Re[2]: AVG plug in

2003-09-12 Thread Robert Silver
Hello Spike,
Actually it depends on the digital sign used. If a thawte or
Verisign digital signature is used it means the sender took the
time to enter his/her password and send from his client. That is
the purpose of such devices. So long as it must be entered when the
email is sent and for each it should be valid and as such does
mean that the sender is legitimate and using proper keys. Now in
The bat I should think that would be even better. Unfortunately
there are those keyboard capture virus/trojans out there ,however, I
am pretty sure those would not work on the passwords entered for
Certs because not only the key presses are needed. Also the
mapping keys. The Bat should nicely handle that!
I have to say if every email was authenticated and every IP address
we would have a lot less hacker problems in general!
Imagine every IP traceable to a digital cert owner all traffic
accountable and thereby safer by Id-ing each and every IP address.
Firewalls could then handle abuse rather than waste time with it.

MA Now that is really weird. My Norton just deals with it. (you know,

Definition wise yes but. I have AV 2000 on this machine and it seems
to deal strangely with this virus. It stores temp files on disk and
that trigger AV pop ups to annoying extremes as 100s of popups happen
as part of the folder filter process. Nothing is infected but it is
annoying. I imagine any virus embeded email is safe with the_bat

Also if you know of any substitute SMTP programs I might use to filter
out such viruses or worm as in this case! My ultimate solution was to
turn off auto protect and receive the mail then I looked for .pif
attachments and found one with subject: Re: Documents

I then both tried the removal to verify no infection took place and
sure enough none occurred. I then truned back on auto-protect.

I want to clarify I few things here

2003-01-18 Thread Robert Silver
Editing in HTML and sending Emails in HTML is expected in this century. Yes
Text messages have their place too,
however, do not stamp your feet and send a plain message to friend or
potential client. Many people like html mail
This why the smartest setting on Email is both html and text outbound and
if you never want to see HTML just set your
receive mode to accept only the text part of an html email or bounce the
message, however, do not deprive other users from HTML mail which still has
its place. A client of mine is just the oposite. Hates text plain messages.
Loves HTML
which is why she does not care for the BAT. Also it makes a product look
hoky when graphics com up as square [X]
instead of what it should have. I do agree Javascript should be a security
feature enabled or disabled by the user.
I completely disagree about the let the browser do the work. People like
convenience. i use Opera at times and find it
to open fast so this is less of an issue for me now, but would not it be
nice to down arrow each message seeing a preview displayed without the [X}
graphics and render the actual page with or without script or applet/active
X or flash enable??

Take a look at HotMetal which embeds explorer code. I think something like
that can be done and give you the control while using a dll interface from
the browser vendor to more quickly render the web page clearly and securely.
Again these features should be configurable

I think News groups are an important part of an Email client as well. TB
needs to match the Eudora capbilities while leaving out the security flaws
and inefficiencies, but provide the capability to display messages and edit
messages in HTML.

Again I think a simple switch when installing should nicely take care of the
Mr. Text onlys who hate HTML email. News groups are important and so is the
ability to edit HTML and receive and display it.

Re address of my points regarding improvements for the Bat

2003-01-18 Thread Robert Silver
Hello tbudl,

I doubt anyone will complaint if the bat introduced the following
  improvements:
  Web page viewing Option
  Web Page Editing option
  NNTP USENET News Reader Option

Component wise configuration backup and restore including Folder
sorting filters auto responders etc.. Everything configurable and
any additions to that configuration. Like what they have now only
including filters and any configurable component with a replace or
append option allowing just new filters to be added for example or
replace what is there with what is being restored.

As long as these are kept modular and part of a custom install
everybody is happy. Those who only want plain text can have only
plain text and need not check off the HTML support or varry the
degree to old style of new style As components they only load if
desired. At least The Bat author will have more popularity for his
product. Seems to me he should be thinking about that a lot!

Is it possible to filter out Futuristic Email e.g with Creation datesmore than 2 days into the future??

2003-01-18 Thread Robert Silver
Hello tbudl,

Lately a lot of spam comes in with dates greater than today. Now a
day I can see as there are 24 hrs but 2030 as a year indicates a
desire to put their email on the top of the mail listing.
Is there a way to filter these emails out??

I love the Bat , but why can't the Bat allow me to edit HTMLdocuments or read my USENET news groups. Standard Email features

2003-01-17 Thread Robert Silver
Hello ,
Why can't the bat with all its extra features many of them nice but
some of them not that important do the following:
(1) Edit or use an existing HTML editor in a seamless manner
(2) Have the option of viewing HTML pages in its viewer. The double
clicking attachments is cumbersome. It would be much better if that
feature was simply optional and utilized function calls to existing
browser code like Hotmetal used to do or other HTML editors could.
(3) Read NNTP News Groups
(4) Improve the capability of backing up and restoring configuration
information. It should be easy to backup any feature be it folder
Sorting FILTERS etc..
