2019-06-20 Thread nkn

Hi Norfolk mappers and folks from further away

This is a reminder for the meeting to take place on Saturday, 22th June,
2pm.

I reserved a table in the Rumsey Wells Pub, 4 St. Andrews Street,
Norwich, NR2 4AF. We can have a drink and a chat here and perhaps some
joint mapping afterwards.

Everyone is welcome to join, see you there :)

Regards
Nora

Hi

the get-together in Norwich on Saturday went well, thanks for asking.
We were five in total and discussed all over the place. As another
five people indicated their interest to join a future meeting, I try
to keep up the momentum by organising a similar event in June. I hope
we can continue the lively conversations also with the guys who were
there on Saturday.

P.S. Once again, my apologies to the readers of the list if this is

firefox warns me that it is not correctly https secured so I won't be
using that. I am also not planning to set up another email account

Hi

I'm asked to enter a confirmation code after attempting to add some
content to my wiki profile page for the first time.

Where do I get the confirmation code from?

Thanks

Re: [Talk-GB] OSMappers meeting in Norfolk

2019-05-15 Thread nkn

Hi

Robert - Thank you for the Norfolk/Meetups wiki page!

Jez - Adivce is hard to give after doing this for the first time but
here are some thoughts. For the recent meeting, I received the most
responses by writing to people individually via the Who is around me?
site. Apparently not many people in Norfolk read this list (or simply
enjoy mapping on their own). It is a bit time-consuming but it was worth
it and I might do it again for the coming meeting.

In terms of date and time, I believe a weekend day and a time in the
middle of the day makes sense for people to travel to the place. I
preferred a public locality that can be reached by public transport. As
it was an initial meeting, there was no thematic agenda but that could
change in the future, depending what people prefer to do. However, I
don't believe this occurs anytime soon as there is no routine
established yet.

It would be great to read about experiences from people who frequently
organise or join OSM meetings.

Regards
Nora

Good stuff!

Any advice to others about holding a meetup? Like, how people found
out it was on.

Makes me think I should hold one in Brighton. It has been a while.

Yes, I think it went well, and many thanks to Nora for taking the
initiative and organising it. I've put together a quick wiki page for
what will hopefully be a series of Norfolk meetups, along with some
notes and links about the things we discussed:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Norfolk/Meetups . I'd encourage
others to add anything I've missed, and put links to their user pages
if they want.

Robert.

Hi Norfolk mappers,

this is the confirmation for the OSM meeting to take place on Saturday,
11th May, 2pm.

I reserved a table in the Rumsey Wells Pub, 4 St. Andrews Street,
Norwich, NR2 4AF.

See you there :)

Jez - I did contact NorDev. Unfortunately no response yet. Might try the
other two platforms at a future meeting. Thanks.

NorDev is https://www.meetup.com/Norfolk-Developers-NorDev/ and

MapTime http://maptime.io/ is a generic brand for mapping/development
meetups, which, if you started a group might get people's attention.

CodeClub is a kids' programming club, I think I meant Codebar
https://codebar.io/ which is a club for underrepresented people to
learn programming.

The 'Who is around me?' is a good idea, also looking at notes in the
main https://www.openstreetmap.org/

The main thing is that I only have encouragement to give, and not answers.

Hi Jez

thank you for your encouragement. Indeed, this is the attempt to
find my tribe :) I don't know about NorDev and similarly, I
haven't come across Maptime or CodeClub yet. Are these groups or
types of events? A quick search doesn't reveal anything relevant
or UK-specific to me, so if you could send some more details, I
would be grateful and make contact with them.

The only OSM-related group in my proximity seem to be the HOT
group in Cambridge running the Missing Maps events which I
recently joined. Having spoken to two of the co-organisers, they
seem to be no OSM group as such in Cambridge and it is quite far
away for me.

Apart from writing via this GB list, I plan to approach some
individuals with the help of the Who is around me? tool
(http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/oooc) over the next couple of days.

Thank you
Nora

As a mapper and OSMUK Director I would love to see you succeed. I
am interested in how we enhance OSM all over the UK. I'm

NorDev to do a talk might shake some mappers out of the woodwork?
or generate some new ones? Or whether Norwich could do with a
Maptime or CodeClub? Or whether OSMUK could help?

Anyway, does anyone have any advice on 'finding you tribe' for
real-life OSM meetups?...or is it a case of starting with one
person and building slowly?

No, I haven't tried it before. After doing so, it didn't make a
difference unfortunately. However, using Chrome instead of Firefox
helped. The Captcha appeared.

Thank you though
