Hi Peter,

But when pressing ctrl+a to select the WHOLE message text and then
pressing ctrl+ins does NOT work. TB still places the previously selected
text in the clipboard, not the whole message.

   Confirmations?

It is a very old bug. As far as I remember it was reported a few
times, but never got fixed.

Should it only select the whole word when you pass word delimiter? At

While we are at it, quotation marks don't work as word delimiters.

Re: Rework of downloading images GUI

2008-01-16 Thread Peter Gannushkin
Hello Marek,

MM First of all, interface should be similar like in other apps like
MM Firefox/Internet Explorer, so yellow pane (like new Search introduced in
MM 4.0.0.9 alpha) will appear in Preview pane, if message requires downloading
MM external images.

That is a great suggestion. One of the reason to have the pane instead
of the pop-up is that current pop-up often hides the whole message,
hence there is no easy way to see what message needs the images. Not
very convenient.

MM There should be introduction why this pane appeared and buttons/links
MM for downloading images Allow once/Block once and Advanced... for
MM opening URL manager and storing allow/block.

You don't really need Block once button as long as the URLs are not
stacked beyond current message which is already suggested.

MM Suggestions?

I would also add second and third level domains to the list of hosts
to allow downloading / blocking all images for certain subdomains.
E.g. anything from *.amazon.com or *.bbc.co.uk can be allowed while
*.somespamdomain.com can be always blocked.

Other suggestion is to make URL manager folder aware. E.g. never
download any images in Spam folder. Spammers are often using images
from legitimate sources which helps them to get through filters. If
there will be such an option the user would be able to turn on images
only for the few folders he needs like newsletters, etc.

This was a bug of some old versions, but now if you cancel, the

Cancel might not leave them anymore (I was not eager to try since half
of my inbox vanished one day), but the crash/terminate leave the tmp

then to delete them. Would be better if TB! check them itself on start

Hi MAU,

Sometimes, after I clear out the .tmp files and do folder maintenance,
I won't have such error messages either in exiting or starting TB. The
last time it (error message) happened on exiting, I noticed that a
.tmp file had suddenly appeared in the inbox. Generally, the .tmp
files appear in sent, inbox and trash folders, but they don't always
 have such .tmp files.

As I have told you in my previous message, these tmp files are net
created/generated by TB. Again I suspect they are created by your
 antivirus.

That is not true. TB! generates tmp files when it compresses your
folders. They supposed to be deleted after the compression, but often
enough TB! either dies or the process is cancelled by the user. In
either of those cases the files are kept in the mail folders.
Basically they are the pre-compressed copies of the tbb files and are
safe to be deleted unless the tbb files got corrupted. If that happens
you can close TB! and then rename the tmp file back to tbb.

The Bat doesn't leave .tmp files behind if you cancel folder compression,
otherwise I'd have to have a ton of them.

I would say TB! shouldn't leave tmp files behind. Sometimes it does
though. Even worse, sometimes the folders are getting corrupted if you

use compress or never had TB! crashing while compressing, hence never
saw tmp files.

Re: More On TBB and TBI

2007-01-29 Thread Peter Gannushkin
Hi Paul,

PG That is not true. TB! generates tmp files when it compresses your
PG folders. They supposed to be deleted after the compression, but often
PG enough TB! either dies or the process is cancelled by the user. In
PG either of those cases the files are kept in the mail folders.
PG Basically they are the pre-compressed copies of the tbb files and are
PG safe to be deleted unless the tbb files got corrupted. If that happens
PG you can close TB! and then rename the tmp file back to tbb.

I have been using TB since 1998 and have not ever seen a temporary
 file in a message folder.

What exactly is your point?

If you have a large folder with several thousand messages or so open
it in your favorite file manager and run folder compression in the
TB!. You will see the tmp file created while the compression is
running.

Double double-click is still here:

In this release you have to double-click twice to get the effect. As
far as I understand, it happens because first double-click places the

link/address action.

Apparently links don't work at all. POPFile creates headers like:

Double-click on such headers/links worded just fine in 3.0.x. Now it

Hello 9Val,

9 1. Is it unstable?

PG v.3.0.2.5.

9 Currently zero level is 3.60.07 and this version is above zero.

What do you mean by saying zero level?

9 What about downgrade... as I remember you had troubles with russian
9 charsets, Alt-clicking, and speller languages in single hotkey?
9 Work with charsets and Unicode is not finished yet. And we can't
9 freeze it for another half-a-year to be completely done.

Yes, Alt-clicking and speller hot keys are the main things why I
didn't upgrade. Automatic spell checker is an issue too, although not
a great one.

What I think is wrong about TB! development is that while adding new
features the old one are being constantly broken and getting
disappeared. It shouldn't be the case. When the new interface came
along the first thing which should have happened was the
implementation of the current feature set. However it didn't happen
that way. More and more things were introduced after that but still
the basic things were not working properly. At the end you will have
no time at all to fix them since each new feature is a new set of bugs
and problems.

PS Spell checker is totally wrong in the TB! It was OK to have it like
this in 1996 but it is not OK to have it like this now. Even tiny
programs like Semagic have the free multi-language spell checkers
where you can check the text in several languages simultaneously and
download any language file for free.

One show-stopper I forgot to mention. Clickable links are not longer
working in a new message header component. Since internal spam
filtering never worked properly for me, I use POPfile to filter the
spam. Each message gets an extra header with the link to its place in
the POPfile's database. These links do not work any longer in the new
version.

