Re: My ctrl-alt shortcut combos are suddenly gone
Hey Rod, I'm pretty much the same as you when it comes to the placement of shortcuts, they are most always on the desktop. I access them both by letters or by placing punctuations as prefixes for the ones I use most often to accessed programs, or maybe a particular book or what ever. As for these troublesome ones, they were made by yours truly. I think I remember this happening before, but it has obviously been a long time, since I really can't say for sure . As for rehabbing them, it isn't really all that much trouble, just a PITA. The only reason I even bothered to put this one out to the list was because we had a brief suspension of our Internet service (oops), until my dear wife reupped with Comcast, and this just happened to happen either during or after service was restored. Since Windows 10 has been running so darn well over the past five months or so, and the update seems to run things a bit better and faster IMHO, I was kind of paranoid that my little technological world was beginning to fall apart. Not to mention that the day before yesterday, I was taking a look at and copying some files from various cds, and a couple of the cds that I put into the drive were of commercial origin from about 10 years ago, and at that time, some record companies took to putting cute little rootkits on their cds, both to prevent copying, as well as tracking the use of their products. So anyway, I don't know if those things are even effective on Windows 10 or not, but that kind of thing can be a bit unsettling. But so far, no other issues have become apparent. BTW, do you know of a product that might be able to detect such rootkits these days? I had a program called Rootkit Revealer that would detect such things, but the problem was that at the time Norton Utilities used the rootkit in their software, hopefully for non milevilant purposes, and there were I think literally hundreds detected, and those were never removed, but the cd ones were. Oh well, that was far more than I intended to say, so I will shut up and get on with the business of the day . Take care and have a great one, Larry On 8/16/2016 4:08 PM, Rod Hutton wrote: Hi Larry, I'm not sure where you specified the hot key, but, in my experience, they work most consistently if the icons you use to define the hot keys reside on the desktop. Hi Larry, I'm not sure where you specified the hot key, but, in my experience, they work most consistently if the icons you use to define the hot keys reside on the desktop. A slight correction, after pinning a program to your Taskbar, you can press Windows Key-1 through Windows Key-0 to launch or switch to it. RE: My ctrl-alt shortcut combos are suddenly gone
First start with items that are pinned that you don't want pinned such as edge, on my computer, edge is the first item. Arrow to it, press the applications key and select unpin from taskbar. If it is a program that is open that you don't want pinned , close it. Then open them one at a time and after they are open, pin them by pressing windows-t right arrow to it and hit the applications key and select pin to taskbar. Not sure if there is a way to move open programs around on the taskbar. The same with my Thunderbird keys ctrl-alt-e. All of my windows key shortcuts are working fine, it is just these personal combo keys that are giving me trouble. And yes, the ctrl-alt-w is working for Window-Eyes. I did try redefining one of the shortcuts, but to no avail. If anybody has any ideas they would certainly be appreciated. I just hope I don't have to do something so drastic as a Windows restore, but if that will work, guess I'll just have to bite one and do that. But hope we can find a more immediate and softer solution. RE: My ctrl-alt shortcut combos are suddenly gone
One could pin programs to the task bar in a specific order and then press alt-1 through alt-0 to launch or switch to them. To see the order of programs on your task bar, press windows-t and then right arrow through. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can go about getting mine back? I got up this morning and when I tried loading IE, with ctrl-alt-i, it didn't work.
