Hi All,

I wanted to share that HOT has completed our project to create
materials in English and Bahasa Indonesia to help people learn about
OpenStreetMap.

Everything is up at the following URL: http://www.learnosm.org/. The
intent is to put up additional tutorials and some video screencasts as
we go as well.

This project was lead by Jeff Haack with the assistance of Vasanthi
and Emir Hartato (who some of you probably met at SotM).

We hope it is helpful for others,

Great job! More material is always good :)

How can we contribute further translations?

cheers
Matthias

Many thanks to HOT for this!

I already downloaded the beginners guide, this is exactly what I need for
the introduction event we are organizing:

Yeah, it's a bit annoying that you have the tiles in one folder and the
merged file in another, which takes up double disk space for the same
data. But I believe with a little modification it might also be possible
to merge tiles into the target file (database, whatever) one after
another. That however requires an extension of the file format (database
scheme), because way nodes need this extra atttribute "tile number" (in
the XML tiles I already introduced ).

Yes. But I'm still not sure whether the Java program I've
written/modified is a good basis. I mean I just had to do it some way,
for the thesis, but I also have using frameworks/libraries like osmium
in mind. It could be an osmosis plugin as well. I haven't had enough
time to investigate that, though...

Thanks