Alt-Click in the message list filters but looses the focus

2005-09-22 Thread Peter Gannushkin
Hi All,

Since the new customizable interface was introduced the Alt-Click in
the message list has a problem. It does filter the messages (e.g.
leaves only the messages by certain sender) but the cursor jumps from
the current message to some random one. It is quite annoying if the
folder is crowded with emails hence it takes extra time to get back to
where you were.

I talked to 9Val about this issue but he cannot reproduce it.

You are right, encoding is the wrong term in this case, I should
have used code page or locale instead. I don't have a problem with
the font. It is the issue with the wrong code page used and therefor
wrong characters are shown. There were several issues like this one in

3.0.2.5 which I use on the other machine has the same problem in the

Re: Updated Beta or Release for Christmas

2004-12-23 Thread Peter Gannushkin
Hi Dierk,

Hi Maxim. Is this like Three Kings Day celebrated in many latin
 countries?

No, no Jan--at least, I think it isn't.

Yes, it is. Three Kings Day (Three Wise Men or the Magi) is a
remnant of older calendars and the original length of the heathen
Feast of Light celebrated from around winter solstice for about two
 weeks.

Well, Orthodox Church does use the Julian calendar. In Russia the
calendar was switched over only after the the coup in 1917. The
official church however refused to adopt it. So you can probably say
that the Three Kings Day is somewhat connected to the old calendar,
however people in the countries Max mentioned celebrate Christmas on
this day and not the Three Kings Day.

Weird LCD monitor bug

Friday, November 8, 2002, you wrote to me:

Not much on at the moment; we are all waiting for the official beta of
 v.2.x.
FG I've been waiting for almost 3 years.. how about you ;-)

4.5 :)

Unfortunately I accidently deleted the e-mail from Max dated April
1998 where he mentioned v.2 for the first time saying that it would be
out soon.

Cleaning attachments (was: New beta version)

2002-10-17 Thread Peter Gannushkin
Hello Alexander,

Even though it seems like it should work, in fact it doesn't.
The result was that I lost a bunch of attachments this way. I didn't
find any particular reason why some attachments were stored in message
bodies after this backup/restore thing and some were not.

Thursday, October 17, 2002, you wrote to me:

PG Is there a way to now clean automatically the attachments which
PG had not been deleted because of this bug ?
AL Yes, fast and rather easy (from my POV)

AL Tools - Backup (only message + attachment, select store external att in
AL body)
AL Delete all files in Attacment dir
AL Tools - Restore
AL Kill dupes in all folders

AL This way only really actual attachment will be in Attachment dir

New (or old?) bug (was: Unfixed major bug with slow loading folders via network)

2002-03-22 Thread Peter Gannushkin

Hello Stefan,

Friday, March 22, 2002, you wrote to me:

MM can I somehow help You? I have many schools and hospitals, which use
MM Pegasus actually and they want to use TB. Is not possible to create debug
MM version for these users to test it and send to You their results? maybe I

ST No. My experience with Novell shows that a developer must be there
ST because the system is too quirky to debug anything remotely. Do you
ST offer teleportation services? ;-) Seriously, I would like to visit
ST Czech Republic to drink a lot of Czech beer and to rest a bit, but it
ST is almost impossible now :-(

You'll be very welcomed here in Prague if you'll finally make it.

BTW, I just reported new (or maybe not so new) bug to bt. It seems
that TB! doesn't restore the current message position if it was
restarted by Windows itself. Please, look at it:

Roadmap (was: RC with degraded IMAP capabilities?)

2002-03-20 Thread Peter Gannushkin

Hello Stefan,

Wednesday, March 20, 2002, you wrote:

ST Proper IMAP4 implementation requires BIG changes in the core code and
ST these changes ARE planned for version 2.

Version 2? You are kidding. There is no version 2 - it's a myth. :-)
TB!'s copyright says 1997-2002, although I think the first betas
arrived in 1996. And I've been hearing about version 2 since Spring of
1998. Four years. Looks like infinity in computer world.

Seriously, it would be really nice to see some sort of development
roadmap. It will stop all these never-ending arguments about
new features and future plans at least.

Re[2]: Known filter issues

Hello Peter,

PG 1. I can copy the filter, but I cannot delete it. If it would be
PG stored in registry or in a text file I could've delete the addiional

PP correct ... but the same behavior is with 'system folders' like 'sent',
PP 'inbox' or even 'inbox known' ...

The thing is that I can copy this filter. I agree that it shouldn't be
possible to delete it, but it also shouldn't be possible to make a
copy of it.

Leave messages on server strange behavior

2001-06-05 Thread Peter Gannushkin

Hello All,

I noticed that this option works pretty weird:

  1. Messages are deleted according on days, but not on hours. It
means that TB! deletes messages at the first mail check after
midnight, but not 24*number_of_days hours after the message was
  created or received.

  2. If the mail was not checked for several days, then TB! will
delete really old messages at the first mail check after midnight of
the next day after the day I started to check mail. For example if I
have this option set to 1 day, and I didn't check mail for a week,
then the day I'll start to check mail TB! won't delete anything from
mail box and I'll have hundreds of messages. But on the next day it
will delete all the messages except ones from that day.

AKL It was really fixed then. I do remember. Can't check at the moment: do
AKL not have the latest TB beta, don't have enough time, sorry.

Yes, it was. I complained about so many times that Stefan finely fixed
it. And now it is here again. Who knows what other fixed bugs
reappeared in recent betas...

BTW, the bug with MIME, IE, TB and wrong encoding is still here too.
It was not ever fixed though.
