There were several ways given. You can find the thread at
http://www.mail-archive.com/tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com/thrd2.html, and
then search for "edit."

A way that I suggested is:

1. Redirect the message to yourself as follows:

 1.1 Highlight the message in the TheBat! message window.

 1.2 Choose Message -> Re-direct.

 1.3 Put your email address on the "To:" line.

2. Edit the message as you would any message.

3. Do NOT send the message, instead save the message in your Outbox
as follows:

 3.1 Close AND Save the message.

5. Delete the original unedited message from your Inbox.

6. Move the redirected, edited message from your Outbox to your
archive folder.

Good luck,

You did. ;-)

As you have noticed, people on this list (myself included) consider
"HTML mail" an oximoron. Mail is mail, and HTML (hypertext mark-up
language) is for hypertext documents, such as web pages. HTML has no
place in email. If you want people here go really up the walls, say
something positive about IncrediMail .

Please ask more about the resons why if you want, but I would suggest
to do that on TBOT rather than here. Maybe you also want to check out

If you use %20 or underscores for spaces, thus reducing legibility,
you don't need to put http:// in front any more. TB does not break
words. Also, it might be easier for Adam to just delete the line
breaks from the original text.

Because it is one word, not because it is a URL.

It is possible to send "HTML mail" with the current version of TB
and the method is explained in the FAQ. This version of TB is
text-centric and many of us appreciate it that way.

Version 2, currently under development is scheduled to include HTML
composition. Many die-hard users are still disgusted with this and

thanks to God, no.

html mails are:

1) very much espensive in space:

   text_only_mail_size * [5..10]= html_mail_without_images;

2) useless ( *highlight* something is very simple in text only);

3) annoying (try to read that nice message written in pink, when your
default background is yellow);

4) philosophically wrong : e-mail was thought to transmit text, ideas, not
layouts, psichedelic advertising, and is not optimized for this;
Afterwards, the major software producers wanted to give the funny
capability to use colors, nice backgrounds, sound for mails, and
others in-useful features, to attract users that aren't focoused on
efficiency of the communication and *respect* of the addressee

anyway, seems that TB2 will have HTML writing support.

I would say from the main parent window/screen. The one that appears
when you click on 'The Bat!' shortcut to start the Bat. This one
typically has three panes to it. Not from a child window.

Drag a message from the message list pane, typically at the upper
left. It will be highlighted in blue then. You can scroll the folder
tree first to minimize mouse movement.

MB> I am not doing filters yet. I deal with all my mail from the

Click any Tbudl message, and hold Shift Control F. The 'Create Mail
Filter' window appears. Enter a descriptive name for it. Click on
Sender to Uncheck it. At least for this example. And click on
Recipient to Check it. Click on the button next to 'Move to folder'.
Create a new folder for whatever kind of content you wanted. In this
example, Tbudl messages. Click Ok. And now if your filter looks fine,
click OK again. It will apply on next check mail.

An example like the above will only move mail around. Not kill it.

If you were trying a manual filter, you could try just copying all
your Inbox mail to an empty folder before refiltering. That way you
aren't stuck if some errant filter you forgot about decided to apply
now.

Just a silly question: Did you close TB when you doctored the

Just a thought: I think if your email-address is in the body of the

Depends on what it is you want to set up. If just eMail, check out the
FAQ (http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/howdoi.html). If you want the
Address Book, well, you will have to wait a bit. It is currently in
development - kind of stalled at the moment though... :-(

Re: Delete all messages on server

2002-12-02 Thread Lawrence Johnson
Hello TBUDL,

I wanted to thank Thomas Fernandez for mentioning in passing that
there was a bug in UIDL keeping which causes TB to download messages
already downloaded.

Up till now, I thought I was alone in receiving multiple downloads of
messages. When I brought this to the attention of TB support, I
received an overly condescending response suggesting that it was MY
fault or the fault of my ISP and that if wanted to alleviate MY
problem, I should review and delete messages on the server rather than
download.

This is the first that I have heard that there might be a bug in TB
causing MY problem. If there is such a bug, all the suggested
workarounds are unacceptable responses.

Bizarre! We're using the same OS and the same email software. So, is
the final fault in the browser you use? I use IE or Mozilla (just
started using the CrazyBrowser IE shell).

Only manually, by going to the end of the first line, deleting the end

What good does it do?

Depends on your needs, but the backup function is rather
straightforward:
 Tools -> Backup

GC> Also how do I import my address book from Outlook Express into my
GC> Bat! address book. Can I do this without double entering contacts
GC> if their address is already in my Bat! address book?

Select the entries you want to transfer in OE and export them to
vCard, one at a time, afterwards import them into TB.

GC> What is LDIF format?

LDAP Data Interchange Format, for more info see:
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2849.txt, I found this link by googling
"what is ldif" (that was including the quotation marks)

BTW Your signature delimiter doesn't seem to work. It ought to consist
of dash, dash, space, enter. Probably yours misses the space.

The URL is posted on the bottom of each message. Follow the link, and
at the top of the page you will see a link to the TBUDL FAQ Pages, and
on the first page of the FAQ you will see the question "Is there a
compiled list of keyboard shortcuts?"
