THAT was the problem Rob... I hadn't installed the International Pack
which explains the 'empty' database. Now that I've got it installed,
the British Dictionary/Spell Checker works just fine. Thanks.

funny ... it shouldn't even show under 'spell checker - language' after a
normal TB install.

or do you mean the CSAPI dictionary ?? the ones _under_ the line ...
i installed TB here at work where MS Office also is installed and i get a
bunch of CSAPI dicts. ; one of them is British English, but when i select it,
it turns grey (unselectable) ... ??

Yes, it was a selectable item after I did the initial install. In
addition, I too have Office 2K, and because of that, I too had the
additional Dictionaries 'under' the line... but even 'they' didn't
work properly. Now that I have the International Pack, the British
Dictionary works just fine, and I'm going to leave the CSAPI

once I get more comfortable using TB, I might take a second look at
why the CSAPI inclusions don't work for me.

Hello Rob,

R what's the problem with the dictionaries

Well, if I choose the built-in British Dictionary, almost every word I
type has the wavy red line under it... it's almost as if there are no
words at all in the British Dictionaries database. Spellling mistakes
like this are caught, but the suggested word is "Telling" of all
things. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it's suggested
list of alternate words.

I must having something amiss in my installation, because this
wouldn't be tolerated by anyone, but I don't know what I've done
wrong, or how to correct the problem.

Right now, I have to go back and correct almost 98% of the words I
just typed, because they have those wavy red lines underneath them.
Very frustrating indeed!! What is worse, is that it doesn't even pick
up the REAL spelling mistakes most of the time.
