Nowadays, it is rare MTA that generate "temporary failure notice" (as
Sendmail has), most of the time Non Delivery failure only generate when
fatal failure happen.

OK, I will talk to Moderators Team, and will change the setting if they
agree :-)

Hmm...I have idea, how if we change the procedure to automatically
going to vacation for 14-days instead of unsubscribe. I did it for
mahawarman.net list (hosting also on this server). The objective still
remain : save resources.

Yes, and I did make differentiation.

Not really lied on purpose, base on the bounce message I got the
message route/forward to other server (maybe his backup server), and
forgot to recreate the same account (or late to create, while new
messages already coming in).

Seems you have answer your questions : you already know that
myrealbox.com will go to maintenance mode for 2-days or more, why not
change your subcription to digest or set on vacation (the procedure to
do that already mention on Welcome text) ?

There is a lot of bounce for prodigy.net.mx in the past, so list server
bounce watcher has unsubscribe it automatically. Why we must force
membership to stay, while we can not distribute any single message to
them, it is a waste of resources.

> In any case, let us know what you decide.

I will not change anything for now, the bounce watcher already in place
since beginning we use Listar (even while we still using MDaemon long
time ago), last week we just make it more accurate while detect the
bouncing, that's all.

TBUDL having 20 bounce limit, and 3-days reset instead of 15
bounce/7-days. Day by day I will evaluate if any changes needed I will
change it.

Yeah, bandwidth waste is my concern, any single bounce will reroute to
me, Marck and Flash.

Correct.
In the past bounce message from myrealbox.com not recognize well by
Listar bounce watcher, now it work perfectly as it should.

If listar bounce watcher receive more than 15 bounce from specific
address, she will unsubscribe automatically.
The counter will reset to 0 (zero) if these conditions occurs :

1. Any successful delivery.
2. No list traffic in 7-days (means no bounce at all) :-)

Yeah..yeah got your point after local test here :-)

My MDaemon support either MD5 and Plain SMTPAUth (MD5 as default),
even I set Plain Auth on TB! it's still use MD5 when handshake with my
MDaemon. If sending using other mailer which support plain SMTPAuth
only, my MDaemon response using plain instead of MD5 (will try other
mailer if there is having different behaviour).

Other test with my Exim Server (this list), it's support Plain
SMTPAuth only, if I set MD5 on TB! my Exim yelling and no problem if I
set Plain Auth in TB!.

You are using Mailscan socket layer base (I myself prefer the
queue-base), IMHO there is relation to SMTPAuthentication. It just
sniffing port 25 for virus filtering, the effect only slow down the
connection for a while, so on many case we need to raise time out
timer either on client or server side.

I don't remember if there is timer setting on MercuryS, but you might
check and if exist, please raise the timer time out.

Have you seen RFC-822 header (Shift-Ctrl-K) yet ?
Normaly all ip address of MTA-sender to your MTA (as recipient) will
listed on header, but there is some limitation :
- Some MTA having facility to hide the ip address, only MTA-recipient
knows the ip addresses through his logs.
- Some List Engine strip out message flow from original sender to list
  server.

I worked on it with Allie, using 3rd party (freeware) utilities,
sometimes ago, but we didn't get it work :-(
But early this week I got some idea, so I will continue the trial
(actually I work it for MDaemon but I think it can be utilize on TB!
too because TB! having "run external program" action on the Filter).
If anyone interest and wish to join (at least the idea), I or Allie
can post what we have been tried (on TBBETA or TBTECH more approprite,
I think).

Oops I forgot I have discuss with Marck D. Pearlstone and David

I think *stripe out* is not good choise, HTML conversion is more
approprite just like Listar did (in Listar term we called "humanize
HTML", I like this term ^_^). With stripe out we will lose the text on
pure HTML message.

List Administrator Note

2001-01-31 Thread Syafril Hermansyah

Hello All,

This message to clarify some confusing after the ListServer activate
Reverse Lookup Anti Spamming.

Currently I have activated "domain name checking" lookup only, either
the sender/poster or HOST sender (as claim on HELO/EHLO command), if
failed the ListServer will reject (terminate the connection at once).

Even I activate Reverse Lookup and MAPS-RBL/ORBS (open relay) checking,
but if this checking will *not* reject the message, only make a
note/flag.

