recipient. It doesn't seem to work.

No wonder, two filter strings in one set means the messages has to
satisfy both conditions to be considered a match. Next time you have
questions about filters, you better post exactly (in detail) how you
set it up, so other people could understand you better. Simply
stating that you have a rule that doesn't work isn't very
informative.

Another question now. Since my rules didn't work I would like to
apply my new, hopefully working filter rule to the messages that
are already in the incoming mail folder. Is there a way of doing
 this?

From menu [Folder | Re-filter] or right click a folder - re-filter.

Looks like you're an inpatient person, ;) for what you asked are
pretty much covered by the FAQ. You do know there's a FAQ, don't

It's annoying because it is not clear. If the two signal strings are
both under first tab "rule", they are connected by AND. If a number of
strings are under the second tab "Alternatives", they are connected by
OR, with each others and with the "rule" rule.

I don't think that this is self-evident by looking at the tabs.

You can create all those operators using what's there. With the 'AND"

it whether to filter if the string is present or if it's not present
through the 'presence' option. It seemed pretty clear to me once I
scanned the help. There are however some other aspects of the filtering
which is far from clear and is undocumented, mainly the flexibility one
has with using the filter sets.. :-(

and the REPLY-TO field in the header, so a simple "sender" test
should work as well as your method, and it's easier to setup,

Ah, see I separate TBUDL and TBBETA mail. So in my situation, any

this job beautifully, hence my use of "nicer." I suppose I could

With the way you have written the string, what is TB searching for?
 Is it,

The strings "Reply-To: TBUDL" or "TBBETA" in the sender fields.

 Or is TB looking for,

The strings "Reply-To: TBUDL" or "Reply-To: TBBETA" in the sender

I'm curious as to the function of the | method of making an OR

Alternatives tab for OR relationships in my filter strings.

It has to be checked only when you other rules to be applied to the
messages that has been handled by the first rule. It won't prevent
other rules to be applied to other messages (that don't match the
first rule).

If indeed enabling the option solves your problem, then the first
rule is preempting the second rule, meaning you've probably had too
broad a filter definition for the first rule.

(a bad default in my opinion).

It's a good default for me (and I guess you'll agree if understand
what exactly the option means), since few of my messages have to be
handled by more than one rule.

With the way you have written the string, what is TB searching for?

Oops, mistaken. I copied yours and modified, but didn't make it

String LocationPresence
TBUDL|TBBETA Sender Yes

I don't need the "Reply-To:" field identifier, since I'm not using
the "Kludge" test.

I'm curious as to the function of the | method of making an OR

Generally speaking, I use the alternative sets only when different
"locations" (or in rare cases, "presence") are involved. In this
case, since both strings are sought in "Sender", there's no need to
use alternative sets.

Theoretically, "(TBUDL in SENDER) or (TBBETA in SENDER)" is the same
as "(TBUDL or TBBETA) in SENDER", but the latter is more natural to
me. I think it's just a matter of habit.
