Thanks Christoph, I didn't know that changes to the stylesheet were necessary as well to make the sea show up in the map. You need matching rules in your style-files for sea and land! Then you have to make sure, that the sea is the first polygonlayer that is drawn and the land is the next one. (I specified it in my typfile, but frederik has none) The 2 rules on my polygon-style look like: natural=sea [0x32 resolution 10] natural=land [0x27 resolution 10] 0x32 is the default garmin sea type and maybe it works, but I don't know if there is a default landtype. For me it doesn't matter because I define it in my typfile. So I would not suggest Frederik to use this option without some testing of the result map! Re: [OSM-talk] Haiti: All in One Garmin Map now with Damage layer and MapSource installer
Frederik, I think it would be good if you added the following parameter to the Mkgmap commandline: --series-name="OSM Map of Haiti dated $DATE" This will make the map selection box in MapSource more clear (It now says "OSM map"). Another option could be: --generate-sea=polygons,no-sea-sectors,close-gaps=2000 This will add sea polygons to make the distinction between land and sea (copied from the Mkgmap mailinglist). Hope this helps. I would assume so, though we also took care to pick elements from Garmin's internally-supported feature list that match roughly what we want to show (there is some "danger" stuff in that list), so it might be that the All-in-One is still useful without the TYP file capability (if only for the routing, assuming that it works). The map is currently at 10 MB file size, so this might be a bigger problem on older units. Cheers Colin ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

The list here specifies which Garmins support typ files: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Garmin Though its incomplete / unconfirmed for some models. Thanks for the helpful replies, all. Is there a list of which (presumably Garmin) GPS's support "all-in-one" and which don't? Hi, Colin Marquardt wrote: > Well, the latter one probably doesn't have anything specifically added > for the crisis correct. >, and may route you along roads tagged with > impassable=yes for instance (something which the All in One avoids). not correct until 5 minutes ago - because I wasn't even using the --route flag to mkgmap so the Geofabrik maps haven't ever routed anyone anywhere. Not that people complained though - it seems that in Haiti people prefer to navigate for themselves ;-) I have now added the routing capability and NSIS installer to the Geofabrik stuff as well (thank you Lambertus for the detailed instructions), and I will continue offering these downloads, but if your GPS is capable of running the "all in one" map then I recommend using that instead of the simple map on the Geofabrik site. I would recommend that http://haiti.crisiscommons.org/gps/ be changed to point to the "all in one" map downloads, or at least list them as the #1 choice, and use the Geofabrik stuff only as a fallback if you have an older Garmin model that doesn't support the all in one. Well, the latter one probably doesn't have anything specifically added for the crisis, and may route you along roads tagged with impassable=yes for instance (something which the All in One avoids). And its styling is probably just the default whereas All in One renders as many features as possible, including different way types. (BTW, we now have a photo of the map on the wiki page.) The "All in One" map uses more sophisticated drawing rules and has multiple layers. What's the difference between http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/All_in_one_Garmin_Map#Haiti and the haiti.crisiscommons.org/gps geofabrik file (http://labs.geofabrik.de/haiti/latest.garmin-gmapsupp.zip) located at http://haiti.crisiscommons.org/gps/ I'm working on a video to explain how to load the basemaps onto their Garmin, so any information I get can be integrated into that. [OSM-talk] Haiti: All in One Garmin Map now with Damage layer and MapSource installer
Hi all, (posting this for Christoph Wagner, who did all the work) We now have the Garmin All in One Map for Haiti with an additional layer showing damage (very similar to http://haiti.openstreetmap.nl). A MapSource installer is also included since that was a request by Craig Luecke, one of the known users of OSMs Garmin files. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/All_in_one_Garmin_Map#Haiti The files are updated every 30 minutes. If you are in contact with relief organisations, please forward this information. Suggestions for improvements welcome.
