Well - a part of this request is easy - just go to the filter
and change its destination folder to "Inbox". Then you could put a
filter below that which always matches and moves mails to
"Inbox-Unknown".

I use Ctrl-Right arrow. The only downside is that focus has to be in
either the folder or the message list, and not inside the message body
(where Ctrl-right arrow will just move over words). Ctrl-Right arrow
moves to the next unread message, doing the right thing for me in
threaded and unthreaded views. I think Ctrl-] will work too, and even
in the message body list, but I find it harder to hit. Ctrl
Right-arrow will even advance across folders.

Hi, Mac,

Sounds like Free Agent has not registered itself as a newsreader
available on the system. Take a look at news.software.readers
newsgroup, and I bet you will find the answer to your problems.

However, I personally use XNews for news reading and I like it much
better than FA. It is absolutely free and has great features.

Well, for me for one, the new behavior is much better than the old
one. But that's because I hardly ever move around inside a mail
message that I am reading using the keyboard, and I do go from unread
message to unread message all the time, and the focus ends up inside
the message window sometimes. I love the new shortcut - much easier to
hit for me than Ctrl-].

I have this exact setup also and found the same problem. I believe
that it happens because the "delete messages when emptying trash"
works by setting the bit that says to delete the messages, but the
deletion actually happens when you next connect to the server to
retrieve mail. However, if this happens on program exit, then it won't
connect and actually delete the mails.

I dealt with it by unchecking the "empty trash on exit" option and now
I just empty the trash manually and make sure to retrieve some
messages afterwards so that the messages actually get deleted
properly.

I keep messages on the server for a few days to make sure I can
download them to both my home and work computer.

Open up the properties of the TBUDL folder (right-click, then

disable sound notification for the TBUDL messages (but not for your

For me, the association is for STM not for WCT - WCT was for Jim
Riccardi.

Also - I don't have a file association problem - .STM files when
double-clicked correctly launch internet explorer which displays them
just fine.

However, I would prefer The Bat! to assign .htm or .html extension to
the messages instead of this weird .STM - and also wonder just where
this information is stored.

Folder Options / File Types seems to be a subset of the information
that's available through regedit - and it's harder to look for in File
Types - since I don't have a "STM files" type or anything like that.

Thanks!

As I mentioned in a different message - my system at work has a
similar problem - the "extension which is the primary association for
the MIME type in the registry" for me is .STM. Once I went into WinAmp
and stopped its grabbing the .STM files - everything started working
for me as far as double-clicking on the file is concerned. However,
now I am curious:

Where is this extension stored - how does TB determine it exactly? I
searched my registry for .STM but pretty much the only place I found
it was as defining it as a text/html type file - but so are .htm and
.html. I would certainly prefer that the messages be called
"message.htm" or "message.html" instead of "message.stm" as they are
now.

Interestingly, at home I also have IE 5.5 (but on win98se) and there,
they are saved as message.html.

I have a very similar problem on my machine - for me, the files are
being saved as "message.stm" - and stm is an extension associated with
WinAmp. Is there a way short of reinstalling IE5.5 to fix the
mime/html encoding default extension (or association)? Where is this
information? I looked under file types in explorer and can't find
anything relevant. Do I really have to go digging in the registry?

Interestingly - except for the different browser (IE instead of Jim's

we seem to be having the exact same problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I will do this, since I
really like the fact that right now I can keep on working on other
stuff while I get list mail (obviously nothing urgent there), whereas
if someone writes to me personally I get immediate nice notification
in the mail ticker - and can decide whether to take some time off to
reply. This way I can control when I read the list mail instead of
being forced to deal with it as it arrives. On the other hand, when I
do decide to catch up on list mail it'd be nice to open one view with
all the unread messages to be read which I could then sort by folder
or whatever.

Anyway - thanks again, hopefully this unread view will be something
that the development team might consider adding sometime - doesn't
seem like it'd be all that difficult to implement given that it seems
almost there already.

Well - but it has to be that way - since the filter rule to delete the
messages from the server is a "Read" filter - so it should activate
when I read the messages, which inherently happens after the messages
come in and are sorted into their respective folders.

Thus my question - is there a way to have a Read filter which will act
on messages in all folders - as opposed to what it looks like I'd have
to do now - which is to make a Read filter for every folder that mail
gets filtered into.

ACM> Once a message has been moved by a filter rule to another folder, that

This would work if my server delete rule would be an Incoming Mail
filter - but that would basically get it back to the behavior I get
now - where as soon as I get mail, it is deleted from the server.
Instead I want it deleted from the server after I read it.

Thanks very much for your response.

Is there a way to make a Read Messages filter work with all folders?

2001-03-14 Thread Leo Zelevinsky

Hello The Bat! Users,

I am a new user - and I love it so far. I have a few questions and
comments, but I figure I'll post them in separate messages so that
people have a chance to reply separately.

I have a POP server and want to read mail from both home and work. I
want to keep messages permanently all at home and just leave them on
the server while reading from work. Here is the problem: Let's say I
have 10 mins only before going to work - I am at home and I open up TB.
It downloads the messages from the server and deletes them from there,
so if I don't have time to read them now, they will stay unread till I
get back home from work. This is not a huge problem but a bit
annoying.

Then, I realize that I could make a filter which will delete the
message from server after I read it. Great - that means that I can
always leave messages on server, but at home as soon as the message is
marked as read, it will be deleted from server. Problem solved.

However, I also have a whole bunch of filters for automatically moving
mailing list mail into their corresponding folders. I notice that the
Read filter seems to only work for one particular folder you specify
in the filter.

Is there any way to make it work for all folders? If not, is there any
other way to achieve what I want?

Thanks a lot for any info!
