Re: drop down menus

2017-06-05 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
You can also try pressing Enter on these words. If they're done right
you should hear Customer service on click. But sometimes they're
functionally identical but not properly coded. So you won't hear on click.
I've done this many times and links to the sub-categories appear below
the main item. Sometimes I down arrow too soon and there's nothing
there. So I've learned to press Enter, wait a few seconds, and then
arrow down.
And if you're in IE you can also try routing the mouse and clicking on
them. Sometimes this works when Enter doesn't.

Hth,
Tom

Hi everyone,

Still using WE 9.5.4 and have a question.

My bank, which is US Bank has been doing updates to their website and it is
causing me problems.

At the beginning there are items like customer service, products and
services and items like that.

According to my sighted husband he tells me when I am on one of these items
a menu drops down showing the options for what I am on.

Can anyone tell me how to read this drop down menu?

I know there is a way but to be perfectly honest I am not a continuous user
of the computer like most people so I do not have any idea even how to go
about getting these drop down menus to read.

Thanks in advance, Dave

Chase Bank "modernized" their website over a year ago.  I'm guessing that it's
suitable for mobile phone users.phone

I asked if they could modify the display noting the presence of a screen reader
in the background and switch over to the previous (Classic?) display.  They
actually did it!

most of these sites are useing ribbons and require the use of the mouse.

RE: Menus

2016-06-20 Thread Naomi Knudsen via Talk
I have checked that all apps are updated, and I have reinstalled WE 9.4.0.0,. I
have looked for diagnostics or repairing Windows video driver under apps, but
even with sighted help, I could not find these.

I am still having the problem that WE will not read the menus even though my
sighted husband tells me that they are clearly there.

If I can not work out this problem, I will be forced to go to another screen
reader.

Is there anyone willing to help?

Blessings,
Naomi in Michigan

go to apps/diagnostics/repair windows 10 display driver and
see if that helps.

Regretfully, I don't have this setup available to test. But, you should
definitely check to make sure that the correct Office set files are installed
and loaded when using Word (e.g. Office 2010). Maybe others on this list are
using Word 2010 on Windows 10 and can let you know if they are having the same
issue. But, I suspect that the combination of Office 2010 and Windows 10 is not
very common and not heavily tested.
Best,

I am using Office 2010, Windows10 and WE 9.4.

With Windows7 in a Word document, I could press the alt key then tab across to
?font" and "font size?. From either of those tabs, I could arrow up and down to
choose a font or a font size.

Now, after upgrading to Windows10 and WE 9.4, when I follow these steps, when I
try to arrow up and down to choose a different font or font size, WE just says
?blank? repeatedly.

RE: Menus

2016-06-13 Thread Rebecca Lineberger via Talk
I have Word 2010, Windows 10 and Window-Eyes 9.4.
I can press alt for the home tab and then tab to font. I can then arrow down
through a list of fonts, or I can tab to size, and again, arrow through a list
of sizes. I can also just type what I want in the edit boxes.
Instead of using the menu, I press control-d for font. I can tab to size from
there, but the quickest way to increase size is to press control-greater than
to increase it and control-less than to decrease it. The default size is 11
points, but after that it skips to an even number and goes up or down by 2
points.
My apps are all current and the set file is current for Word 2010.
Also, the display driver for Windows 10 has been repaired.
HTH.

go to apps/diagnostics/repair windows 10 display driver and see if that helps.

Naomi,
Are you using the Ribbon or Font dialogue to make these adjustments? What
version of Word? Can you list the exact steps you are using when the problem
occurs?

Marc

RE: Menus

2016-06-13 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
Regretfully, I don't have this setup available to test. But, you should
definitely check to make sure that the correct Office set files are installed
and loaded when using Word (e.g. Office 2010). Maybe others on this list are
using Word 2010 on Windows 10 and can let you know if they are having the same
issue. But, I suspect that the combination of Office 2010 and Windows 10 is not
very common and not heavily tested.
Best,
Marc

I am using Office 2010, Windows10 and WE 9.4.

With Windows7 in a Word document, I could press the alt key then tab across to
“font" and "font size”. From either of those tabs, I could arrow up and down to
choose a font or a font size.

Now, after upgrading to Windows10 and WE 9.4, when I follow these steps, when I
try to arrow up and down to choose a different font or font size, WE just says
“blank” repeatedly.

Subject: How do you use pull down menus in IE

OK, I just paid another visit to MS Community, and when trying to reply,
(haven't been at all successful with it yet), I keep running into pull
down menus, and can't for the life of me understand what they mean on a
Web page. I used to know what to do with a pull down menu, that is,
right arrow, or just press enter, but apparently, not anymore. Could
someone please help?

Also, can someone connect me with an audio tutorial on how to use IE 11
if there is in deed one available? OK, as close as you can get anyway
.

And Apparently, Epson Scan cannot find my scanners twain driver, because
it wants to send me to the Epson troubleshooting menu, and I just do not
know what applies here. If someone could help me off list with this one,
I would really appreciate the help. No point in cluttering up the list
with something that is clearly OT.

Thanks much,

Larry 11

RE: looking for any Tutorials on how to navigate Ribbon Menus in office 2010

2015-04-05 Thread Chip Orange via Talk
I talked with Cathy Anne Murtha, and anyone wishing to buy one of her text
books should contact her directly at ca...@blindtraining.com

You can see a list of her MS Office training text books (with audio
tutorials included), and which include e-books written especially for using
Window-Eyes, at:
http://www.blindtraining.com/shop/office.html

The one I purchased for using Word with Window-Eyes I thought was
excellently done. At the time, the price was around $75 a book; I don't
know what the price may be now.

Hth,

Chip

Hi Jim,

Here's an article on the A.I. Window-Eyes knowledgebase on understanding the
MS Office ribbon:
http://www.gwmicro.com/Support/Knowledge_Base/?kbnumber=GWKB1075

There were very good books available from Kathy Ann Murtha (under the name
of Access Technology Institute and Blind Training), but I will have to look
into how they are being sold these days if you are interested in purchasing
an e-book? They were the best.
