  That's strange

I should say that I'm using the Default Theme and color scheme. And I
used to have yellow envelopes for unread messages.

Yep, same over here - but the icons _are_ different. For unread mail
the icons is a closed envelope, for read mail the envelope is opened
and a sheet is half pulled out (That's what I see :-) - looks like
printer-icon for me).

OK - quite nice, but I too liked the difference in color better. It's
easier to see it at a glance instead of having to _think_ about what
icon there is. Maybe the unopened icon can be colored too?

resolved [bSelectAll]

| MHB/Manuel Breitfeld 30.04.2005 00:20:15 GUIDEF:Image reference is not

`-

These three entries append onto the log every time I create a new
message.

German users told me that there were even more entries before RC1, but
I forgot to test it myself. So this is for me and for some other
German users in RC1.

I deleted all graphic files in program directory and do not have any
batskin.* anymore.

Can anyone confirm or was this reported before?

Fatal AV 3.5 RC/1 and others

2005-04-30 Thread Marck D Pearlstone
Hi TB Beta list members,

UI: Ticker VF. Fatal.

The attached (cascading) AV was caused by marking a message in the
ticker as Junk using a defined shortcut key to perform the operation.
Perhaps connected ... in the previous beta, I had seen the marking of
junk cause the ticker to close. It was as though the list manager
thought the list was now empty and the folder should be closed,
although there were dozens of messages in the ticker list.

UI: Ticker VF. Behaviour
Another, less serious error is this. When I reply to a message
on the ticker, the reply is sent, filtered to the real folder
the original message came from but appears in the ticker VF
threaded to the original. Very odd.

UI: Scroll bars. Annoying
All scroll bars everywhere are using incorrectly calculated
range values. As a result, they allow window content to scroll
further than they should (reported as Space at end of list
etc.). This also means that scroll bars appear when there is no
need for them to be there.

Customisation: Serious omission.
The Enter key is not allowed in the shortcut definition entry
point. This should not be the case. This is especially true
where Ctrl+Enter has behaviours that should be definable.

I confirm, but not completely. I will explain.

At first it seems to happen as you say, not exactly 40K but memory usage
keeps increasing. Now, if instead of connecting when I am viewing some
folder I select an account on the folder tree (so that nothing is viewed
on the message list or message pane) I can send/receive any number of
times with no change at all in memory usage. I have also noticed that
just changing the message I am viewing (selecting a different one on the
message list) does increase memory usage many times.

Hello Michael!

On Saturday, April 30, 2005, 2:27 AM, you wrote:

  That's strange

I should say that I'm using the Default Theme and color scheme. And I
used to have yellow envelopes for unread messages.

Yep, same over here - but the icons _are_ different. For unread mail
the icons is a closed envelope, for read mail the envelope is opened
and a sheet is half pulled out (That's what I see :-) - looks like
 printer-icon for me).

Oh, thanks! Looking closely, I see the same thing. But the faint blue
color and (acceptably) small size caused me to overlook the different
appearance.

I shall have to squint to notice these.

But, it's good to know it's not a bug but a deliberate design change.

I miss the color distinction enormously, however--what a convenience it
was!!

OK - quite nice, but I too liked the difference in color better. It's
easier to see it at a glance instead of having to _think_ about what
icon there is. Maybe the unopened icon can be colored too?

I hope so.

2005-04-30 Thread Mary Bull
Hello Marck!

On Saturday, April 30, 2005, 4:26 AM, you wrote, in part:

 UI: Scroll bars. Annoying
All scroll bars everywhere are using incorrectly calculated
range values. As a result, they allow window content to scroll
further than they should (reported as Space at end of list
etc.). This also means that scroll bars appear when there is no
need for them to be there.

Confirmed. Indeed, very annoying.

I can't test your two Mail Ticker things reported in this message,
since I have no Spam filter (so far, unneeded--I spot fewer than a
dozen Spam messages weekly, and delete them on the Mail Dispatcher)
and I thread by none. Filters are working for me, when replying with
Browse Ticker Nessages window open.

 Customisation: Serious omission.
The Enter key is not allowed in the shortcut definition entry
point. This should not be the case. This is especially true
where Ctrl+Enter has behaviours that should be definable.

Completely agree. I seem to recall that this has been complained of
quite a few times over this beta series, and I sincerely hope it is
going to be rectified.

Even if my recollection is faulty and this is the first report, it
still needs to be fixed!

Re: The Bat! 3.5 Return RC1 is now available

2005-04-30 Thread Alto Speckhardt
Hi all and especially 9Val,

9 The Bat! 3.5 Return RC1 is now available from:
9 http://www.ritlabs.com/en/tbbeta/

I've been browsing on the list for quite a while now but so far
refrained from trying a beta myself because after each release there
seemed to be quite some unresolved bugs. Since the newest version is
called RC I decided to give it a shot.

Gentlemen, no offense, but - it took you twenty betas to come up with
_this_?? In the not even ten minutes I testet I got AVs (in the exact
same place as with the last release version!), the UI showed bugs
(slight, non critical ones to be fair) and, worst of all, the IMAP has
not improved one single scratch!

I set IMAP to five connections and requestet new mail. Four of the
five connections were gone in the blink of an eye, the last one (sync
inbox, the only one that really had work to do) hung as usual. On
watching the line I could witness that as with the previous release
version not one single byte was transfered, TheBat was just sitting
there doing nothing - again, as usual.

