I think its appropriate for us to give back some OSM love. :)

Two remote mapping requests are needed.

and

Haiti Quake

The first thing that's needed is removal of old data in Kibera, and linkage
of roads in Kibera to Nairobi main lines. What do you think?

We can also contribute to the Haiti quake response

 Thanks as always

Time to give back some OSM love.  :)  How can I help? I can spare a
 few hours of JOSM editing.

Current GPX is archived at http://kibera.maps.jsintl.org/traces

I have some hacky scripts that could be adapted to do this,
specifically:
http://github.com/avar/gps/blob/master/script/get-osm-gpx-tracks-for-user
combined with something like jgpxupload in osm svn.

But it would be easier to have a pg_dump of the and gpx* gps* tables
in your database along with a tarred up archive of the gpx tracks.

I see that all the map data has been uploaded but it appears none of
the GPX data has. Could you please upload these to the OSM database as
identifiable. It would make it much easier for others to fix up this
data if they had the GPX data for reference.

Re: [OSM-talk] Map Kibera import needs some mapper love

2010-01-12 Thread Sam Vekemans
Would that involve converting the .osm files to .gpx and uploading?

If so, i dont think the community agrees to upload perfect gpx traces,
the community perfers 'speratic' gpx tracks point clouds all over
the place.

None of that 'useful' gpx data, please :-)
(it only results in a better map)

kidding aside, i think thats a silly rule. As long as the tracks were
not traced from the Google monster.
What is the 'logical' explaination for not permitting this?

Re: [OSM-talk] Map Kibera import needs some mapper love

2010-01-12 Thread Sam Vekemans
it looks like your GPX tracks were RAW gpx tracks (that contain
date/time/elevation data.
there is just 97 .gpx tracks there. I think that it's fine to just manually
upload it to the main OSM database.

I was refering to converting the .osm files (from the source data).
because it contains to date/time/elevation stamp, the system rejects the
man-made gpx tracks.
