Hello Everyone, Just created a new imap account which will be primarily handled by a different office. Mail ticker
Hello TBUDLs, Cancel red alert. I don't know what happened but I left the computer for a while and when I came back and did a new fetch, it worked. I even had it set on automatic so it wasn't visible at first but the fetch retrieved 3 new messages and the mail ticker shortly thereafter popped up. -- TIA, Jack LaRosa :usflag: Central Alabama Using The Bat! ver: 5.2. Hello TBUDLs, A long time ago I played around with the mail ticker but never kept it on permanently. Today I played around with it again and although it will display itself with the message "0 new messages", it will never show any un-read messages, new or old. I tested this with a low priority message and I think that you are correct. It had a square with a downward arrow (and the From: and Subj: info was dimmed!). I then noticed that when I was composing a message and clicked on the Options Menu to select Low Priority, the icons to the left of the priority selections looked just like the ones in the Mail Ticker. Also, when I sent my original message I had only seen one "P" but subsequently noticed many more and no "A"s. I (eventually!) realized that I had sent my message around Noon and that the A/P display must be a failed attempt to show me the time of reception. Switching to non-Thin view shows the date below the A/P but still no time shown. Well, since the main purpose for me in the Mail Ticker is to pop up when *any* mail has arrived (replacing the flapping bat wings) the actual content of the Ticker is of less importance. I actually am a little surprised that there is so little customization of the Ticker available. I would expect RitLabs to allow me to determine what is shown for each new message or even just the number of new messages, since if there are many, I have to wait an unknown amount of time to see that info. Oh well, maybe a wishlist item. I have not been able to determine what the green square is which is also displayed on my ticker just as you describe. The "A" and "P" might be the "AM" or "PM" associated with the time of receipt of the message as that is what my ticker shows below the size. I don't know why your ticker would not show the time properly but we have seen some display problems caused by Windows font size. My guess for the green square is "normal" priority, since when you select the priority for a new message, the "normal" menu item has a green square. I created a new folder, TBUDL2, and copied all the mails from the TBUDL folder to it. Then I deleted the TBUDL folder. (Incidentally, with "select-all" and "copy to folder" the mails moved in a flash. And with a progress graph, too. Most delightful.) After that, I created a new TBUDL folder and moved the mails back to it (not to have to change my filter) and now that folder is stable, like all the others. Jumpy Mail Ticker
Hello 9Val! It was truly comforting to me to read your response to Miguel on tbudl in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] , where you said, among a lot of other great things: 9> ... As you probably know, in most cases every evening I make a 9> daily build for internal testing ... So, if building and testing is still going on, is there a chance you can have a look at why the mail ticker is still jumping? Additionally, since I don't consistently read my mail with the ticker the way Paul Cartwright and some others do, I have a focus problem which might be related: When I begin to select messages in the main window from the folder message lists, I use "Sort by Received time, descending order" and "Thread by, None." I like to just go down through the mails chronologically, since I read everything. So, I read a message. Then I click on the blue "Next" arrow. And instead of the next September 2, 2004, message, I will get one from February 25, 2004. Or from August 2. Or June 15. It's random. Usually from the same folder, but not always. I can re-set the conditions. (It doesn't seem to matter whether I've chosen No View Mode or Generic View Mode.) Then they will stay stable and I can use the blue "Next" arrow reliably, until I go to look in another folder. When I come back, the focus is jumpy again. I hoped that this would not carry over from v. 2.12.00 to v. 3.0. However, just like the jumpy mail ticker--to which I wonder if it might not be related--it continues as a minor annoyance. Thank you for considering this problem, if you have the time. I appreciate everything you have done with TB! and your excellent communication with all of us more than words can say! I am still truly enjoying the Smileys, and I think the Roguemoticons in the headers are among the best recent additions to TB!'s unique set of features. -- Best regards, Mary The Bat! 3.0 on Windows XP 5.1 2600 Service Pack 2 Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Mail ticker is not showing
Something is wrong with my mail ticker Display / Preferences said "Display Mail Ticker(TM) Automatically" I had one folder set for showing unread messages on the ticker This was a great way of attracting my attention to incoming messages especially filtered for that folder. Until I decided to change "Display Mail Ticker(TM) Automatically" into "Display Mail Ticker(TM) Always". Since then, the Ticker disappeared like if I selected "Hide". Changing back to Automatically does not help, nor does reinstalling the program. Unchecking this folder for showing messages does not help either. Selecting another folder for showing unread messages on the ticker causes The Bat! to hang. I guess the window parameters of the ticker got disturbed. What config file should I check to correct them? Perhaps I'm experiencing the same thing you are. I think that we are indeed experiencing the same thing. I am old, and I can't recall registering there, but I most probably did--late in 2002 when I first got The Bat! At that time I had a Compaq 4540 with 2.99 GB hard drive and Win95B as the OS. Perry Nelson wrote: > Upon re-reading your message, perhaps I misunderstood what you want. > Are you saying you want to turn the MailTicker off and on altogether? > If so, I don't think that is possible with a hot key. I thought so. I use the mail ticker for my business account only. There are times when I just want to turn it off instead of reading messages. This doesn't happen very often (I usually read the message immediately or ignore the ticker for a few minutes). But there are times when I am in the middle of something and the ticker is distracting. I've tried making the actual scroll box really small, but it still gets in the way on those few occasions. Selecting Options -> Preferences -> Display Mail Ticker isn't that big of a deal, but it would be nice to just quickly toggle the ticker (that's a phrase that needs saying more) Plus, I sometimes forget to turn the ticker BACK ON when I'd like it to be on. Displaying the Connection Center has the ability to assign shortcut keys, so I thought Mail Ticker should as well (they are grouped together in Preferences). Also, I REALLY wish some of the shortcuts assignments could be actual toggles and not one shortcut for ON, one shortcut for OFF. I have the Mail Ticker at the top of my screen on top of the window title bar. I have it set less than full width, so that I can get to the window buttons at top right, and being transparent (about 50% opacity), I can see through the mail ticker to see the details of the title bar underneath. Only 'sent messages', 'trash' and 'quarantine' have that option unchecked, so I guess the default is as it should be. -- Groetjes, Roelof Current version is 1.61 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I was going to say so in my previous message but I forgot. -- Best regards, Miguel A. As I noted in another response, perhaps it would be best to change the default for the Quarantine folder. Someone in the IT biz would know and be able to enable the ticker for the purposes you described. -- JN Current version is 1.61 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hallo Joseph, On Fri, 11 Oct 2002 10:23:15 -0500GMT (11-10-02, 17:23 +0200GMT, where I live), you wrote: JN> Seems to me that the mail ticker should be disabled, with no option to JN> enable it, from the Quarantine folder. Any thoughts? Well, I can imagine situations that make it a plus to be able to alert oneself immediately when you're receiving suspect mails. Especially when you're running a support function on your work or your LAN. In such a case you'd like to be the first to be notified when someone in your department starts spreading viruses. So the present situation is perfect, you can decide for yourself. -- Groetjes, Roelof Current version is 1.61 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

In this case, though, I would agree with the option only if (and, thinking about it, this is the better choice) the default were that the tickler is disabled, not enabled. The danger, it seems to me, is too great that a user--either unsophisticated or just busy--will click the tickler to open a package that has actually been quarantined. Although a good AV program might keep the package from opening, it's still an unnecessary risk. -- JN Current version is 1.61 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Quarantine Folder and Mail Ticker
Before I submit a RFE, I thought I would float this here: Seems to me that the mail ticker should be disabled, with no option to enable it, from the Quarantine folder. Any thoughts? -- JN Current version is 1.61 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
