computer he had which has Windows seven and Microsoft Outlook 2010 using the
trial version of WE. Got it a few hours ago hoping to acquire it once I know
Windows seven well enough and one of the things I asked him is if he
installed Adobe for me to test. He said he uses Foxit reader to read PDF,
anybody tried this with Window-Eyes and if so, how does it compare to Adobe
in terms of Window-Eyes being able to read PDF with it, I presume it would
still not make a difference to WE if the PDF has images and the document
would seem empty?

Have you tried alt+down arrow? Then while on the selection, of your choice,
hit enter. You can also try whil on the selection of your choice, routing
the mouse to hit and left clicking right there. Amazon is a crazy site for

I've just recently noticed a problem - I am unable to open and read
selections in combo boxes on amazon.com and a couple of other sites which I
can't remember now.

I've tried using right arrow; I've tried using the alt-enter keys. I can
arrow down and tab away and back to hear the selection, but, for some
reason, my choices don't take.

What's going on? What, if anything, am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

I had no idea about this port forwarding even when talking to WE tech
support. It just wasn't working on my Vista machine when trying to get
assistance with tech support who was running on WE 7 or 8 at the time. This
was several months ago. I was using WE 9 and still, it wasn't working.

So I agree. Let's update and get remote assistance working for all platforms
that WE says it supports.

Thanks,

Perhaps for that reason, I couldn't get assistance even from WE tech

Hi all

Ok I will jump in here and say Remote Assistance needs to be much easier to
use without the hassle of forwarding ports at both ends. When Remote
Assistance was introduced in Window-Eyes 7.5, it was very easy to use. Now,
thanks to a later update to the 7.5 series which updated Remote Assistance,
it is not so. Some clients would not have a clue about port forwarding.

Thanks for reading.

reliable ocr feature for IE and FF that's not dependent on a third party
tool. Any time our work productivity depends on a third party rather than
remaining mostly in our own control, that hampers our own work performance.

I'd like notification when a web page has been updated. So based on in page
links or some part of a form that requires user input, after that data has
been entered, I'd like verbal notification of what has changed on that web
page. Right now, it seems like we have to scroll back up the page to find
out what if anything has changed.

Thanks for listening.

Hello Jeremy:

The top three things I would like to see in Window-Eyes are:
1. An OCR feature, where you could scan and recognize unknown graphical
images. Sometimes, there are items on the screen which are labeled with
images. At least one other screen reader has this kind of a capability.
Sometimes, you need to be able to find and click on these things.
2. Something that will allow someone using Window-Eyes to work with
TeamViewer and other remote support type programs, so that a Window-Eyes
user can remotely help someone. This would help people who are blind to be
able to work providing technical support.
3. For Window-Eyes to work with applications like GoToMeeting and Webex.
These are applications being used more and more in business, but to my
knowledge, no screen reader works with them. Both sides of these kinds of
apps need to be accessible, whetherr you are setting up a meeting or
participating in a meeting.

Hi Sue,

It will work with the Trekker Breeze only if it will act as a standard GPS
supplying GPS data over a cable or a bluetooth connection. This is called
NMEA data when a GPS supplies GPS info to some other device.

If you buy a GPS meant for a notebook/laptop, they only cost around $50 or
so; you can get them to use USB or bluetooth connections (this is all
documented in my app's documentation). What you buy for your laptop is
called a GPS mouse, and it has no screen; it's a thing about the size of a
matchbox, and has better accuracy than say the GPS built into a cell phone.

Even when you have a GPS, you still need an internet connection (right now
anyway) to really have it be useful to my app; so you'll need either a wifi
connection, or a mobile hotspot for your cell phone, so you can get all the
mapping data from Google.

I started out working on the GPS capabilities, and all the beta test users
asked me to work on desktop capabilities first, saying not too many people
would actually take a laptop around with them. If that's wrong, and I hear
a lot from people with laptops and GPS and internet connections, then I'll
go back to working on those capabilities (such as having it be able to guide
you to a destination with turn-by-turn instructions, and telling you what's
around you as you get near to places). They do make ultra light notebooks
now which are small enough that someone could carry it in a bag or backpack,
or use it while on transit. So, it's still an idea, but I am definitely
still asking people what they would use it for, and like it to do.

I am not working on making it a paid product by the way, I plan for it to
always be a free app, no matter how large (right now I think it's the
largest app available for Window-Eyes, at around 25 thousand lines of
VBScript).

I really do need to find time to make some tutorials though; people don't
seem to get the ideas as to what it can do. If anyone is using it and feels
like they understand it, please do share on these mailing lists with others
as to how you use it and how to do various things; that would help me out a
lot.

Enjoy,

Chip

 Until then, here's one example of a day out you might plan with the app;
I've contrived it to show off most of the Google related features, but not
the GPS or the points of interest.
Unfortunately, these lists have a severe size restriction on message text,
so I had to put the html text of the example into its own page on my
dropbox, and then place a link to it here in the message body; just click on
it and you'll be immediately reading the tutorial text. Enjoy:

Windows 8.1 laptop. What software should I absolutely get?

2015-05-12 Thread Andre via Talk
I wanted to start a new thread. So for my new laptop, what
software is more of an absolute? Which free software do you recommend to
protect my pc, registry cleaner, against malware, etc.

I'm going to have to give up my office 2007 I believe and I don't think it
has much as far as a word processor. So does WE work with open office?

How about software for backup and restore purposes so I can just go back and
recover to the point after I have Window Eyes installed along with the other
recommended software?

Much thanks,

Andre

Should I remove trial versions of software? Also: what software shouldn't I

RE: amazon web site

2015-04-12 Thread Andre via Talk
You can try nvda, and/or firefox. I had this issue as well. Still do. So you
can login using WE and firefox and I think have it read the addresses as
buttons. Then you can finish your shopping in ie. It's kind of a crazy
workaround but hey we have to try all kinds of things. It's truly
unfortunate. So you'd be logged in with both browsers at the same time. Some
parts of the amazon site work better in ff and other parts in ie.That's been
my realization at least.

Hi, I can do lots of things on Amazon's page, and I use WE9.1 and IE

that I do not want to send to my on-file AmazonPrime address. There's
a list of family members and others to whom I sometimes send gifts,
but I cannot get to that list -- either on the regular Amazon.com page

otherwise to be very useable with IOS and VO. Does anyone have
suggestions for getting to other addresses?

Thanks.

mousing and media buttons

2015-03-06 Thread Andre via Talk
Is there any possibility to add mouse support to chrome in the near future?
Plus I'd like to know what settings to activate in WE 9.1 for all browsers
(ie, ff, and chrome) so I can identify flash buttons or other play type
buttons? On too many pages, there are audios or videos I wouldn't even know
about if I I wasn't told was supposed to be there.

So far from what I can tell, the new browse mode or nonstatic buffer has a
disadvantage of not knowing when I should exit browse mode to try and tab to
the audio or video. Hopefully what I'm saying makes some sense.

Thanks,

Andre
