Well I figured out my problem. It was the bayesIT spam plugin.
Will the Connection centre was hanging I deleted the pulg-in and viola,
 normal operation resumed.

Ah, were it that simple. I don't have any plugins. Heck, on this
version, there aren't plugins. Maybe OpenPGP counts, sort of, but I
can't do much about that.

I am open to suggestions of other spam plug-ins :)

FWIW, I run popfile - no plugin per se - but it's pretty decent. And I
had the connection problem *long* before using popfile.

Mine is different in that it connects and downloads the msgŽs but fails to

There are times that one of the five email accounts I check, will
simply NOT do it's connection thing. I don't know why, it just
 happens.

When that occurs, I am unable to close TB because I get a pop-up
telling me that a task is running and would I like to Abort or quit or
 not quit.

I'm guessing that 'Abort' or 'Delete Task' in the message status dialog
(is that still used?) don't do anything in these cases. They don't for
me.

Well, no matter the selection, TB will never ever close until I use a
task-manager to slay TB in the task table.

I have tried setting Server Timeout to a lot of *seconds* and no
seconds and such. There is no description of what exactly happens with
Server Timeout, under the Account Properties|Transport tab. Anyway, it
 makes no difference either.

This *feature* has been present in TB for a long time as I remember
 it.

Sorry to see it's still in version 3.x. I'm still on a relatively
ancient version, where I see this routinely.

Does anyone else ever see this issue?

And what, if anything, could I be doing wrong to have this happen so
 many times in a week?

What sort of connection do you have to the mailserver? And what is it? I
get problems connecting to a mailserver that's literally down the hall,
running on a Solaris server of some sort. It's running Qpopper (version
4.0.2), apparently.

I've been perusing the list archives for tbudl, tbtech, and tbbeta but
I can't find a solution to the TB! some tasks are active problem.
I've tried setting IMAP servers to disconnect, entering /EXIT from the
command line, looking for the .IPC file, etc. I don't seem to have any
 extraneous temp files.

But I _cannot_ get TB! to shut down. This is very irritating, as when
I do a force quit with Task Manager I lose some of my preference
 settings.

Has anyone found a solid solution to this? Any help appreciated.

I never have. Mind you, I'm still working with a stone-age version of
TB!, but it will regularly hang on the connecting to server phase
(according to the CC). You can press 'Cancel' and 'Abort' all you want,
and no joy. I've just kind of learned to live with it.

HTML Editor will be in V2, in next V1 will be possible to use Windows
editor with proportional fonts and there should be plugin interface for
 another editor too.

I have nothing against The Bat! including HTML support, except for the
time it takes away from doing more useful things. I understand that for
marketing purposes The Bat! probably needs these ticklist items. I don't
have to like it, but I can understand that people believe that there is
a need for it.

I was volunteering to write the Help article, and had included the
full text of it. Let me know if you want this as RTF for easier
inclusion in forthcoming help files. :)

Further discussion should probably be moved to private conversations or

 Hello TBTECH,

Realizing that this is a TB! list, I'm not sure where to turn for
help. Sorry in Advance for the intrusion...

I'm forced to use MS Lookout 2002 here at work which is networked on an
Exchange server. My problem is that my copy of Outlook is making up
additional personal folders in the folder list. There are now 17 of
these personal folders and I cannot delete them. I can't access them
or anything. If I single click on one it will give me an address
 similar to this:
 FF0038A1BB1005E5101AA1BB08002B2A56C20001039979E9A9C58545859318ABB215FB22
and it will give me a window that says Unable to open folder...

All I want to do is delete these if possible. I know they are on my
machine and not the Exchange server, because if I log onto my mail on
another machine the folders are not there.

Any help or guidance to a M$ Outlook mailing list would be
appreciated. I took a look at the Publicly Accessible MLs and there
are two M$ Outlook lists there, both of which appear very inactive.

 Thanks again

If I remember correctly, the correct sequence to correct any misbehavior
in a MS product is:
1) Retry
2) Reboot
3) Reinstall
4) Reformat
5) Redhat

You appear to be on step 3.

More seriously, you may want to check where Lookout! is attempting to
read from. Check if it exists, isn't read-only, permissions (our
favorite here) etc.

 Hello TBTECH,

I am running Win 98 and will be 'upgrading' to Win 2K Pro soon.

I run a neat little batch file to back-up the registry, (got from someone
on this list), and it works great. Last time I re-formatted all I needed
to do was double click on it.

Will the registry back-up work the same with Win 2K pro? What I mean is
will the Win 98 back-up work for the Win 2K Pro OS?

 The Bat! Version 1.62/Beta3
 under Windows 98 4.10 Build A

I'm sure that somebody will correct me, but when I last moved to a new
box, all that I did was to have The Bat! do a full backup, install on
the new machine, and do a restore. No registry mucking required, and all
my templates, filters, etc. came over.

B I dont want use temp.txt file for that.
RO Why not?

I want send each file separate, as attachment. So I use this command:
 (1 line)

 FOR %x in (d:\fotos\babulke_posli\*.jpg) do c:\Program Files\The
 Bat!\thebat.exe /MAILTO=Mojej Babulke [EMAIL PROTECTED];TEXT=fotka;SUBJECT=Fotecka
%@filename[%x];QUEUE;ATTACH=%x

So, I want put in body also name of attachment :)

For things like this, I highly recommend using something like Blat:
http://www.interlog.com/~tcharron/blat.html

Command line mailer, SMTP only, I think. And it's only one letter away
from Bat, so it can't be too bad...

oops, never mind I FOUND it!! the OTHER tab in addressbook. I will
 have to investigate this, thanks!

Or more simply, click the checkbox in the column Favourite in the
addressbook; no need to get the properties of the individual address.

  thanks Herb,
all I had to do was go to the addressbook and -VIEW-COLUMNS and add
it. It wasn't there, but it is now!

That column has been there so long on mine, I didn't realize that it
wasn't ordinarily. Glad to be of help, though.

Anyone have any really aggressive spam filters set up in the
 bat?

Yes.

I think there's an item in the FAQ about this. The short version is,
discard (or mark for review) things that aren't explicitly to you or
from a known sender (or mailing list). I personally also discard all
html mail - that gets rid of a whole bunch of spam. By putting these
filters at the bottom of the stack, I have never lost a mail message
that was important.

How do you set a string in the filters if there is no TO:
address in the email. What do you put in the string field.

use (minus the quotes):
^To: in Kludges, presence=No
make sure you have use regular expressions checked.

Oddly, no mention of this, um, feature in the What's new section that
I find. And now way to turn it off, which means that I invariably hit
the button when I mean to hit minimize. How the heck do I disable this
thing?