If ListServer failed to Reverse Lookup sender ip address, you will see
(additional) header as follow :
X-Lookup-Warning: reverse lookup on original sender failed

And, if ListServer find that your MailServer listed on MAPS-RBL/ORBS,
you will see something like this :
X-RBL-Warning: mail from xx.xx.xx.xx refused by ORBS, see http://www.orbs.org

Re: Non Resolvable addresses

2001-01-31 Thread Syafril Hermansyah

Hello Jamie Dainton [Bat],

Responding your mail on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at 12:04:12 GMT
+ (which was 31/01/2001 19:04 GMT +0700 where you think I live) this
is my answer inline your quote:

JDB> After the V2 spoof have all non resolvable addresses been banned.

Correct, but not fully block at the moment, the listserver only banned
if sender HOST not using Real Domain or Sender Domain not real
(resolvable).

JDB> It seems that way as no mails from my smtp server (dynamic ip,
JDB> homemade).

Ask your ISP to give PTR record on each Dial Up number as example (get
from Nick Andriash posting) :
cr524204-a.rchmd1.bc.wave.home.com ([24.113.41.161])
or from Peter Steiner :
pop-ls-9-5-1-dialup-3.freesurf.ch (HELO 194.230.245.3)

those header mentioned that they use Dial Up, but the ip address
resolvable.

Other alternative, you can relay through your ISP SMTP server as now.

JDB> Seem to get through anymore.

As I mentioned above, the list only block for "Domain Name", while PTR
record (if not resolvable) still get through (but with note/flags
X-Lookup-Warning).

JDB> I thought the plan was just to block localhost.localdomain so my
JDB> athlon.dainton would get through.

Use your complete domain dainton.org.uk instead of athlon.dainton, I
guess it will pass by the server.

MDP> has anything to do with it? Syafril - is there something going wrong
MDP> in MDaemon when this header is inserted?

I was *not* activate this (insert X-Lookup-Warning header) on
dutaint.com, only dutaint.co.id use this. But, indeed, I activated
Reverse Lookup for checking domain name and host of sender, while
MAPS-RBL check only give a "flag header" if sender MTA listed on
MAPS-RBL or ORBS.

Anyone else see that header too ?

Re: Big useless TBUDL headers and messages...

2001-01-20 Thread Syafril Hermansyah

Hello Marck D. Pearlstone,

On Sat, 20 Jan 2001 at 11:37:31 GMT +(which was 1/21/2001 6:37 PM
where you think I live) you told to the list :

[ ... ]

MDP> I believe that Lija's point is that these headers are somewhat
MDP> verbose, redundant and represent a theft of bandwidth, whether
MDP> they are visible or not. And, do you know, I actually agree with
MDP> (him?).

BC>> I suspect Marck will be shooting this horse very soon.

MDP> I am shooting the horse indeed, but only on TBUDL and not before
MDP> saying that Lija has my full sympathy and I will be discussing
MDP> the removal of these headers with Syafril as soon as he emerges.
MDP> Their purpose is moot since TB doesn't support these list traffic
MDP> headers.

I just on-line (sorry in normal I was not on-line on Saturday/Sunday
unless my pager beep due Server problem or Marck Wake Up me).

Some part of the header for MTA Recipient purpose (especially for
Postmaster) and me as List Manager just in case the delivering of the
messages failed. When the message from the listserver distribute to
final recipient, not always going stright to final MTA, sometimes goes
first to Relayer (for example bigfoot account do like this).

Some MTA tend to truncated the message content while the message
header keep intact for further analysis or tracing who responsible
when Delivery of message failed and to whom address the mail to fix
the problem, if not they will treat the message came from the spammer
(UCE) and make blocking (from ListServer POV, blocking is waste the
bandwith resources :-().

Other part of headers is for our (ListServer) purpose.

I can truncate some headers, such as Original Sender Route to this
listserver such EZMLM ListServer did, but the weakness of this
approach, if there is problem on message Delivery or others (such as
Message Duplicating by Open Relay MTA etc), I the only one can find
out the real problem (by reading ListServer logs), it's very hurt due
the logs size sometimes more than 200 MB size/day and I am not always
online. With current conditions, all list member can help me or Marck
to find out what's the real problem.

MDP> Having said that, they are part of a standard. I'm not sure if
MDP> it's RFC - anyone know? If so, please reply on TBTECH only.

RFC-2369, we discussed this long time ago on TBBETA list.

Unfortunately our TB not supported this RFC yet, so TB can't utilize
those kind of header (Pegasus is one of the mailer that support
RFC-2369, if member of this list using Pegasus 3.x, he/she knows what
I meant).

Perhaps when you send the message, your membership just updated, so
while listserver process, your address not carry with it. My listserver
very busy lately, that's why I will make mirror when the time permit.
