Pain in the ...

Hello Jason,

I can't understand why this particular feature is driving you so nuts
that you want to bypass all the other improvements in the new version.
But it is your choice:
To downgrade simply delete the files in the program folder of TheBat
(not your data files) (you can copy it to some place else so you
have a backup if something goes wrong) and then reinstall the old
version.
I think this should work. But there might be one problem (hence the
backup before): the old version might have problems with some settings
files (like filters etc).

So: backup everything and then try it.

Regards

OK, so can anyone tell me how to downgrade to a version that doesn't
have this "feature", because I simply can't work like this any more. I
was hoping there was a way to disable it, but since there doesn't seem
to be, I've got to either downgrade or move away from TB because I

This is what I've had set up forever - the problem with it is with
this new version I just installed (I was previously running v1.41),
when any of those columns are hidden, this little "help" box pops up
telling me the info that was in those hidden columns. The problem is,
if I wanted to know that info, I wouldn't have hidden the columns in

Then may I suggest exporting the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT]
branch from from your registry and send it to RIT for further
debugging? The various "history" entries (most recently used "To"
recipients, etc.) have been removed from registry (now stored in a
file), so there's should be no privacy concerns. (Unless, of course,
disclosing where you store your mail and your various window
settings, etc. concern you. Please review the .reg file before
sending it.)

Your email address indicate you're from Austria, right? My best
guess is in your registry there are high ASCII character(s) stored
in places where TB didn't anticipate, or other values out of
expected ranges. Do you have mail directory names with high ASCII
characters?

Hi Fusiontunes,
I agree completely. I use the mail ticker all the time. The main
program stays minimized in the tray, except for maintenance sessions.
I would also like to see the right click menu for the tray icon, have
the option of calling up the ticker.
My family uses this computer and hides the ticker. I have to bring up
the main program click options/mail ticker/show automatically then
minimize the program. One click in the menu would be much nicer.
The delete message is one that is really needed.

Lost all Inbox Mail/Norton

2000-12-16 Thread Patricia Barth

I just lost my entire inbox mail (over 300 messages) after deleting
.tmp files in Norton when it detected the kakworm virus. Is there any
way to recover these messages? The total number of messages shows a
discrepancy about the size of what I lost.

create new msg icon non-functional

2000-12-16 Thread Jan Rifkinson

Hello BatListers,

When I try to use the menu icon for creating a new msg, nothing
happens. If I try to access a particular group by using the down
triangle next to the create mail icon, the graphic remains
depressed but nothing happens. Then I notice that the folder
templates cease to work. The method I've used to create this post
was to enter my address book, choose a group, select a particular
entry & CTrl-Enter. Then the template worked.

Is this a problem with v1.48 perhaps?

Thank you.

mass mailer question

2000-12-16 Thread Jan Rifkinson

Hello BatListers,

What does adding favorites to a mass mail address book do? I
created a new address book, created a special template, added all
the entries to this special address book to favorites & can't see
any difference when I try to create a new msg or a new mass
   mailing.

Thank you.

The Bat! - suggestions - quoting sigs after replying with F4.

2000-12-16 Thread Krzysztof J. Trybowski

Hello The Bat! developers,

  I'm using The Bat! Version 1.48 Beta/11
  Serial Number 4FF098A9
under Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Dodatek Service Pack. 1.

There are some features I would like to see in your program:

Then I mark some text and hit F4 to have it quoted in a message,
I'd like TB to ignore the "-- " signature delimiter. This is quite
obvious: if I mark the text, then I want *exactly* this to be
quoted - this is my decision, not TB's one!

This is a long story. I don't want to go into too much detail, but we
tried a lot of times to work together with the sir from the "other"

I think Jason was talking about the columns in the folder tree pane
(showing unread msg and total msg counts respectively).

If I'm right. No, you can't remove them. You may, however, adjust
their column width to 0, or adjust your folder pane width to hide
those columns. (I adjust mine to hide the total msg counts, showing
only unread msg counts.)

Yes, TB now uses only one registry tree. The one under HKLM has been
abandoned. TB doesn't seem to remove it, however, so some user would
still see it in their registry.

Marck D.P., are you reading this? Any chance a full list of TB support
lists will be included on the FAQ page, by language?

(I love to give you additional work for the weekends. I hope I can come
up with something for next weekend, too. Still working on it, though.)

It's tough, indeed. I suspected it's a driver problem because
there's no code in TB (as far as I could imagine) that could
possibly scramble a screen to that degree. TB is a "high level"
application (by which I mean one that doesn't deal with system stuff
directly) developed with Delphi (an RAD environment) of which the
language is Pascal (a relatively high-level language). I don't think
TB would deal with any display issue by itself, but would rather
call functions provided by Delphi or Windows, which in turn relies
on the driver.

That being said, I have to admit I'm just a very inexperienced
amateur programmer who knows very little. So I'm very likely to be
wrong.

Just curious, why are there two *competing* German lists? They
couldn't get along with each other? Or is it because they're set up
by competing TB distributors?

Just go to Account/Properties/Templates and create a quick template.
Be sure to check the "Use for new messages/Mass mailing" options for
the template. Then, suddenly, you have to new submenus in the address
book window's file menu, where you can create a new mail or a mass
mailing from the quick template.

Goto Account, Properties, Templates, Edit Quick Templates. Create a new
one, which you would like to use for mass mailing. On top of the template
editor you will find a checkbox which says: Use for New Messages/Mass
mailing. Save, leave menu.
Goto AB, File and you will find two additional options: New message and
Mass mailing. These are cascaded menu items: click on one of them and you
will find the templates which may be used for mass mailing. All the rest
should be self-explainable (does this word exist in English? I'm not

Yes, but there are solutions:

  o Type the name and hit Ctrl+ + or Ctrl+ -

o Don't type the name but the recipient's handle. As soon as you
move to the next field, the handle is replaced by the recipient's

Out of Memory

Hallo,

today I had the problem, that the Inbox of one account could not be purged
or compressed because of an "out if memory"-error. I moved all messages to
a new folder, but I always got the error-message. So I made the "Inbox" a
subfolder by moving it with CRTL+ALT+MOUSE into any folder. In this case I
was able to delete the Inbox. I created a new folder named Inbox and moved
all messages back into this folder.

I don't know what had happened, but I know how to solve ... ;-)
