Hi folks, Requesting sheets: - 14/39 SE - 17/39 SW If you want or have time, you could throw up all of sector 17/39, perhaps sector 20/39 and any remaining in 14/39 and I'll work on getting them rectified Many thanks, Conor / idnoc ___ Talk-ie mailing list Talk-ie@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ie
Re: [OSM-talk-ie] Mapper(s) in Co.Clare
Thanks very much for that rapid and helpful reply. The second link was particularly impressive. Heck, all I have to do is click on the little "people" icons to get full details. Should I have been able to find those links myself ? I searched the wiki and a couple of other places (I'm a "read the manual first" person) without success. Mapping townlands in OSM-data dense urban areas is a lot trickier. You'd also need to ensure that we have already uploaded any GSGS maps they might require prior to the course starting. Remember also the basic workflow is 1) Check/Fix alignment of existing OSM data so it can be used as a reference for rectifying the GSGS sheets 2) Rectify the sheets on mapwarper using OSM data as the reference. 3) Start adding townlands in OSM using bing and gsgs sheets. 4) Have a few beers and pat your selves on the back. Re: [OSM-talk-ie] Cert in GIS LIT
That's great Dave, many thanks. As I understand it they are quite geographically spread, with a few coming from Cork. Would be great I think to have them map their own areas to begin with. I plan to focus the teaching on using qgis and other open source tools with some MapInfo thrown in so hopefully consistency won't be a problem. Thanks for the feedback. Brian. I think this is a great idea. The only comments I personally would have are to maybe spread their efforts around Munster a bit, that many people in one county would possibly see editing conflicts due to the size of townland areas. Also, so long as they follow the same steps I don't see any issues, e.g. if they are going to be using something like ArcGIS to do editing then there will likely be gaps in terms of consistency etc. Other than that, encourage them to join the mailing list or Facebook group, the more the merrier, plus we can assist if they need help Dave On 4 Nov 2014 09:54, "Eimhin Shortt" wrote: > Hi Brian, > > As you know , we are ready to roll in Birr witha mapplication and this > would be a founding piece of work in community advancement relative to GIS > and mapplication work. > > We never did catch up after last time. > > Lets do that > > All the best, > > Eimhin > > On Tue, Nov 4, 2014 at 9:49 AM, Brian O'Hare wrote: > > > Hi all, > > > > I'm starting to teach a Cert In GIS at LIT this week.
