It took me over a year, but I finally decided to go strictly with AB
Templates after having been a fan and defender of Folder level templates.
Perhaps in time I can get used to QT's, but at present I accomplish the
very same thing with my Templates Folder. :o)

Sorry for such a huge quantity of numbers.

One example - messages received at one session:
#1
Subject: Where'd my message indicator go?
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
#2
Subject: Re: Where'd my message indicator go?
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

#3
Subject: Re: Where'd my message indicator go?
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
In-Reply-To:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Here messages are in the same thread

The other example - messages received at different sessions:
#1

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
#2
Subject: Re: Reformat hard drive

References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
#3
Subject: Re: Reformat hard drive
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
In-Reply-To:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
And here #1 stands alone and #2 and #3 are in the thread

Actually, I don't see any false logic.

One more thing to viewing messages in threads.
Trying to find the best way to do it I've noticed that when I check
View By Reference sometimes I get in the same thread messages with
different subjects, let alone those Message-ID's, In-Reply-To's, References.

I'm thinking of a kind of bug.
Thank you any way :)

Melissa, most will do it by using two separate filters. The very last
filter in your list should be labelled SPAM, and with that you do this:

Strings: e
Location: Anywhere
Presence: Yes
Move To: Trash

The second to last filter is where you filter anything that has your
address in it, and you can name it PERSONAL. Here you list all your
addresses under Strings (only one though on the first tab, and the rest go
under Alernatives/Add Set because it provides the "or" argument) as the
Recipient, and leave the messages in the Inbox.

After a while, if you feel confident that it's truly only scum sucking
spam that is being filtered by your SPAM filter, then you can add "Delete
Message" to the filter under the Actions tab. :o)

Spam filtering

Hello,

Is there any way to write filtering rules to only allow mail addressed to
specific email addresses, and all others to be completely deleted - from

I'm trying to figure out a good way to stop all the spam that arrives not
even addressed to any of my email addresses (how does that happen,
anyway?). It's bad enough trying to keep up with spam that somehow has my
correct addresses, but it seems absurd that all this other stuff can get
through at all.

I'm new to using The Bat!, so perhaps I just haven't been able to find the
filter that can do this.

Any ideas?

Re: Continue Processing?

Hi Brandt,
On Thu, 24 May 2001, at 11:03:38 -0700 you wrote:

B> Could someone explain the continue processing flag in the

The sorting office works the following way: a new message is
tested if it matches any of the criteria in the subsequent rules.
If a match is found, the action of that rule is executed, *the
comparison aborts and continues with the next message*. That is
the point where 'continue processing ...' jumps in.

There might be a situation where you want to perform several
actions on one message. Let's say, you want all your business
mails in the colour group 'business' and you want to sort them
according to their content into the folders 'support product A'
and 'support product B' (sorry, couldn't find a better example).
You can now create a filter that only marks your business mails
with the colour group. Activate 'continue processing ...' for
that rule. Below this one, you create two rules to sort these
mails into the correct folders. This can only work if the
processing is not stopped after the colour group rule.

Of course, you can also achieve the same thing in only two rules
if you apply the colour group in the sorting rules, but it's only
an example, it was not built to make any sense :-) I hope I made
myself clear.

Set this switch if you want the to continue processing the next filter
once this filter has been triggered. Normally, If The Bat! finds a
match it will stop the filtering process at that point. This switch is
often used in conjunction with a non-moving filter - one which
specifies the same source folder as destination folder. For instance,
such a filter can be used to set the Colour Group of a message before
moving it to another folder.

I suppose you have enabled 'Auto format' in the editor

the solution is just as simple: Hit CTRL+SHIFT+F in the quick

Aha! This is because the QT editor obeys the message editor settings

that out of the way.

Rob, I too am on a number of Mailing Lists that either do not have a
ReplyTo header, or the original Author's name is in the header. What I am
forced to do is create a Folder Level reply template. As an example:

QT's can be used across accounts. so, when you want to change any
template (that you have defined through a QT) you make your changes in
the QT and off you go.

The only thing used in your account/folder/AB templates is the
%QINCLUDE macro with appropriate handle as an argument.

> By the way, it seems that I can't change the subject

I use QT's for mass mailings with the macro %SUBJECT, which alters the
subject line to the argument I define after it.

> I still can't believe that the authors really thought

> option to change them !!!

Well, I don't think they think that. You *can* alter all templates on
all levels (account, folder, AB). What you can't - and what could be a
good feature, I'm not sure - is change your template in on place for
all levels. Actually after having written this, I don't think that it
would be a good feature. Additionally it is already implemented
through QT's - if one likes them or not, doesn't really matter.

