Most entries are just the backend storage for the GUI preferences, so
there is no need to edit those by hand. Another group are settings that
give access to "hidden" features, typically for tuning a hard-coded
parameter.

There is no complete list of JOSM advanced preferences with
descriptions. Some keys and their function are mentioned in a commit
message or bug tracker comment. The best you can do is to find where the
preference key is referenced in the JOSM source code and try to
understand what it does.

I second that. We could use this index for JOSM, but unfortunately the

Re: [OSM-talk] JOSM Tile Cache

2015-04-26 Thread Paul Hartmann

Hi Mike,

There has been a major rework of the TMS cache back end in version
8168-8186. If you can still reproduce this problem with the current
development build or with the upcoming release, then please don't
hesitate to report it directly on the JOSM bug tracker!

I would like to flush JOSM's "OpenStreetMap (Mapnik)" tile cache. With the

then clicked on "Flush Tile Cache", but I still see outdated tiles (when
compared to the openstreetmap.org website - I made sure both were on the
same zoom level). I also tried, in conjunction with the above, removing and
re-adding the "OpenStreetMap (Mapnik)" layer, as well as restarting JOSM.

Finally I tried renaming the "OpenStreetMap (Mapnik)" folder in the
following location: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\JOSM\cache\tms
(this is the location the "imagery.tms.tilecache preference is set to).
Only after doing this were the tiles updated.

Does the "Flush Tile Cache" work? I saw a bug report[1] about something
like this, but it was closed four years ago as "fixed." If it is working,
am I using it correctly?

Thanks,

Mike

[OSM-talk] JOSM graphics contest

2014-07-19 Thread Paul Hartmann

Hi,

JOSM needs your support! The developer team of the editor JOSM is
looking for a new logo. Therefore we're holding a graphics contest.

* What's it about?
The current logo should be replaced completely by your design. It will
be used in the software itself, on the website and in various other
media related to JOSM.

* Why do we need a new logo?
Presently, we are still using the old OSM icon from 2011. Instead of a
slight revision, we would like to abandon the concept "OSM-logo + coffee
mug" and find a new, independent identification for the project.

* What are the rules?
Everyone can participate. You can submit your work till 30th of
September 2014 to contest at josm.openstreetmap.de. The image should be
in vector format (SVG) and still look okay at low resolution (16x16
pixel). You can find further details on the wiki page:

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/JOSM/Graphic_Contest

We are looking forward to your contribution!

Re: [OSM-talk] Question on undelete/restore

Hi,

using OSM inspector's coastline view I came across a rather large

accidentially deleted it. He agreed to revert the change and I
volunteered to take care of it.

As it turns out the changeset (13910261) included more changes to roads
etc.- 92 ways overall - so reverting would include more than just the
coastline. To make things even worse there are also some following,
conflicting changesets. So using the reverter plugin causes quite a
number of conflicts that I have a hard time to resolve. But just to make
sure I have contacted the user again because it sounded like he wouldn't
mind to revert all changs. But the answer is still pending due to
different time zones.

So I tried to only undelete the way for the coastline using the
"undelete" plugin. Trying to do so gives an error on upload as the way
references deleted nodes. Sounds reasonable but doesn't really help.

Any suggestion how to best get this fixed again?

Have you tried Undelete plugin and then File > 'upload selection' just
for the coastline way?

Technically, the reverter does pretty much that: Upload the version
before the problematic change (this creates a new version and extends
the object history like a normal changeset, there is no server magic
for reverting). One exception are objects that have been created in
the bad changeset: There is no previous version, so they are just
deleted by the reverter.

Whenever there are already changes by other users on top of the bad
changeset ("dirty revert"), you'll get notified by the plugin
(conflicts are created).
See http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/JOSM/Plugins/Reverter

All TMS from the imagery menu should also be available in the download
dialog. You can add custom TMS in the preferences.

JOSM reverter plugin is used frequently and should work without

Maybe you have set the wrong projection? Try Mercator.

While that's true to avoid the problem: shouldn't be these tools
independent from the projection?

Do you mean geometry in 3D / on the sphere? This is quite complicated.
E.g. if you draw a little "rectangle" on the sphere, each angel is
slightly larger than 90 degrees. (Assuming the edges are the shortest
lines from point to point on the sphere.) So you cannot really
orthogonalize it.

A circle would be easy, though.

If that's willingly not independent, IMHO there should be a warning that
making circular does not make it circular on ground, but in the current
projection, that produces wrong angles.

It was suggested, that "Q" should use Mercator silently, no matter which
projection is currently selected. But then it will look skew in JOSM, so
maybe some kind of warning would be best.

This library is very heavy on the GPU (as opposed to google maps),
which makes it really slow in e.g. vmware without GPU acceleration,
and presumably on platforms that don't have a GPU.

I've seen this before e.g. with some jQuery animations, which are
really slow without a GPU.

OpenLayers and Google Maps don't suffer from the same problem.

The animations are awesome though. On my system, they work in Chrome, but not
in Firefox 3.6 or Opera 11.01 browser.

Normally I'd say it is good to have a little competition, but wouldn't it be so much
easier to fork OL and rewrite the parts you don't like? A "friendly fork" could
contribute some code upstream occasionally.
