Not exactly. With mailfilter you can blacklist and whitelist,

Last but not least it is a command line tool, so you can run it

Address Book

2003-10-13 Thread Steve Thomas
Hello tbudl,

I posted this question a while ago and did not receive any replies.
I would like to try one more time - if anyone has any ideas, they
  would be greatly appreciated.

I use a Palm, and the Palm desktop. To move my addresses to TB, I
do a select all then Export to VCard. Then, I go to the TB
Address book, delete all of the existing addresses (in a dedicated
address book) and import the vcard file. As I do this, the address
book file (palm.adb) grows and grows - it never gets compressed.
Question #1, is there any way to compress the address book file?

When addressing a new message, one must type the first name, then
last name to auto-complete from the address book. I noticed that
there is a setting in the address book called Display name as.
When I import from a vcf file, it is set, by default, at user
defined. If I change that setting to Last, first middle then I
can successfully auto-complete by typing the last name first,
followed by a comma, then first name. However, if I do a select
all then try to change that field, it is greyed-out. Question # 2,
is there a way to globally change the display name as field?

If not, is there any other way to get auto-complete working by
  typing last name first?

Also, I was considering using TB as my primary address book, and
then exporting to Palm. However, Palm cannot recognize a vcf file
exported from TB. And, the csv files are such a pain to deal with
  on a routine basis.

  Anyone?

Try pressing Ctrl-Plus when you want the AB to search and fill.

You could create a group within your personal address book. Then, when
you update, delete that entire group and import the list into a newly
created group with the same name. Frequently defragmenting the disk
would, I assume, take care of the compression issue if you use this
method.

ST Question # 2, is there a way to globally change the display name
ST as field?

ST If not, is there any other way to get auto-complete working by

Don't know the answer to the first part of this question, but, as to
the last part, all I can offer is that my AB is also set to user
defined, the display is set to sort by last name but displays as
firstname first then lastname, and I can--sort of--autocomplete by
last name. What I mean is that, when I start typing a last name in an
address field, the program autocompletes by finishing the last name
and adding the e-mail address. There is no first name. But adding
that is simple enough to do manually.

HOWEVER: there is a problem, if auto-complete is set to include
address history, that adding a first name manually at this point risks
the autocomplete taking over and adding a historical entry that begins
with the same name.

ST Also, I was considering using TB as my primary address book, and
ST then exporting to Palm. However, Palm cannot recognize a vcf file

I think you're doing it the best way you can do it. I had a similar
objective, and handled it pretty much the same way you are.

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your message

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the top

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to which
you're replying, so we know what it is you're referring to, and then
below the quotation, type your response. If you're responding to more

You will answer the mail from a folder.
If you use %FOLDERNAME in your template (it will get the name of the
folder that you were in when you created the answer) you can place
that folder name somewhere in your mail (or mail header) and filter on
that.

I am wondering, how does TB 1.6 behave? How would you specify that the
filter does not execute just anytime, along with all the other
 filters?

You made a manual filter and gave it a hotkey. Then you made sure /not/
to mark manual filters when you refiltered a folder.

And how do you tell a filter not to move messages elsewhere?

Can't do that. What you can do, however, is to simulate it by moving the
filtered messages to the same folder as the source folder

Revise message filter

2003-10-13 Thread rich gregory
Now, if I can only get this filter to delete the one being revised and import the
edited message back into whatever folder it came out of!!

It should be easy to delete the one being revised (filter's original mailbox set to
trash?).

Could the be some way to use a variable for the 'move to' folder?

My Rich Text and Plain Text Viewers show no color. I am using

 the 2.x branch.

It would seem this is the case. I see the text coloured as well, even
though the space is there. Hmmm.

I just got my key for version 2, so I will take a look at it. If it
turns out that this is a difference in version 2, I will report it.

Confirmed as a difference between version 1 and 2.

Well well :) Yep it is great..very clean and pretty much everything I could
want. And I evaluated MANY in my search for an Outlook replacement.

I needed a PIM with a great interface that could show 1/7/30-day views, have a
todo list apart from daily appointments, and be able to take notes of unlimited
size(no 50k limit or something similar). Also a contact book with customizable
fields (I keep logs of phone conversations). This is it. Another is Redbox
organizer but that's twice the size (also has more features, I'll admit). I
didn't want a wimpy program though - it needed to be powerful, and this meets my
requirements very well. A third program which was almost identical in
functionality and interface to WinPIM was Franklin Covey Planning software. The
killer? It was 29 MB. This is 3. Go figure. That one had some philosophical
elements too that I didn't have time to evaluate.

I love the notes feature. No more sticky pads for me. Phone conversation -
number to note down? Takes a second. Random restaurant's name/interesting
article/shopping list/sample cover letters/whatever? Notes again. The search
facility means I can just dump any info into a note and search for it when the
time comes. Organization doesn't matter. It's essential for me now and I really
recommend you explore both the plain text and rich text notes. I use the latter
mostly as it offers window sizes larger than the little plain text ones which
are meant to replace paper post-its. I find those irritating when I'm storing
information for the long term. So far there's no way to set customize a default
size for all plain text notes.

One caveat - the reminder window that pops up has skins that suck. Modifying the
INI files can fix this, as even the other skins available on the website are no
better. The modifications are trivial though.

Cheers,
