OK, so apparently I'm not the first person to think this. Also explains why a vast majority of cycleways, particularly in the areas that taginfo suggests have migrated, aren't rendering on the cyclemap layer. In the Midwest, "St. Clair" could either refer to the saint or to Arthur St. Clair, whose name wasn't "Arthur Saint Clair". (See [1].) I often put the "Saint" misspelling in alt_name, since the etymology isn't always clear to people searching the map. Unfortunately, that still leaves an ambiguous name for text-to-speech. Too bad there isn't software support for name:pronunciation or name:ipa.
