Thanks for your explanation, but I have done that before (map remote
folder INBOX to local folder INBOX). The mapping works because I am
able to transfer the messages by pressing the button "Start Transfer"
within the mail dispatcher.

*01.11.2001, 14:20:14: FETCH - Connecting to IMAP server imap.xxx.de on port 143
+01.11.2001, 14:20:14: FETCH - IMAP server authentication OK, server says "User logged
+in"
*01.11.2001, 14:20:15: FETCH - 13 new messages detected in 5 mailboxes
+01.11.2001, 14:20:16: FETCH - connection finished - 0 messages received

But the transfer doesn't take place when I press "ALT-F2 aka Check
mail for all".

When I think about it TheBat does two different things when using
"Check mail for all":
- checking (when using IMAP)
- retrieving (when using POP3)

On the other side the tooltip on the button says "GET new mail".

Perhaps a new config item has to be suggested: "Retrieve all messages
automatically" in the account management/mail management config mask.

Ctrl-F2 (dispatch new mai, on server), from there open the Mail Dispatcher
(Ctrl-M). There you can subscribe to IMAP folders (with the "action" button).
You specify which IMAP folder gets transferred to which local TB folder.

2001-11-02 Thread Roberto Machorro

Hi again!

You know, most ISP suck one way or the other. I suggest that
you get an account from a public site and ask them to forward your
e-mail there (they shouldn't have trouble with that, actually they
will love that you aren't using up their harddrive space).

I.e. Yahoo! Mail can accept enough e-mails, then you can download from
POP (that's what I'm doing), they have a small quota but it doesn't
matter if you are downloading locally your e-mail on a regular basis.
I think Hotmail also allows that.

Nothing beats having e-mail locally, especiall for mail lists, it's
great to do searches.

Thanksfor your explanation, but I already knew the
advantages/disadvantages of IMAP. The sad point is that my email
provider allows 10 MBytes or 500 messages on their servers, whatever
comes first. If I want to be subscribed to the linux kernel mailing
list (about 200-400 messages per day) I have to retrieve all messages
to TheBat's local folder. I don't want to select messages on the

Until now I could use POP3 with my account but my provider had
problems with his POP3 support. So I switched to IMAP with the opinion
that this protocol is superior to POP3 and that TheBat should provide
more functionality with IMAP. In reality it seems to be less.

Re: IMAP and receiving all new messages automatically

2001-11-01 Thread Roberto Machorro

AFAIK IMAP doesn't download your messages, it just gets the list of
messages and you download/get them "on the fly". It's all stored and
done in the server.

This has the added advantage that you can check your e-mail on
different machines and you will basically have the same stuff
available to all.

You also save space locally, but you may loose speedines if you have a
slow connection to the server.

That's the theoretical part of it. I no longer use IMAP, and have
always used POP3 with TB, so I don't know how the IMAP support is or
how it words on it.

IMAP and receiving all new messages automatically

2001-11-01 Thread Thomas Schuster

Hello all,

I had to change the protocol of one of my account from POP3 to IMAP.
And now I can't get all new messages of my account automatically.

*01.11.2001, 14:20:14: FETCH - Connecting to IMAP server imap.xxx.de on port 143
+01.11.2001, 14:20:14: FETCH - IMAP server authentication OK, server says "User logged
+in"
*01.11.2001, 14:20:15: FETCH - 13 new messages detected in 5 mailboxes
+01.11.2001, 14:20:16: FETCH - connection finished - 0 messages received

What's wrong with my setting ?

I've tried different settings in "Account_properties" /
"Mail_management": "message_management" and "mail dispatcher".

The only way to get my messages is by connecting manually to the
internet, invoking the mail dispatcher manually and pressing "Start
transfer".

TheBat's helpfile doesn't have much information about IMAP :-(

Your help is very appreciated.
