Re: web vissum work around

2015-12-24 Thread Reg Webb via Talk
Thanks Mark

It turns out someone had unchecked that box, since they thought it would
"help".

If anyone else finds themselves in this position, since W-E will crash
as soon as you try to get into about:config, you'll need to close W-E,
get yourself into "about:config" and get some eyes to make sure you've
found "config warning", make it true again, get out of there, and restart W-E.

Having done that, the turn autoload and browse mode off procedure works
as you said it would.

Thanks again

2015-12-23 Thread Reg Webb via Talk
Nor on this one Mark.

I just tried it and, after W-E stopped talking, my sighted wife and I
managed to shut down Firefox from Task Manager, and W-E came up, but not
working properly - (win+d would not get me the desktop). After closing
W-e and restarting it, I'm now back to normal but, without sighted
support, the rest is silence!
Windows7-64 W-E9.3.1 latest Firefox.
Incidentally, at my first attempt, W-E said "browse mode not available",
so I couldn't turn it off if I tried.

RE: web vissum work around

2015-12-23 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
Well, that is what I get for making a suggestion without testing it out first.
I am also experiencing the Firefox hang when opening the about:config page
regardless if Browse Mode is on or off. This happens in the latest Firefox
under both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. I have notified our development team, so
if the issue is on our end, which seems likely at this point, we can
investigate further.
Thanks,
Marc

RE: web vissum work around

2015-12-23 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
Well, I stand corrected. Chris from our support team helped clarify that you
can use the about:config screen in Firefox with Window-Eyes if you do two
things before activating the I'll be careful I promise button:
1. Disable auto loading of Browse Mode (Insert-A is the default hotkey for
toggling this feature on and off) Note: don't forget to turn auto load back on
when you are done
2. Manually turn off Browse Mode (Control-Shift-A)
I just tested this out and it worked great under Windows 10 and Firefox 43.0.1.
We do have this issue logged in our bug tracking system but this work around
can be used until it is fixed.
Thanks,
Marc

Well, that is what I get for making a suggestion without testing it out first.
I am also experiencing the Firefox hang when opening the about:config page
regardless if Browse Mode is on or off. This happens in the latest Firefox
under both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. I have notified our development team, so
if the issue is on our end, which seems likely at this point, we can
investigate further.
Thanks,
Marc

Nor on this one Mark.

I just tried it and, after W-E stopped talking, my sighted wife and I
managed to shut down Firefox from Task Manager, and W-E came up, but not
working properly - (win+d would not get me the desktop). After closing
W-e and restarting it, I'm now back to normal but, without sighted
support, the rest is silence!
Windows7-64 W-E9.3.1 latest Firefox.
Incidentally, at my first attempt, W-E said "browse mode not available",
so I couldn't turn it off if I tried.

Reg, by default there is a checkbox on the about:config page just above the
I'll be careful button labeled Show this warning next time. Sounds like you
unchecked this checkbox at some point.

My system seems mysteriously to have bypassed the "I'll be careful"
button, so the only way I can access about:config is to turn autoload
and browse mode off before I type "about:config" whereupon, on pressing
enter, I go straight into it, with no button required.
Does anyone know why?

Hi McLeod,

Thanks for the info. I wonder if you could check below since the end of
your message was cut off and perhaps you wanted to say more than we got.

Thanks,

Rod

Subject: web vissum work around

i found this on another list.
I posted this to another list or actually several. It is apparently only
a temporary fix--since in Firefox 44, they will remove the configuration
item that will disable this strict signing requirement. I know I am
going to run 2 versions of Firefox: the current one which allows the
hack and the newest one. If I need the webvisum plug-in, I will use that
older one for signing into captia based sites.

There is a workaround but it _may_ make you less secure.

1. Open Firefox 43 and in the address bar, type the below line as seen
with no spaces:

about:config

2. You will get a Firefox warning saying: 'This may void your warranty.'
Click on the button that sardonically says: 'I'll be careful, I promise.'

3. tab once to the list of 700 or so items and press the letter X. You
are looking for the below item:

xpinstall.signatures.required

4. When this item is highlighted, press the context key or right click
and choose toggel or press T (same thing.)

5. The highlighted value should change to false as in:

xpinstall.signatures.required;false

Then press control + W to close the window and when you run Firefox
again, Webvisum should work.

Again, this may make you less secure, but if you are careful and do not
allow add ons to be installed automatically, at least in the opinion of
some, your risk is minimal. For versions going way back to Firefox 3 or
4, every time I install something that inserts a browser add on, when I
run Firefox for the first time afterward, Firefox always prompts me to
allow or disallow the installation--regardless of whether the

I would suggest turning Browse Mode off before trying to interact with the
about:config page in Firefox.

Hi all
I find that the system crashes when I activate about:config in Firefox
with the latest W-E running but, if I close W-E, my sighted wife can
make it work just fine. I haven't tried NVDA yet. Any thoughts?
