re-enlisting G-mane
Hello all, I have been subscribing to TBUDL for quite a while now, and communicated through mail. The mail got too bulky - even the digests - so I gave up and only occasionally glanced and the message on-line. G-mane is a big improvement, but I have lost the instructions as to how to be allowed to post there. I tried posting, but my message never appeared. I guess this is because the e-mail address my newsreader shows is (for obvious reasons!) not my main address, the one I used to subscribe to TBUDL. I do not want to use my main e-mail address on usenet, so do I subscribe again to TBUDL, this time with the email address used for newsgroups? -- Regards, Ochrid _ The Bat! 2.10 Windows XP _ Current version is 2.10.01 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Compuserve and TB! ?
Hello all, My husband has always used Compuserve Classic for access to the Internet and mailing. Since I hooked him onto my little network with a fast adsl connection, he does not need Compuserve to surf the net, but insists he needs it for mail. He does not want to change his e-mail address. At the moment he goes on line with the adsl connection and then starts up his Compuserve mail programme. Seems a bit unpractical to me. - Is it possible to collect his Compuserve mail with TB!? - If yes, how do I arrange that? - Could the address book be imported? (No need to import his old messages, since he can keep Compuserve to access those). Can someone think of something clever? No answers Re: AVG plug in after re-installing?
Hello all, >>Before this becomes a dead horse... I would like to ask if nobody can answer my original question: does one have to re-activate AVG and/or its TB plug in after installing a new version of TB! over an older one? What I find on this subject in the TBUDL Archive goes for al large part over my head. I have read that TB! does not detect infected files in embedded message. Problem is: I don't know what an embedded message is. Is this a message in a digest? And is that the reason why my AVD did not detect the eicar-file? -- Regards, Ochrid _ The Bat! v1.62b7 op Windows XP _ Current version is 1.61 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
AVG plug in after re-installing?
Hello all, Is it possible that the AVG plug in for The Bat! needs to be re-activated after a new version of The Bat! has been installed over an older one? (I am asking because the only thing that had changed before AVG failed to detect John eicar-file, was the installation of TB 1.62b7. All settings seemed to have been kept, but only after I looked at - and thus clicked the 'configuration button' - did AVG again detect the eicar I send to myself properly. Again: I did not change any settings, just clicked Configuration to check). Or is this coincidence? -- Regards, Ochrid _ The Bat! v1.62b7 op Windows XP _ Current version is 1.61 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: eicar : relieve!
Hello all, when I sent myself the eicar-file from http://www.gfi.com/emailsecuritytest/, AVG did indeed warn me with a sound signal and a pop up. I feel ever so relieved! Re: send me eicar, please
thanks everyone for either sending me the eicar file (which still doesn't get detected) or giving other hints and tips. Anthony Xin Chen: I tried to follow your instructions: >Go to Options / Virus Protection /. Select the AVG plug in, then click >on the Configure button at right. Verify in the popup window whether > the "scan messages by this plug-in" option is checked. Under Configure I cannot find the button you mention (only options about sounds and pop-up windows, both checked), but in the general window all options about checking messages are checked (including: check attachment before saving to disc). so no luck there. Hello all, since AVG did not warn me when John unwillingly sent the eicar-file to the list, I got worried. when I try to download the file myself, AVG does sound alarm-popup's , but that is not good enough. therefore: can someone send the eicar test file to me [EMAIL PROTECTED] (I swear this is my own address - at least one of them. ) that seems the only way to check my email security Just eicar please, no real virusses! But my understanding is that updating has nothing to do with detecting the eicar-file, which is there for test purposes only, as I am sure my AVG knows: I tested my system with sending myself the eicar-file a while ago. suddenly weird characters
Hello all, Sometimes, when typing a message in TB!, certain characters will change - i.e. in stead of ( I will get ), colon's become plus-minus-signs etc. Closing TB down and starting it up again usually solves the problem, so I wonder if I clumsily and unwittingly use some short cut that changes the keyboard layout. Would that be possible? AVG and message body
Hello all, After reading some comments in this list, I decided to give the AVG free version a try. I also downloaded and ran the plugin avgbat8us.exe. When I installed the plug in a warning came on to the extent that AVG would not be able to scan the message itself (as opposed to attachments) due to a bug in TB!. I sent myself the eicar.com text, both just as text in an e-mail and in another message as attachment. The latter was instantly recognised, the first not. Does this mean I am still vulnerable to viruses sent to me as part of the text itself? Is this what was meant in AVG's warning? Do I need to take action?
