Re: [Talk-us] [Imports] Uploads to City of Salisbury, MD

2012-03-23 Thread Marc Zoss
Nick, Josh

In the meanwhile I have applied the changeset removing the duplicates and it
seems to have finished just fine. I briefly downloaded the date again and the
data now looks ok. Validator is not reporting any duplicates anymore. I also
fixed the building=yes tags in the inner way of the multipolygons.

Nick, you may go ahead now with checking the data and further improving it -one
thing that surprised me was that there does not seem to be a place-node for
the city itself.

Cheers and happy mapping

Mark, if you could commit the remove duplicates changeset, that'd be

I'm reverting a few of the changesets as we speak, so if Mark could
hold off a few minutes, I'll update you all as I go. Since this only
concerns the US, future messages will only be sent on the talk-us@
 list.

I've reverted a few of them (see [0]), but when I checked #10901301
(2 nodes), it couldn't revert cleanly, since some nodes are
danglers, while others are used for ways in subsequent uploads. I'll
stop for now, but maybe Mark can take a look at things now?

Steve, I agree that if we could have another month at least, we
could probably at least untaint all of the Interstates in the US if
everybody helped out. It would be better than nothing at least IMO.

But Steve, it doesn't help that you are also one of the undecided
users in CA.

James: First of all, I am not undecided, I accepted the newer CT
about a year ago, and have seriously contributed thousands of
improvements to OSM since 2009. Check
http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/stevea if you need proof. Second
of all, I am in a state called California, I have never been to a
place called CA. (And there is a difference; see the Buck Act of
1940). Please be careful!

I'm just trying to ignite some serious discussion on the possibility
of slightly pushing back the April 1 deadline, a modest, timely and
actually quite helpful proposal, in my opinion.

There used to be a place node there. If I get a chance, I'll see if I can
figure out when it was deleted. I think I had Salisbury tagged as
place=city; even though it's not very populous in an absolute sense, it
seemed like its prominence on the Delmarva peninsula merited more than
place=town.

[Talk-us] South Carolina North Carolina border shifting to the South

2012-03-23 Thread James Mast

I just saw this mentioned on MSNBC and thought I would let everybody know about
this since we would have to adjust the border in the future when it becomes
official. It seems that North Carolina will gain 150 feet of current South
Carolina. This will mostly cause problems in the Charlotte area.

This is a fascinating lesson about authoritative data if you ask me :)

For OSM, I'm not sure it will make a whole lot of difference. Pretty
sure the source our state borders were imported from was off by more
than 150 feet in most places anyway... Maybe it's better in urban
areas I guess.
