Well actually Thomas, using 'the' definite article before an abstract noun,
might be considered grammatically incorrect in some circles - unless of
course it was used 'appropriately' as a metaphor. Sticking 'an' indefinite
article before the non-concrete noun would move the sentence slightly closer
to grammatical nirvana. Furthermore, as 'the' definite article has been used
in this case, one might also consider changing the other *case*, that of
'ideal world'. 'Ideal World' is also a proper noun in this context, and
therefore should have capitalised first letters..as should 'Virtual
Ticker (tm)'. Furthermore, and furthermore (uhumm), the 'verb' *will* is not
'associated' with 'ideal world'. 'virtual folder is the subject of the verb
agreement. The subject and predicate being Virtual Folder *will*,
respectively, not Ideal World *will*. However, I get your point! :)

Creating a Mailing List ?

2000-03-31 Thread Nick Andriash

I must be suffering some kind of brain infarct, but for the life of me, I
can't see how to create a simple Mailing List, with only two addresses,
and have both those addresses in the BCC field, with the To: field showing
only ABC List.

I've created the Mailing List, and can see where I can enter the comma
separated addresses, but in the Properties section, I can't see where I
can allocate those addresses to the BCC field. I can only do that on an
individual message basis.

Can some kind soul point me in the right direction. Thanks so much...

I think you cannot in this way. But you could distribute messages
using templates with macros like
%TO="Undisclosed-Recipient:;"
%BCC="listname list"

But I must admit that I'm not using TB as mailing list server and just
thinking out loudly :)

ot: pleading to the knowledgeable users

2000-03-31 Thread Tom Plunket

Somewhat (or completely) off-topic, I apologize, but this is the best
group for me to ask. Please PLEASE respond directly to me since I
don't know if the moderators would like lots of traffic on this one.

I find myself in need of a secure-news newsreader. Something that
supports the snews protocol, that is. I've used Agent for years, and
the only clients that I know of presently are LookOut and Netscrape.
I'd rather not install either of the behemoths on my computer if I can
help it...

Anyone have or know of any alternatives?

thanks,
-tom!

Sure, go see the how-to on setting up TB as a mailing list server at:
http://www.pcwize.com/thebat/mailing_lists.shtml it's also in the TB
Help file under Message Filtering / TB as a mailing list server, but I
haven't checked to see if it is the latest version. The one on the web
site is however.

Thanks Leif..that page explains how to set up a discussion list, but
not how to set up an ordinary mailing list where you want the
recipients' names suppressed and just the name of the list displayed.
The only way I have been able to do it is to put my own address in the
TO line and put everyone else's in the BCC section. This is not the
perfect solution, however, as I do not want an extra copy coming back
to myself.

What I did, was set up a new Contact with the name I wanted to use, but
didn't associate any E-Mail addresses with it in the Address Book. I
then created an Address Book template... kept the To: line empty, and
put in comma separated addresses in the BCC: field. It seemed to send
OK, but I'm just waiting for word back from the recipients to see if
everyone received the test message properly.

The only drawback to this of course, is always having to open the
address book just to send a message to that List.