Don't you have to customise the templates for every account you create

%QINCLUDE="XX" - easier than it is to edit the whole thing over and

S> isn't this stupid waste of time for next many years to come?

No. If you believe that then why are you wasting your time changing
the templates from the default ones to start with? Quick Templates
make the whole thing sensible, not stupid.

I don't understand your criticism. A quick template is the same as an
ordinary template but stored in an more accessible and easy to use
form.

Why don't you just open your Text Editor and create one Template each for
New Message, Reply, etc., then save them as "New Message.txt" and
"Reply.txt", etc. Now use the %INCLUDE Macro under "Include Template File"
for each Account. That way, you are only dealing with two files that you
can change whenever you want, and it will affect the New Message and Reply
Templates for every Account.

I don't like QT's either and find them very difficult to work with. For
some reason, the QT likes to keep all macros on the same line, because
every time I want to put a different macro on a separate line, the cursor
immediately jumps up to the line above. I just gave up on them, and found
it easier and less frustrating to just create two Templates. I don't see
the value in QT's over using Template Files, especially considering their
quirkiness.

%Replyto sets the Reply-To header in your outgoing mail.

what you want can be achieved by using the %TO macro, because this
will set the TO header in your outgoing mail.

Usage:

%TO="" %TO="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

The first %TO="" clears the TO field from any other recipient that
might be in there.

If you turn the visibility of the "Reply-To" header on in the message editor
(when writing a message, not reading!) you'll see what "%REPLYTO=''"-macro
does.

The (IMHO) best way for your "problem" is: a separate folder for the mails
from this list and a folder-template with a

%TO=""%TO="List <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>"

in it in the To-Template & ReplyTo-Template.

THanks for this. Is it really the last time ? It
seems to me that I will have to do this "last time
excercise" for every account I create - isn't this
stupid waste of time for next many years to come?
By the way, it seems that I can't change the subject

this ?
I still can't believe that the authors really thought
that everybody will like their templates and left no
option to change them !!!

Re: Filter Mystery

2001-05-24 Thread hysterial

For anyone who's interested, the problem, I think, was that some files
and/or registry items had been moved. It seemed to happen after I had
done some hard drive cleanup with Fix-It Utilities. I re-installed,
and the exact same filter worked beautifully. That was odd. What kind
of external files would The Bat!'s filters rely on? Maybe that wasn't
even the case- I can't be sure.

Welcome back to the fold Graham. Good to see you here. Good to see you
on the road to recovery. It is interesting that the strokes have had

Well said! There are some specific problems with the GPG support
(although I myself have chosen to use it as my privacy tool of choice)
which are best addressed on the Beta discussion list rather than here.

Well, may I respectfully suggest that you use them whether or not you
like them :-)? This is what they're very good for.

Make a quick template that contains your generic template in its
entirety (or one each for New message, Reply and Forward).

No change your five account templates for the *last time* to contain
only '%QINCLUDE="TH"' without the 's and where "TH" is the handle of
the quick template you want to use.

The way the main templates work does not change, but whenever you need
to change the way they look, you only have to change the quick
template once and it changes all five accounts at once.

I know there was a RegEx floating around on the German list. If you
could post it here, it should be easy for Otmar to replace AW with SV,
or other people with their respective abbreviations created by
localised versions of OE.

They always seem to localise this, in Germany you get "AW:". The best
part is, when you reply, you get a subject line starting "Re: AW:".
And when this is replied to from OE it comes back as "AW: AW:". this
can go on forever if one doesn't change the line manually.

Hi,

I have been using TB for 2 years now and have for the last few months after rel 1.52
been
facing a a few problems with attachments.

1. RTF (Rich Text Format) attachments are shown as attachments but actually came as a
part
of the mail with all the 'junk' characters. I then need to copy the same, save it
opening
notepad and rename it as *.rtf. Then I am able to use it. However earlier version I did
not face the same. Has anybody else experienced the same and if so is there a solution
or
is it a bug.

2. Attachments from a particular person who uses Outlook (I pity him) comes to as
message.att and I am unable to open the same. Attachments from his colleagues also
using
outlook are recvd fine. Any ideas ??

Can I change the directory name for the account without specifying its full path?

Hello,

Can I change the directory name for the account without
specifying the full path of such directory?
I name the accounts in a long name, e.g.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and I do not like to have the
directories with the same name. When I try to change
the directory, I have to choose it from available ones
and effectively specify the full path rather than using
only the name of the directory,i.e. I am afraid that if
I reinstall thebat later in a different directory it
will require me to put the account directories in the
same path they were before rather than checking the
home directory of the program.

Thank you
