This is again a workaround - but it's what I use with some
success.

Instead of restarting SmartBat every time, hide and show it
with your favourite hiding/showing utility.

For me it's powerpro.

This way the time only gets inserted if I ever restart TB -
which is like almost never.

If you are running Windows 2000 or XP, you could use NTFS to prevent
other users from accessing the mail data files. There is also an
option to encrypt the data too.

Hello net5zero,

On 30 October 2003, at 04:19 -0500 you wrote:

Is a none Latin alphabet characters. For example, 8 bit characters are
Cyrillic letters: а, б, в, г, д, е, ё, ж (I don't sure that you are
able to see this letters properly).

nnn> 2. What is the difference between "without changes" and

If set "without changes" then in body of your mail 7-bit symbols and
8-bit symbols will be unchanged. Example:

---
This is 7-bit symbols.
Это 8-bit символы.
---

And if you set "quote-printable" then 7-bit symbols will be unchanged
and 8-bit symbols will be converted as in follow example:

---
This is 7-bit symbols.
=DD=F2=EE 8-bit =F1=E8=EC=E2=EE=EB=FB.
---

Also you can set "64 bit encoding" and then either 7-bit and 8-bit
symbols will be changed in the follow form:

TB has a good hotkey system - so many things I can just tie
to a hotkey natively in TB!.

Compress all folders: I used to be able to do this in one go
with previous versions - but now with the maintenance centre
it's too many keys/clicks -- so PP takes care of that in one
go.

Also, TB has no way to tie hotkeys to move to specific
folders - so PP does that for me too. Quick and useful.

For people who have not used PP and are about to (since it
came up in at least two separate threads) - it's a bit
complicated to use, but like TB! - if you stick with it,
you'll reap substantial rewards.

The file formats are the same, but the folder structure is maintained
in another file now. So if you add/move/delete a folder in one
version, the change will not be refelcted in the other.

> With respect to attachments (in Account Properties), is it better to

That depends on your needs. I get few attachments, and they are
usually not large, so I keep them in the message bodies. If you
regularly receive large attachments and maybe also want to access them
directly with another app, keeping them in a seperate folder makes
sense.

I was spending ages looking for hypens in the original from, but I see
you meant quotes. They aren't needed in the header from what I
remember, but I do notice something else, (unless you miss-typed),
there is no space between the David, and the {LRCUP bit.

This has been noticed, you should change something in the body of the
email, then switching back to the headers doesn't alter the top part,
though this seems a little unusual, you can partially understand why,
if you change the To field, in 1.6 it might not have changed the reply
template properly (at a guess). As another note, the %COMMENTS marco
has changed functionality, I cannot remember what Stefan said it does
now, might be worth skimming over the tbbeta list to see.

Yes, they are needed when there are reserved characters (full-stops)
in the realname part of the email address. Otherwise, what St.Musaic
describes will happen. That's the reason why I put the realname in
quotes (as above), as he tries to do.

Alas, my macro:

Yes. And mostly.

YMMV. This is quite a can of worms. Depends on whom you ask, when you
ask, sunspots, phase of the moon, etc. I *always* keep attachments in
separate folders. I've had too many problems over the years with
corrupted message base files. They aren't frequent, but they're
disastrous when they occur. And trying to parse the database files
with a hex editor is *much* easier if you're looking at straight text
without binary attachments getting in the way.

But, other folks have other opinions and have had different
experiences.

Mark unread - and some scheduler stuff too

2003-10-30 Thread Pekka

Hello Batpeople,

I have looked through the sorting office over and over again but I
can't find a way to mark a message unread with a filter.

Has anyone got a tip? How to mark a message (which is created with the
scheduler) automatically unread when it is directed to a certain
folder? I need a visual confirmation that there's something worth
checking in that folder - playing a sound file is not enough. I can
flag the message or change the colour group but the only way to affect
the appearance of the folder in the folder tree is to mark a message
unread...

And no, I don't want to actually *send* those reminders to myself, not
with a dial-up connection and a tight budget.

Also, when creating a reminder message with the scheduler, there's an
area called "description" where you can type whatever the reminder is
about. At least that's the way I understood it. However, when the
reminder message is created it only says something like "This message
was created at blah blah blah by the scheduler. The event description
follows:"

And after that, nothing. So, where's that description?