I've heard over and over that the problem with IMAP would not be one
of TheBat but with my provider, GMX. This is a lousy excuse for not
being able to hack it. (Sorry, but that is the precise description for
the situation.) Any other IMAP-client I tried (Thunderbird, Opera,
Mulberry) has absolutely no problem with GMX.

Either fix the IMAP or admit failure and remove it. What I've seen
today is no RC, it does hardly warrant a 0.0.0.1 version number
increase!

Highly disappointed that in all the time since 3.0.1.33, RIT did - to
effect - not a darn thing,

Alto

v3.0.9.18 was the best I tried in this series. Not bad at all but it
had problems as I already posted.

A couple have been addressed and seem to work.
However, this RC1 has backslid quite significantly.
I'm now revisited by the problem of auto-filtering working only
sporadically.

I no longer experience reasonably smooth IMAP operations, with their
being frequent unexpected delays with messages being loaded and at
times, requiring reloading for me to see a message body. The same
happens for folders on initially opening them. Quite often, nothing
happens, with my having to select another folder then returning to the
one I originally wanted to browse before it finally loads as it should.

The troubling part is the inconsistency. My worsening problems quite
likely is accompanied by the opposite experience for others in that
things have improved for them.

Re: The Bat! v3.5 RC1 Shutdown problems

2005-04-30 Thread Charlene Ferrara
Hi Peter Ouwehand,

Saturday, April 30, 2005
you let us know -at least in parts- :

Are you using any anti-spam plugin? Mine is known to need some time to
update files when TB is told to shutdown.
No, I don't.

Do you use settings like compress all folders on exit? Can be time
 consuming.
Some folders are set to compress on exit, but here it is done in a few
seconds ( 5 sec)

To my knowledge (...) when commanding Windows to shutdown, it allows
apps something like 30 seconds to close down by themselves. If not
 successful, Windows starts complaining.
Right, but this deadline can be varied. I never changed it although a
hanging app from time to time nags me. Here -and maybe Mike sees the
same- I can reproduce the effect that Windows does not shut down when TB
is running. It seems to have done a new start (without having seen a
BIOS screen or the loading procedure itself) I think that this
description matches best: it looks like I logged off and now Windows is
presenting the welcome screen in expectation of another user to log in.

If I go to shutdown Windows while
The Bat! is running, Windows will not shutdown until I manually
 terminate The Bat!.

Now, with RC1 I see this: Closing a Windows with TB active will solely
terminate TB. The internet connection is still on while TB compresses the
folders and exits just fine. But is seems that my command to shut down would
simply be ignored, I can wait as long as I want. My machine will not stop
running.

Hi Mike,

Friday, April 29, 2005
you let us know -at least in parts- :

To summarize: If TB! is running and I chose to shutdown
Windows from the Start Menu or Task Manager, Windows will abort the
shutdown - some applications will close, but once Windows tries to
close TB! it resumes operation as if no shutdown signal was sent. I
can then either close TB! normally - by closing TB!, or kill it in
Task Manager. Then I will be able to shutdown Windows. This has been
the case with all 3.09.x alpha/betas and remains with 3.5RC1.

A good or even better description of my observation.
But here TB closes fine, just the term signal seems to be
suppressed. I can work on with Windows and write ie this mail :-)

you let us know -at least in parts- :
Things are progressing nicely for the most part. But, when is
the problems with The Bat! preventing Windows from shutting down going
 to be fixed?

Sometimes I think this may be related to TB's refusal to accept a klick on [X]
while CC is busy. I know that this has been reported before

BTW: sometimes TB just pretends to have a background activity running but no
trace of CC is shown. Despite of this, only abort will have an effect.
Neither yes or no will change a thing.

Any further ideas on that?

Hm, if you get the an error log is being generated stuff, it's
usually Microsoft's Dr Watson utility. On my system (XP) it dumps its
error logs in the following location (ok, not the first place anyone

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson

Maybe you've got a similar log dir on your Win2000 system.

Yes, this has been a bug since 1.0, I think. There's something
severely rotten in The Bat's socket code, it sometimes gets 'stuck' on
a connection that actually timed out ages ago. Then nothing helps but
the good old kill from Task Manager... :(

Btw, I think I read something from 9Val about the socket code having
been rewritten; did any of the 3.0.9.x alpha/3.5 rc testers notice any
effects already?

RC1 ghost mail

2005-04-30 Thread Charlene Ferrara
Hello all,

still from time to time mail ticker shows a single unread message from nobody.
-1b shows up in ticker and subject is Dec 99.
Folder maintenance does not clean it up and klicking on MT brings an empty

(30kb)for those who want to look.
Unsatisfying indeed is that I have to close TB to delete the ghost mail, mail
ticker will no stop to run, no matter what else I do.
This happens randomly, some days it happens and some it won't.
I have seen this since the V 3x, I can't remember having seen this earlier.

Both Mike and I have no plugins, for myself i can state that I am

pointed out by saying
Yes, this has been a bug since 1.0, I think.
I noticed that in 1x too but never wasted a thought on it.
I would appreciate a statement on this by one of the developers:
  * why does Windows ignore shutdown command when TB is running?
  * what use is a dialog box (that pops up when you try to terminate TB
with active CC) when 66 percent of the offered options show no
result?
