If someone can find a URL for the geoTiffs to download, then I can make them available in the same way as the GeoEYE stuff I've done today. I'll see how things are in the morning. We also now have the permission to use DigitalGlobe imagery: http://twitter.com/mikel/status/7764452473 "Just confirmed: DigitalGlobe imagery can be used for OSM tracing. Just need source tag, and a note in wiki. Thx DG!" Who can make the imagery available for tracing in JOSM and Potlatch? tourism=camp_site is rendered, which is important right now. we can add refugee=yes to indicate the difference. clean up later if we come up with a better scheme == Mikel Maron == http://mapkibera.org/ +254 (0) 724899738 mi...@osmfoundation.org From: Jean-Marc Liotier To: talk@openstreetmap.org Sent: Thu, January 14, 2010 11:47:28 AM Subject: Re: [OSM-talk] Field Requirements from Haiti for spatial imagery-based work (processing & digitizing): NEED to map any spontaneous camps appearing in the imagery with size in area nicolas chavent wrote: > > I am relaying a mapping requirement grounded in Haiti from GIS > practitioners mapping there at the United Nations Office of Coordination > of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA): > > "NEED to map any spontaneous camps appearing in the imagery with size in > area" Relevant feature would be nodes or areas tagged "amenity=camp" ("a temporary living or relocation area, used for displaced persons, workers etc.") - a not-yet-voted proposed feature not to be confused with "tourism=camp"... ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

They directed me to http://www.spotimage.com/web/121-charte-risques.php which mentions their participation in the International Charter "Space and Major Disasters". The charter's web site has a page for Haiti, which links to some imagery: http://www.disasterscharter.org/web/charter/activation_details?p_r_p_1415474252_assetId=ACT-287 There are some additional images at http://sertit.u-strasbg.fr/SITE_RMS/2010/01_rms_haiti_2010/01_rms_haiti_2010.html but the post-earthquake imagery is only at ten meters resolution. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Digital Globe made the Philippines imagery available for us after the floods there[1]. It's worth noting that a lot of the imagery was mis-rectified, but usually by less than 100m. We had sufficient GPS traces to align major roads correctly, but I don't know if we'll have that in Haiti. > If this becomes available, then this is certainly the kind of thing we can > look for in the imagery. I asked Spot Image : they don't mention the earthquake on their site, so who knows - why no ask ? Below is the text of the message I sent the using their contact form : The OpenStreetMap project is currently contributing mapping to help Haiti relief efforts. : http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Haiti#2010_Earthquake_Response Here is the state of our map of Port-Au-Prince - http://osm.org/go/YeSWSf4 We need post-quake imagery to provide the necessary maps to the emergency responders. Would you provide images on a pro-bono humanitarian basis ? This would provide a great opportunity for Spot Image to show public benevolence and benefit from the resulting goodwill. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

GeoEye has half-meter post-earthquake imagery, but they don't mention any public availability. Details are still emerging but apparently Digital Globe is making available pre- and post- event imagery, tomorrow. There are other sources in the pipeline. I'm of course pushing to make sure that we have full rights to derive vectors from these sources. If this becomes available, then this is certainly the kind of thing we can look for in the imagery. -Mikel == Mikel Maron == http://mapkibera.org/ +254 (0) 724899738 mi...@osmfoundation.org From: nicolas chavent To: talk@openstreetmap.org Cc: CJ Hendrix Sent: Wed, January 13, 2010 6:18:32 PM Subject: [OSM-talk] Field Requirements from Haiti for spatial imagery-based work (processing & digitizing): NEED to map any spontaneous camps appearing in the imagery with size in area Hi there I am relaying a mapping requirement grounded in Haiti from GIS practitioners mapping there at the United Nations Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA): "NEED to map any spontaneous camps appearing in the imagery with size in area" Best.
