RE: Accessible application to play internet radio

2015-04-15 Thread Marisane Moruthanyana via Talk
Hi Chris

You are right.

That's what I tried to explain to Pamela.

Indeed, the application rocks.

By the way, are you aware whether tunein.com works like tapin radio, Chris?

I'll be glad to understand it better.

I see it being a web-based service unlike tapin radio.

Am I right?

Does it have stand-alone version, do you know?

I'll be glad if you could help.

Regards
Marisane

Because, Tap in Radio is it's own application. It's not web based. You
don't go to a web site to play the stations. It uses an API, and therefore
the app has it's own U I which you navigate. It's got a full menu bar, and
d everything like you'd expect a standard accessible application to have,
and it has its own executable install shield. Oh, and by the way, for those
who are so inclined to know, you even can run it as a portable installation
from a flash drive! Trust me, it freaking rocks!

Chris.

 Hi list subscribers

I'm using NVDA and jaws to access my computer.

I am totally Blind and love listening to internet radio stations.

Many of the radios I listen to use flash player to play.

As you might know, flash player is not that accessible with screen
 reader.

For instance, I cannot get to the buttons to control the volume,
mute the radio or play and/or pause it as I so wish.

Moreover, many of these radios seem to be getting rid of players
like winamp / vlc which I used before to play them in favour of the
 flash player.

Do you know of any web-based service that is accessible to play this
 type

 of
 content?

Or any desktop application that can play internet radio with such
 formats

 as
.m3u, .asx, .pls or even flash content and the screen reader like
nvda or jaws can work with?

Your help is, in advance, appreciable.

Hello Butch,

The $12 payment is to purchase the version that has all of the
features active.

However, I use the Free version, and I record with it all the time.

To any others using this program, do you get very good quality sound,
or do you get sound that seem a bit lacking in depth, warmth, and fullness.

what I get is alright for speech, but even then, I would prefer a
richer sound.

I know of tunein.com and have used it for sometime now, but it is a

Re: Accessible application to play Internet radio

2015-04-12 Thread Dave via Talk

I use the Tappen Radio program, that someone else has already mentioned.

it works well enough. Sometimes the quality of sound seems a bit
lacking, but it does work, and it is good enough.

I use it to record Sports if I am going to be away from the
Computer. It works great for that.

I can also choose from what seems like a Zillion Radio Stations from
all over the world and all kinds of styles.

As far as this program playing just strictly Internet Radio stations,
I would think it would, but then again, all I use it for is recording
from regular radio stations that Stream their programing over the Internet.

If you have the Stations URL, you can type this in and it should go
there and play what they are broadcasting.
