Re: [talk-au] OSGeo Oceania as a not-for-profit entity? Your feedback, please

2019-03-18 Thread John Bryant
Thanks for the feedback Graeme. I agree 100% with holding an AGM &
producing financial reports. In all likelihood, we'd aim for holding an AGM
at the annual conference, which is easily our best opportunity for a
face-to-face meeting. Details will be sorted out in due course, but I
definitely encourage you to keep our feet to the fire on this :)

Re: getting professional help. I agree - it's not necessarily hugely
complicated. However I think what we're facing is a bit of complexity in
the order of operations, and optimising the process. While we could likely
figure it out ourselves, it would be helpful to have someone with
experience to save us time & effort, and possibly help us avoid making
mistakes. So, the thinking behind paying a professional is to 1) lighten
the volunteer load a bit, while 2) ensuring we do this correctly and
efficiently. That said, if there is someone in the community who has
experience with this, and wants to lend a hand, let's talk...

That is a superb find Dion and would be useful not as a one off city app
but for the whole of Australasia as an app so we are not re-inventing this

Well worth a Georabble discussion on how this was made.

Hi Sigurjon!

Welcome to talk-au OSM! Really happy to see TfNSW involvement!

David and I are doing the NSW address import in our spare time here and there

It'd be good if you could join the meetup to say hi - you can mark yourself as

when there is another meetup:

Re: [talk-au] Transport for NSW (TfNSW)

2019-03-18 Thread Runarsson, Sigurjon
Hi Sebastian,

Currently we are mostly focusing on A to B trip planning for public transport
modes including walking. So our main focus atm is to enhance the data around
interchanges i.e. stations layouts to support routing indoors as well as
outdoors. Saying that, we are determined to contribute to all attributes
within the osm database based on internal and external feedback.

Guidelines – I would say that we need more assistance/guidance from the osm
users like yourself in most instances:) but yes we would contribute in
discussion and wiki if needed.
Based on discussion that I have had internally for the last few days we feel
that making the data available in osm by importing and regularly maintain the
data like bus stops is the way to go rather than telling the users how to map
ie naming a bus stop. So based on that we are now actively working on getting
approval for a waiver signed for bus stops in particular so we can proceed. If
successful, more datasets would follow.

Maybe discussion for later date but I feel that other datasets like suburbs and
address data could be updated (bulk import) into osm on regular basis as more
and more consumers are directly taking the osm database into their products.
Hopefully we can get waivers signed and go down that path.

I will keep you posted with any developments on the waiver(s). In the meantime
please let us know if you have specific questions related to public transport.

Defiantly interested in regular local meetups. Unfortunately cannot make the
30 March.

[talk-au] Correct way to tag pedestrian crossings with traffic signals

2019-03-18 Thread Thomas Manson
I am trying to determine the best way to tag pedestrian crossings.

These are the map features that I am trying to tag:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/3500829415
 and https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/2039208753

They are currently tagged:
crossing:traffic_signals
highway:traffic_signals

However, on the page
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dtraffic_signals, there appears
to be 2 ways to tag this, with the alternative being:
highway:crossing
crossing:traffic_signals
for the cases (like this is) where the pedestrian crossing is not separately
mapped - in this case it is only a pedestrian crossing, not an intersection.

My reading is that the second way is preferred for this type of crossing. Am I
correct?

Thomas

Re: [talk-au] OSGeo Oceania as a not-for-profit entity? Your feedback, please

2019-03-18 Thread Graeme Fitzpatrick
Thanks for keeping us posted, John, & good work!

I'd agree with the suggestion of a stand-alone CLG as a SPC, together with
charity status.

Although, as you have noted, this combination reduces the need for an AGM &
Financial reporting; in the interest of transparency, I would urge you to
still hold an AGM & produce financial reports for the benefit of members.
This would / should not need to be a fully audited report produced by an
accountant - anybody who is capable of entering info into QuickBooks can
produce a simple profit & loss statement to show where money has come from,
& gone to, over the preceeding year.

Do you need to get professional help in setting the Company up? While there
is a bit involved, it is all relatively straight-forward, & mainly involves
filling out govt forms (which, to anybody able to use the OSM wiki, should
be a piece of cake! :-)) Having said that, my experience is only with
Incorporated Associations, so a CLG may be a bit different, but shouldn't
be hugely more complicated?

Good luck with it all!

Thanks

Graeme

Hi Martin

I've only just started trying with the app, is there any word on when the
bug with ODB2 & BT getting fixed

Namely this open bug :-

https://github.com/openstreetcam/android/issues/125

My testing shows that you really need the ODB adapter when doing urban
streets as the GPS averaging is too slow to deal with the acceleration
changes.

Thanks Michael

Howdy.

We had a good time with the first OpenStreetCam competition, the winners
received their prizes, and we decided to hold another one. The main prize
this time is an OSC Waylens Horizon camera. This is a fairly nifty device
that lets you automatically record and upload to OSC. The competition is
open now until April 15th. As before, just collect more OSC points than
other mappers to win. Read details on the Telenav ImproveOSM blog:

Re: [talk-au] Sydney mapathon

2019-03-18 Thread Dion Moult
Hey all! I've started an event here:
https://gettogether.community/events/1001/sydney-osm-mappers/

If you could sign up or comment there I can change the venue and time easily
without spamming the talk-au list. I've changed the date to 30th March Saturday
. it would also allow me to know who is coming and what to cater for if we get
food.

My company in north sydney is open on weekends and I've received approval for
using computers and guest WiFi. Also informal approval for getting pizza and
drinks (non alcoholic).

Need a bit more approval from management to let strangers in the office (I will
be liable, obviously) but I suspect I can host.
