Why ?, I still use it for some macro that search for a word at the
beginning of the line and return the end of the line or a default value,
they all look like those 2 ones:

,- [ GreetMemo ]
| %If:'%SETPATTREGEXP="(?is)^Greet (.*?)$"%REGEXPMATCH="%ABOFromMemo"'='':'%-
| Bonjour %ABOFromFirstName,%-
| ':'%-
| %SETPATTREGEXP="(?is)^Greet (.*?)$"%REGEXPMATCH="%ABOFromMemo"'%-
`-
,- [ QuoteStyleMemo ]
| %If:'%SETPATTREGEXP="(?is)^Quote (.*?)$"%REGEXPMATCH="%ABOFromMemo"'='':'%-
| %QInclude="Initiales"%-
| ':'%-
| %SETPATTREGEXP="(?is)^Quote (.*?)$"%REGEXPMATCH="%ABOFromMemo"'%-
`-

I think that with a few more work and some delimiters, we can add
everything we want in this field ;)

Yes, that is a work-around, would have to add %ENCRYPTCOMPLETE. Two
drawbacks, the condition has to be a bit more complicated to allow for
independent signing and encryption. And you couldn't use the Memo
field for other purposes anymore.

Lets see, what I suggest is four independent check fields and two
option buttons:

S/MIME
  sign [ ]
  encrypt [ ]

PGP
  sign [ ]
inline ()
  encrypt [ ]
inline ()

Granted, the check fields could also be radio buttons, but that would
be a bit confusing.

I'd see this as actually enhancing the usability particularly to new
users who may have been chosen TB for its PGP capabilities (yes, there
must be some beside me).

Am I right or did I miss something?

There is a kind of such capability in AB with its Memo field and %ABToMemo
macro. For example, you may insert "PGP" entry to Memo field and then use it
in template with conditional macro like this:

%IF:"%ABToMemo"="PGP":"%NoUseSMIMEUsePGP%SignComplete"

You probably would need a way to differentiate between contacts that
support PGP/MIME and those that only handle inlined PGP.

I always wanted a macro with an "encrypt to" key so I could specify
what key to encrypt to. This would be helpful when the key does not
contain a userID that matched the recipient's e-mail address.

And once again, more than any of these, I'd like to be able to save
decrypted messages.

Hm. My needs for PGP are usually connected to my contacts. That is
there are people I regularly use PGP with an some that I cannot use it
at all (T-Online users). Most folks most of the time have open contact
with me.

Currently I've set up various QTs for different kinds of contacts,
mainly I distinguish between business and private contacts and English
and German ones. T-Online users got their own QTs with the %NOUSEPGP
macro.

When I today decided I want to have all my mail with one specific
contact encrypted I found that I'd have to create a new QT for that.
Not a big deal, but not optimal - this way QTs abound. Then I got the
idea how easy it would be to just check PGP-signing or PGP-encrypting
within an AB entry. This could always be overridden in the message
editor through the Privacy menu.

Most people may only need these options and the Privacy menu, but I
can still imagine some more flexibility with the macros for much more
experienced users.

Lets see what others think and what my own contemplation will bring
about in the next hours/days. I won't put it into the BT before
tomorrow, in case it transpires that my idea is not that good.

This is a neat idea, but I'd prefer the macros way to additional
interface items in this case. There are only few people who use PGP,
and these are probably savvy enough to find the macros. It must be set
up only once, so why not use the macros? Or do you change these
entries often?

I'm afraid, another interface option to sign or encrypt PGP inline or
PGP/MIME or S/MIME might contribute to irritating newbies.
