Default mailer

2000-03-05 Thread Michael L. Wilson

Greetings,

I was messing around with some settings in office 2000, and
somehow set Outlook 2000 as the default mailer. How to I tell
The Bat to be my default mailer again?

 Thanks.

2000-05-07 Thread Mogens Holst

I'm suddenly getting a (Microsoft Outlook) message during startup of
Windows, that there is no standard program fore- mail - or the present
standard can't cut it (or something to that effect). It goes on to
tell me to run Outlook and name it as standard e-mail.

Are they nuts? Why do I get the message now? And equally important -
how do I kill it? The Bat is selected as e-mail program of choice in
IE , Internet Settings.

You'll find the answer in the TBUDL FAQ at

There is a link to the Program "nsproto.exe", which installs a new

Try Start/Settings/Control Panel/Internet Options/Programs and there under
E-Mail, you should see a drop down list... select TB for your default
mailer.

Re: Default mailer

2000-03-06 Thread Hendrik Hannemann

Here ya go, mate

1. Exit the Bat!

2. Use RegEdit - you should find the registry key names as
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!

3. Make sure that the value "Check default" is set to 0 (zero)

4. Start The Bat! - you should be asked about being the default
   mailer.

5. If you are using Netscape Navigator:

   1) Download http://www.akmail.com/ger/nsproto.exe (1.1 MB)
   2) Install and execute
   3) Make new protocol
   4) Application: c:\program files\the bat!\thebat.exe
(or wherever The Bat! is installed)
  Template: mailto:%a
   5) Save as: mailto
   6) register
   7) enjoy ;-)

In windows 98: goto control panel, select Internet,
select the tab 'programs' & set 'The Bat' as your default
mail-editor...

If another program changes this, the bat will ask you wether it should
be set as default with it's next startup

Making TB the default mailer for Agent

2000-09-21 Thread Karin Spaink

Oomph, I'm sorry for the everlasting questions, but here's
another:

Eudora used to be my default mailer, and even Agent (my
newsreader) invioked Eudora when I replied via mail to a
posting. Now I'd like TB to do the same.

When you invoke MAP under Agent, it starts Eudora --
actually, I had to change something in the registry to do
that, and set

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem]
"MAPI"="1"

I've switched off MAPI in Agent. Now, when I reply to a
Usenet posting via mail, Agent's mail is invoked -- which I
don't want. Any ideas how to make TB my standard mail
client, even for Agent?

The Bat as default mailer in IE

2002-03-11 Thread azure

The Bat is set as the default mail program in IE under Tools/Internet
Options/Programs/Email --> The Bat! but each time I try to Send a Link or Message I
receive the error:

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the
messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail
client." (gee thanks Microsoft)

I am told that The Bat can be been set as a default mail program in IE. I only found
reference to Netscape and Opera in the FAQ. What am I missing?

Thanks,
Shannon

You'll probably have to install MAPI for TB. See
 for instructions how.

Note that although available in version 1.46x, TB's MAPI support is
really in Beta stages. It may or may not work with Agent.

Downloaded the .dll, stored it in my TB progranm directory,
closed TB, opened TB, started Agent, set it on MAPI again
and replied via mail to a random message. Agent invoked
Eudora.

I'm afraid that there's a registry setting that invokes
Eudora.

No, you have to install MAPI in TB. To do this, you have to run once
from the DOS command line:

the_bat.exe /InstallMAPI

in your TB path, of course. This will change the MAPI32.DLL in your
Windows\System directory so that it recognises TB. As Januk said, it's
still in beta stage. Please do let us know whether it works with Agent
yet (feeback to TBBETA appreciated). And everything that is beta is
AYOR, of course. Good luck. ;-)

Re: The Bat as default mailer in IE

2002-03-11 Thread Joseph N.

I don't know whether it is necessary to separately install MAPI
support for IE, but it couldn't hurt (unless you want another mailer
to be the mailer called by other applications). Under the Options
menu (for the account having administrator privileges), go to
Preferences on the first line, then the Appllications tab. Install
the Simple MAPI support by pressing the large button. Close out and
restart the computer and see whether that takes care of it.

bug: TB keeps asking to set as default mailer on XP non-admin account

2004-08-30 Thread dAniel hAhler
Hello TBUDL,

after giving the users on this computer user-only permissions and
re-installing the Office XP suite again the default E-Mail client was
Outlook (forgot to disable that component).

Now TB asks with every program start if it should be set as the user's
default email program and I always say Yes, but it keeps asking.

So I pulled Regmon out and it gives ACCDENIED for this:

1.87635440 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail
ACCDENIED Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel
1.87647201 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail
ACCDENIED Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel
2.02317920 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKCR\.msg ACCDENIED
Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel
2.02327391 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKCR\.msg ACCDENIED
Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel
2.02360719 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKCR\.eml ACCDENIED
Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel
2.02367759 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKCR\.eml ACCDENIED
Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel

[here comes the dialog asking for set-as-default]

2.12346346 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKCR\mailto\shell\open\DDEexec
ACCDENIED Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel
2.12359448 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKCR\mailto\shell\open\DDEexec
ACCDENIED Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel
2.12381741 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKCR\mailto\shell\open\DDEexec
ACCDENIED Access: 0x200 BASE\dAniel
2.12403113 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKCR\mailto\shell\open\DDEexec
ACCDENIED Access: 0x200 BASE\dAniel
2.12412360 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail
ACCDENIED Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel
2.12422026 thebat.exe:3736 CreateKey HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail
ACCDENIED Access: 0xF003F BASE\dAniel

Pity.

I could give permissions for those keys, but they are system-wide anyway
and not user-related, AFAICS.

I changed the default E-Mail application to The Bat in the properties of
the start menu ("show in start menu"), but that does not seem to matter.

Suggestions? Already bugtracked?

Yes, they are system wide, but the define the "default mail client"
for the system. Log-in as an administrator and run The Bat! to have it
set itself as the default client.

That changes the local "default mail client" not the global one. The
Bat! is trying to set the global one.

> Already bugtracked?
This is not really a bug on The Bat!'s part; it's more or a permission
error. However, I hesitate to use "error." Permissions are setup
correctly... Perhaps "side effect" is a better term?
