The filter system doesn't use simple wild cards. It does use regular
expressions like:

.*@domainname

.* means one or more of any characters. You'll have to enable the
option 'regular expressions' in the filter options for the above
string to be used as a regular expression.

Of course, you could simply use just domainname.

If you use the simple string 'domainname', TB! will just look for
domainname in the sender address.

Thank you so much. I have been trying things like *domain.com and
variations using * as a wild card, but it's never seemed to work. i
don't know why. I did guess that my mail addy/recipient/presence No
would be a way of blocking or deleting on server and I have that at
the top of my sorting office list. But it doesn't seem to be doing
anything. I'm glad I wasn't as terminally dense as I thought but
I can't understand why it's not working. Can I just ask if the full

ISTM, that what you want is Outlook/Outlook Express ;-)

One of the reasons I changed to TB was precisely because it *didn't*
have a calendar, ng support (for which I use Agent) and all the other
bells and whistles. I *don't* want everything integrated in one client
with a kitchen sink load of extras that have nothing to do with mail
collection, reading and transmission.

VBG> I would like to see better, more versatile support for

Here, I have to agree. I've been using it for 3 months now and I still
can't make a filter that will block a specific domain, a specific
country prefix, anything that isn't addressed to me, etc. And I can't
find any help anywhere that makes any sense to me. And when I asked
people here, no-one replied. So, yes, I'd like a *lot* of help from the
program with filtering so I can stop being drowned every day in spam I
can't block. Templates don't matter quite so much to me as I only
have c. 100 or so people/businesses that I have regular contact with
and I find the templates fairly easy to set up (Yes, I know, I can do
templates so why can't I do filters - I keep asking myself that
question ).

Anyway, it gave me a chance to rant ;)

Would it be Feliz Navidad?

Anyway, a Merry whatever to everyone!

Since we're talking about feature request I've got a few.
Built in calendar with mail scheduling features.
Anniversaries, Birthdays, Holidays, Business...

I would also like to see support for newsgroups which should
be somewhat a standard for mail clients.

I would like to see better, more versatile support for
templates & filters. i.e.

Templates:
Extract information from the body and sort to address book
or to file.
Reply without using default reply address but templates reply
address.
A full quick template window instead of the fixed size.
Instead of one button for all macros it should be much like
the file menu aligned along the top for all macro
categories.

Filters:
Sorting office filters window should not be a fixed size window.
More options in the sense of one filter with check box
options for read, replied, etc...

I got many more Ideas I would love to see implemented but
this was off the top of my head.

Good luck :)

Happy Holidays :)

Feature Request I'd Like To See in "The Bat!"

2002-12-24 Thread Paul Stephen
Hi Everyone...

I mentioned this feature request before, but nobody replied to my
post.

When editing a message I'd like to see the status of:

Auto Format
Auto Wrap
Justify on Auto Wrap

displayed on the bottom of the edit screen where the character/line counter
is shown.

I have to mentally remember that I've pressed Ctrl-Shift-F when I
Auto Format a paragraph and then remember to turn that format option off.

I hope some of you "die hard" BAT! fans will ask the developers to add
this feature into the next release. I've asked, but if they get more
requests perhaps it will get a higher priority.

Perhaps there is some way to accomplish this already. If so,
please tell me.

Nothing. Please wait while I extract foot from mouth. I gave you a bum

mail is scanned. I sent out eicar test virus and NOD didn't react. In my

My experience is that even careful reporters have a very, very difficult
time when reporting technical issues. In this case, what I thought was
significant about the article was not that it was right or wrong, or even
that it listed so few clients. Rather, my reason for forwarding it is that
I think it does correctly reflect the public perceptions about email
clients. It lists the more popular clients and it lists some very
significant requirements that are not being met for the general public.

In effect, it suggests things that TB (and other, modern clients) can focus
on in their marketing literature, to provide clear differentiation from the
market leaders.

It also suggests what they should also focus on in their product development
(to ensure that the relevant capabilities are easy to use, powerful, etc.)

Depending on your anti-virus software you
could have that software delete the msgs
  automatically.

If there is a common denominator such as
address, text line, subject, etc, you
create a TB! filter, inserting the common
information in the appropriate area, i.e.
address, subject, body & under action you
can delete the msg or delete the msg on the

Test your filter so you don't inadvertently

Select a common folder, go to the menu:

Are you using filters to sort the mail to the common folders? If so,
modify the filters to mark the mail read (in the action tab)rather than
doing what I think you are doing in the mail account properties.

"Mark Read" delay in Common Folders.

2002-12-24 Thread John Phillips

Hi Bat! Fans,

I have two isp accounts, both set up to "Mark Read" after "0" seconds;
i.e. immediately.

I also have mainly common folders, but the mail in these takes at
least two seconds to be marked as read. As I skip a lot of
uninteresting (to me) headers, this adds up to a bit of a time waste.

Is this a bug or feature?

Or did I miss a setting somewhere?

I had a problem with the bat freezing on
the network. I took the suggestion of going back
to 1.5 and it workeed like a charm.

Thanks
For your help

(quite)Useless macro function request

2002-12-24 Thread Luigi Rosa
Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to put the number of messages in the
"current" folder in a template macro.

Something like "Your mail has not been answered yet? The feature you
suggested has not been implemented yet? Mybe because I have %HM_MESSAGES
messages pending"

I know, I know, this is quite useless... :-)

Ciao,
Luigi
