[OSM-talk-ie] Public drinking fountains

2017-07-08 Thread Seán Lynch
Hi guys,

I saw a discussion recently, I think in this chat, a map of multiple public
drinking water fountains in Ireland

But I can't seem to find it in my emails or google

I can find individual points eg
http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/278846285#map=14/53.3388/-6.2602

Does anyone know how I can access a map of multiple points of interest?

Cheers,

Seán

This overpass link will find 35 in Leinster, I presume changing line 8 to
Ireland will find all

I doubt there is a centralised resource for the whole country (which I
assume you were thinking about). In theory, Irish Water would have a
dataset that would include these but I won't hold my breath (a recent
conversation with personnel in Dublin City council resulted in the
discovery that their public bike stands dataset was a result of a one-off
audit and wasn't maintained despite a lot of changes in the intervening
period).

I checked on data.gov.ie which would be the most obvious place to find this
info - nothing there.

Hopefully someone has better news.

2017-07-08 Thread Seán Lynch
Hi Brian & Donal,

Overpass and "Ireland" did work, thanks!

If they can implement these in 18th c Italy we should have no excuse here.
I would like to start campaigning for the introduction of a lot more and
this data is very useful to facilitate that discussion.

I'm also interested in promoting the existing ones use and if I can get the
data, find out if they reduce plastic bottle litter / consumption in the
area, although I doubt it as they don't seem to be well known at least in
my group of friends

Cheers guys,

PS if anyone is in Cork and would like a geo-chat I am running a litter
mapping workshops the odd weekend including next weekend -
https://www.meetup.com/Cork-Litter-mapping-Meetup/ - I will also run some
in Dublin and elsewhere soon too. Would anyone be interested in
participating? Some feedback would be great if anyone can iron out any
issues or bugs. I am also looking for a licence to ensure the data remains
free and open for anyone purpose. Any suggestions?

Best,
Seán

Seán,

Overpass-turbo will find things like this. Once you have the query correct, it
will find 99.99% of things (I've only had errors 3 times in a year).
http://url.ie/11un5

To edit the query, click on the Wizard. You can run queries like.

amenity=drinking_water
amenity=drinking_water in Mayo
highway=motorway and oneway!=yes

The last one, with the exclamation mark, finds motorway that isn't one-way.
