I've seen all kinds of approaches and they all end up in argument ~:| I guess this is one specific case of the broader problem of what to do when two separate entities are co-located (i.e. nodes would be right on top of each other). Well, it depends what you're calling the bus stop. If you go with the stop area approach, these problems go away. In this case I guess you could use highway=bus_stop *and* amenity=waste_basket (i.e. share a single node), but this becomes a problem when you want to tag two things with the same key, e.g. amenity=bench *and* amenity=shelter. That old chestnut. That is schema fail, but the cabal won't see reason. It's always popping up stopping us from representing the real world. Got the t-shirt. Unless you use the centre of the sign pole and the centre of the hole in the top of the waste_basket...urgh time to move on :) ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au

Yep, hold your horses. There's been some excellent work by the transit list people I need to research a little more to see where it's at. Gday, For tagging highway=bus_stop 's, in addition to the existing shelter=yes/no, I'm planning to also use bench=yes/no and waste_basket=yes/no, as these features are often installed as part of the bus stop itself, in Brisbane. Tagging separate nodes with amenity=* is not ideal, as 1) i couldn't really be bothered and, more importantly, 2) they are physically part of the bus stop (e.g. bench built into the bus_stop shelter; waste_basket bolted to the bus_stop sign) and therefore additional nodes are not even semantically more correct.
