First of all, if you want to filter read messages, you should use
"Read messages" filters instead of "Replied messages" filters. The
latter are for messages to which you reply.

  Alternatives:
  [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recipient = yes
  [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recipient = yes
  [EMAIL PROTECTED] sender = yes

This alternative rule works only when a message's recipient is both
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" AND "[EMAIL PROTECTED]". I doubt that's what you
want.

Jan responds: Quite right, this is *not* what I want.
However, I was thinking two things when I did that so
let me explain hopefully you will tell me what I

So what's the better way to accomplish this, please?

Re: Filter and Copying

I have been trying to figure out how to create a filter which could
'copy' the message to a hold folder. Once this is done it would
allow normal filtering on down the line.

First and foremost, I would recommend checking out the FAQ on
filtering available at http://www.silverstones.com/TheBat/Filtering.html
There is a great tutorial there that can help you get started.

Now if I understand you correctly, you want a copy of the message put
in your hold folder, and the Inbox copy should be processed by the
rest of the filters, correct?

If so, set the source and destination folders to be your Inbox. Then
under the actions tab select Copy to folder and choose the folder.
Next, under the Options tab, select "Continue Processing..."

This should do the trick. If you continue to have problems, please
post what you've tried and what errors (unexpected actions, etc.)
you're getting. Also, please note that the order of filters is very
important.

You are right. However, in the Alternatives, When you add sets
clicking on the "add set" button, they are all "OR'ed". But: If you
add the conditions by clicking on Alt-Ins (try it out and see the
difference0, then the conditions within one set are "AND'ed" to each
other, while the whole set is "OR'ed" to the rest of the sets.

So, are the three values you describe above in the same set under the
Alternatives tab? Then they have to be all true for this set to return
the value True. If they are in seperate sets, then at least one of
them needs to be true.

HTH.

Re: what's wroing with my reply filter?

2000-09-27 Thread Januk Aggarwal

Hello Jan,

On Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at 22:53:47 GMT -0400 (which was 7:53 PM
where I live) witnesses say Jan Rifkinson typed:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] etc. while multiple Rules values are
"and" values. Where am I confused?

You're almost there. The alternate *sets* are connected by OR's, but
each set can have AND connections within it. (Confused?)

So you have

Set 1 (Main Set)
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recipient = yes
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Kludges = yes

Set 2 (Alternative)
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recipient = yes
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recipient = yes
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] sender = yes

So you've specified the logic as follows:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a Recipient AND [EMAIL PROTECTED] is in the Headers
OR
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a Recipient AND [EMAIL PROTECTED] is a Recipient AND
  [EMAIL PROTECTED] is the sender.

Add another 2 sets under the alternatives tab and change Set 2 to
look like this:

Set 2: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recipient = yes

Set 3: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recipient = yes

Set 4: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sender = yes

So now the logic is:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a Recipient AND [EMAIL PROTECTED] is in the Headers
 OR
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a Recipient
 OR
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a Recipient
 OR
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is the sender.

Does that help clear things up a little?

Alex has explained the problem before in more detail. He frequently
changes views (From the view menu and the associated keyboard
shortcuts). When you switch from one view to another and then back,
TB goes to default sizes. His point is that these settings should be
sticky. Someone else (sorry, I can't remember who) pointed out, this
just means changing initialisation constants to user definable
variables. The values are stored somewhere anyway, so there should
be no additional coding required, just a minor change.

Alex: When you mention this problem, perhaps you could be more
specific. It seems most people (myself included) think you are
referring to stickiness between shutdown and startup of TB. In this
 respect the settings are sticky.