And yes, the scheduler's "clock" is off by one hour :-(

Send those reminders to yourself. But first, in Options/Network &
Administration, on the Network tab, select (tick) Allow Local Delivery.
That way, the message will be sent directly to your Inbox or to the
folder your Incoming filter(s) may move it (not dialling up, etc.) and
it will be marked as unread, just like any incoming message.

Hi Pekka,

I don't know anything about the scheduler but I do know that you can
have msg delivered locally, meaning they are "send" from one account to

Once created, a key can only be added to, not changed; therefore, you
must revoke it and create a new key to make any changes.

Hi Pekka,

Try this. Copy the msg to the folder you want the msg to be in with a
filter. When using the copy msg in a filter on "regular" msg's, the msg
is automagicly made unread.

Importing Public keys help with PGP

2003-10-30 Thread Darrin
Thursday, October 30, 2003
2:28:25 PM

Hi,
Im new to this and was reading the help files for PGP and this is what
it reads:
"Add public keys from email messages
A convenient way to get a copy of someone’s public key is to have that person include
it in an email message. When a public key is sent through email, it appears as a block
of text in the body of the message.

If you are using an email application that is not supported by the plug-ins, you can
add the public key to the keyring by following these steps:

Copy the block of text that represents the public key.

Start PGPkeys.

Select Paste from the Edit menu. The Select Keys dialog box appears.

Click Import. The key is imported. "

When I try it I get a pop up that tells me PGP cannot copy keys from
clipboard.

Am I doing it wrong?

Sorry, my apologies to everybody on the list. No, its not a folder

M2 is Opera's new Mail client. Opera is a browser. I used Eudora
before TB but at work I cannot use TB, and its either M2, Mozilla Mail
or (eek!) Outlook Express. So I chose M2. At home I use TB.

In any case, what does it matter to you what e-mail client I am using?

ODATE and OTIME problem?

2003-10-30 Thread Peter Ouwehand
Hello TBUDL ,

From the help file:

ODATE[="format"] (replies and forward) insert the date of the original
message in the long date format (defined by the system's country
settings) or using the format specified by the format parameter

OTIME[="format"] (replies and forward) insert the time of the
original message in the short time format (defined by the system's
country settings) or using the format specified by the format parameter

While reading through some pages about RegEx at
http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/Regex.html and playing around a bit
with the "Historians" example on
http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/RegexPt5.html I'm quite confused...

Using it on a message which has
Date: Fri, 31 Oct 2003 00:27:08 +0100
in the headers, ODATE returns
Friday, October 31, 2003
and OTIME returns
00:27:08 ( [GMT +0100] from the macro )
Now this I can understand.

Using it on another message which has
Date: Thu, 30 Oct 2003 18:20:34 -0500
in the headers, ODATE returns
Friday, October 31, 2003
and OTIME returns
18:20:34 ( [GMT -0500] from the macro )
Now this I don't understand.

As the ODATE/OTIME return-values are placed in the reply, I would
interpret this as: the senders' message was created on Friday
2003-10-31 at 18:20, which would be 18:20 - 00:37 (local time of
arrival at my main-server, located at GMT +0100) = approx 18 hours
ahead of my local time.

GMT referenced date/time is only allowed to have a + or - 12 hour
difference.

It seems ODATE simply uses the OTIME value to calculate the ODATE
value to return, using the local PC-day/date, not taking into account
the GMT offset of the original message.

In my opinion this is quite wrong and, for instance, totally f
up the "Historians" example.

Any opinions / confirmation on this?

FYI: I'm on GMT +0100

It means that the bug causes a blockage when trying to use the
program - you can't get past this point to the next stage of the
function you're trying to perform.

Look for "Content-transfer-encoding: base64" in the kludges.

However, that will match most messages with PGP signatures and
attachments.

For example, this message will be matched because the PGP signature is
in base64.

"incomplete" is probably the nicest thing I've heard anybody call TB's

Filter help with autoresponder

8:06:34 PM

Hi,
Im trying to set up a autoresponder that will include my public pgp
key when requested. I cant seem to get the filters correct to do it. I
set up a response email using the "attachfile" macro and then select
my pgp key but the email goes without any attachment.
Any ideas?
