Re: Accessible Twitter clients

2017-01-15 Thread Chris Skarstad via Talk
Hi. These types of programs like the qube, Chicken Nugget and tw blue
work just fine under Windows 10, i have never had a single issue, no
matter what screenreader is being used. This comes down to knowing
which keystrokes to use.
Remember, in Windows 10 the keymap is slightly different. In Windows
10, the keystrokes for everything have changed to alt, plus windows,
plus whatever other key you want to use. So, replace the control key
with the alt key and it will work just fine.
i.e. alt, plus windows plus up and down arrows will move through the
list of tweets for the selected buffer. alt plus windows plus left and
right arrows will go through the list of different buffers home,
mentions, direct messages, etc.

Hope this helps.

Chris,

Thank you for your response. I don't think CN was tested very thoroughly
under Windows 10. Often times, using ctrl-B, a link won't open or it takes
at least 1 minute, if not longer for it to open. There are core funtions
like follow that are undefined and you can't hide the app under windows 10
or you will never see it again without re-installing it. Also, there
appears to be two ways to arrow through tweets which causes confusion when
trying to pen a link in a tweet. This I believe, goes to the lack of
thoroughness in testing. The two ways to arrow through are up and down arrow
or win-alt-up or down arrow.

Thanks for the info on the developer. That's not good as he needs to be
open to input from the community.

Hi. Actually, both TW blue and Chicken nugget both work just fine under
Windows 10. In fact, the latest version of CN even checks to see if
you're using Windows 10, and if so, switches to the correct keymap.
Because Windows 10 has changed some of the key assignments, you will have to
use alt, plus windows plus any other key to do what you want i.e. to move

TW Blue or Chicken Nugget, both are the same. I prefer TW blue because it
moves a lot faster than Chicken nugget does, at least on this particular
system, plus it's free, while CN costs 15 bucks.

Also, the money for me isn't really the issue. The developer of TW blue
is a whole lot nicer than the developer of Chicken Nugget is. I think being
stung by a horde of bees is a nicer experience than having to deal with that
particular individual. So, I go with the nicer guy, and the program that
works better. By the way, the only keystroke that hasn't changed in Windows
10 is replying to a tweet. it's still control plus windows plus r.

I'm not sure why that is, but it is the same. you can get TW blue at

The developer speaks spanish, but is also very good at English so he should
be able to answer any questions or help with any issues you have.

Hi Bob

Let me recommend a twitter app made by the blind called TW Blue. Like i
mentioned it's made by the blind for the blind so of course, it's going to
work right out of the box, no extra scripts or anything necessary.
It might be a bit of a different concept than you're used to, but the
upshoot is that you let the app run in the background and as your tweets
come in, you can use different keystrokes to read them from anywhere within
windows itself. On windows 7 and 8.1 systems, you use control plus windows
plus up and down arrow to read your tweets, and on windows 10, it's alt plus
windows plus any other command you want to do. Like I say the documentation
is very complete, so be sure to check that out.
It's absolutely free, and you can grab a copy from http://www.twblue.es
the site and app are made by someone who speaks spanish, but they also
understand English very well so if you have any problems he should be able
to help you.
If you try it, let us know how it goes.

Re: Using Twitter with WE

2016-07-18 Thread Chris Skarstad via Talk

Hi Bob

Let me recommend a twitter app made by the blind called TW Blue. Like i
mentioned it's made by the blind for the blind so of course, it's going
to work right out of the box, no extra scripts or anything necessary.
It might be a bit of a different concept than you're used to, but the
upshoot is that you let the app run in the background and as your tweets
come in, you can use different keystrokes to read them from anywhere
within windows itself. On windows 7 and 8.1 systems, you use control
plus windows plus up and down arrow to read your tweets, and on windows
10, it's alt plus windows plus any other command you want to do. Like I
say the documentation is very complete, so be sure to check that out.

It's absolutely free, and you can grab a copy from
http://www.twblue.es
the site and app are made by someone who speaks spanish, but they also
understand English very well so if you have any problems he should be
able to help you.

If you try it, let us know how it goes.

I recorded a webinar a while back that includes a demo of using Window-Eyes on

The demo of Twitter starts around the 13 minute mark.

I like to use which is sharing a tweet with Face Book. I found where you
can email a tweet or flag a photo but that is it outside of the normal

Re: TWITTER

2015-11-14 Thread Chris Skarstad via Talk

Hi

Making use of one of the twitter clients made especially for the blind
is your very best bet. There are a few free options and a paid one.
For free, you can use, tw blue, which is primarily made by spanish
speakers, but there is a US version that is easy to find.

http://www.twblue.es
That one is regularly updated. The Qube, which is one that is a
little less developed, is available at

http://theqube.oire.org

The paid one has a silly name, chicken nugget but it's one of the most
powerful clients available. http://getaccessibleapps.org
and choose the software link. I hope this helps somewhat. The nice
thing about all these clients is that you can use them from anywhere in
Windows. for example, to look at your tweets you are following, use
control windows up and down arrow. Be sure to read the read me for all
the keystrokes.

I do most of my fb and Twitter stuff on mobile devices but I would suggest
either chicken nugget or tw blue for Twitter. I wouldn't suggest social eyes as
it is running on life support and the plug could be pulled at anytime. If you

The Qube works again. You'll probably have to do a complete uninstall of

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

RE: Twitter Keyboard Shortcuts

2015-03-24 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
Hi Gerard,
I am replying to the Talks list as well as to you because I thought this topic
might be of interest to others. Modal dialogs presented dynamically by a web
page, like the Twitter.com keyboard shortcuts dialog, can be very tricky to
read with a screen reader. The Twitter team assigned an ARIA role of
alertdialog to this modal dialog. This is why Window-Eyes will read the entire
contents of the dialog automatically when it is displayed. Hearing the info
read automatically can be very helpful, but what if you want to go back and
review the commands one at a time. How would you go about doing this?
Often times, when a modal dialog opens, Browse Mode will be off and you might
not know exactly where focus is. Even if focus does go to the dialog, pressing
Tab with Browse Mode off most likely won't help you get to the text because the
text probably isn't in a control or the Tab order. The solution is to find the
dialog content in Browse Mode. This is not always an easy task since you might
not know where the information is, what it contains or how it is marked up
(i.e. headings, tables, etc.). Here is what I discovered. The Twitter keyboard
shortcuts dialog contains three tables. Each table has two columns, the first
for the key command, the second for the associated action. For example, N (key
command) and New Tweet (action). So, if you turn Browse Mode on and navigate to
the first table on the page, you should find the first group of keyboard
shortcuts in the modal dialog. Keep in mind you would first need to open the
dialog before you could find it in Browse Mode and y
ou can only access the dialog by pressing Shift-Question Mark with Browse Mode
off. Please keep in mind that you might have to develop new strategies for
other websites since these types of dialogs can be implemented in many
different ways. I hope you find this information helpful.
Regards,
Marc

Subject: Twitter Keyboard Shortcuts

When using Firefox and Window-Eyes 9.1 and Windows 8.1 I cannot navigate the
dialog containing the table of twitter keyboard shortcuts that is brought up
when you press the available keyboard shortcuts button. I tried navigating the
table with browse mode on and with browse mode off and tried using ctrl-shift-R
the read to end key. Thanks.

I am looking forward to your next webinar.
