Macro options

2000-10-08 Thread Charlie Turner (ceejay)

Composed on 08/10/2000, at 14:09 GMT

I've spent some time looking through the TBUDL archive, and
discovered a couple of macro options that I'd not seen
before. I'm beginning to wonder if there might be more macro
options available than are actually listed when hitting the
macro button when composing a template.

 For example I couldn't find the following: %QUOTESTYLE &
%QINCLUDE which are just two macro options I discovered while
going back through the archive. Or have I missed a complete
 section on TB! macro's somewhere?!

Go to: Options-> Editor Preferences-> Select the "Display" tab.
From this window you can change the font, for another fixed width
Font. Hit "Change" button (top right), and select your preferences.
When finished hit "OK" and you've made your changes.

Original message not quoted?

2000-10-02 Thread Charlie Turner (ceejay)

On 02/10/2000, at 22:57

Don't know if anyone can throw any light on why when I attempt to reply to one
particular message the original message is not quoted. Unless that is
I choose to display the RFC-822 headers for the original message!?

I do have %QUOTES in the reply template. When replying to other messages
in the some folder the original message *is* quoted, which confirms to
me that I have no apparent problems with the template.

In case it's relevant here's the header:

Ok, here's something else to think about. My firewall is set up to ask
for permission when any new installation attempts to communicate for
the first time. Every program I've installed since setting up the
firewall has fired this rule and asked for permission, that is all
except oneTB!

Sadly no. I can confirm that TB *still* insists on trying to establish
a dial-up connection. I am as certain as I can be that I've tried just
about every permutation of settings in Network properties.

I am as certain as I can be that is a bug and will report it. It is
worth mentioning, that this bug won't show up for everyone. I believe
this may only happen when the connection is dropped remotely. My
dial-up provider operates a two hour cut off, plus due to over
subscription of this particular service line dropping is a pretty
regular occurrence too. I know what you're going to say change your
provider. Sadly for a number of reasons it's not that simple.

Gotcha! is there no end to the number of keystrokes in TB? :)

Also using "Ctrl Shift -" will only collapse the complete thread if
the highest post in the thread is selected when using this particular
key stroke.

Reading or writing e-mail off-line... hitting an off-line button would
prevent auto-checking of mailboxes. Those with permanent connections
connection (unmetered Telco charges) wouldn't of course worry about
this. Only those who establish intermittent connections would have a
need fro this.

Precisely my point Thomas, I wouldn't have expected it to - but in my
case it does!

I only had my main account properties Networking checked to use
Account Specific Network settings... which could of course be part of
the problem. I've un-checked this option, lets see what happens.

Good point Tony, I really was being picky. I was interrupted part way
through that original message and left out the main reason for sending
it. This point was intended as a prelude to asking how I position the
cursor within quoted text in a reply - now asked in a separate
message.

Good question Paul, I've puzzled over that one too - I bet there's a
key stroke for it. For me a right click menu option to expand/collapse
individual threads would be a nice option.

Thanks Tobias, it looks as though I'm going to have to keep an
eye on things eh. Luckily on-line charges are not going to be a
problem as I pay a flat rate monthly fee. Its more the
inconvenience of having the TB attempting to dial out which
freaks out my auto-dialler when it can't pick up a dial tone.

Cursor postion (&) Netorking settings

Can anyone tell me how/if I can position the cursor precisely where
I want it to appear in the editor window? For example, if I go to my
address book and select an entry; right click> new> message - the
editor window opens with the cursor in the To: header field, why?
I've already selected the addressee from the address book. To
be picky I'd like the cursor precisely where I specify it in the
  respective template

Does anyone else think an on-line/off-line button for the main tool
bar a useful idea. The main reason I ask is I have TB set up to use
Dial-up networking | Use an existing connection when available | No
automatic dial for periodical checking. Trouble is the ISP I use for

difficult re-establishing a connection. I have a couple of accounts
set to check mail boxes every 5 minutes by default, as a result I
have TB trying to establish a connection at the same time as my
auto-dialer. This is despite my default instructions in TB for no
automatic dialing(?) Perhaps I'm misunderstanding this part of TB

  Network properties?

That one's not for me Krister, I'd rather TB team concentrate on
developing their email client to even greater heights. I'd guess most
Bat users fit under the heading of decerning power users, as such I
suspect they would have their preferences regarding a similar spec
newsreader. After years of honing my newsreader filters and regex
rules etc. I now have it precisely the way I want it.
