i think you will be stuck with the newest version. even if you install a older
version it will automatically update to the newest version again. and if not
you will be left wide open for malware attacks if you keep useing the older

Try using Control-F4 to close the problematic document, and this will keep

Then, return to the folder where the file attachment is stored and try

RE: adobe reader.

2015-03-13 Thread Bill Belew via Talk
Hi Alan,

I have used the OCR programs for many years and they have grown and improved
over the years. I regularly go through my mail using OCR and it is
extremely accurate. Like any complex program or function, it is true that
you will run into errors here and there, but the ability to read material
independently when I choose is very valuable.

It's interesting that when OCR for blind users started in the late 80's or
early 90's, just the scanner cost $1,150. Now you can get a scanner that is
more than twice as fast, much more accurate for under $50.

I am having difficulty with Adobe. I never have had a

RE: adobe reader.

2015-04-01 Thread Rock West via Talk

Chris,

No, I had the document open, but it would not talk. I
downloaded AVG, and the problems started after that. When I
uninstalled the AVG program, I could read the .pdf document. I used
to use AVG all of the time but went to Security Essentials. It seems
to work better, but I have been told AVG is a much better program.

What browser are you using? If you are using FX at the ninite web site there
is a link for screen reader users. Arrow down to adobe reader and hit the
space bar to select it, then arrow down to the installer package and hit
enter. Then a page will come up, and find the link that says click here if
the installer hasn't started, this is what I always have to do. Then go to
your download folder, find the download and hit enter to install. Good luck.

Try using the OCR function of the virtual view app. You don't need the pdf
to be opened in Adobe. Just launch the VV app with control-alt-v and choose

Hi!

There are always updates, especially if you have not paid for it. For
most times the update is to get you to purchase there premium.
Make your own choice on that.

I got a notice to update Adobe. Should I keep the present version, or does
the update work with W. E.? I'm using 9.1 with Windows 7

Robin,

Try Control-Insert-S, which will cause Window-Eyes to speak the status line.

Subject: adobe reader has taken over .pdf docs

I have a fully functioning version of adobe acrobat pro. Until I unstalled
the latest version of Adobe Acrobat reader, my Adobe pro was the default -
all my .pdf docs would be opened in Adobe Acrobat Pro and I could save docs
as word files, etc. Now, Now, whenever I open a .pdf doc, it opens in Adobe
Acrobat reader, not the Pro version. How do I change this? I can't find a
setting that makes Adobe Acrobat Pro the default.

Please help!

Thanks.
