Does your mail directory tree reflect what's happening in TB! after
you've made the adjustments? If not, then this is likely why the
folders are being recreated.

In your */The Bat!/Mail directory, there should be only directories
with the names of your accounts. If there are other directories there,
then these are common folders. You need to get rid of those as well. I
suggest moving them to another location first, in case you need their
contents. Be sure to readjust your filters as well so that they aren't
pointing to any of the common folders you wish to get rid of.

If mail in any of your folders disappears on a restart, then it's
likely that you need to copy the message bases from the
correspondingly named common folder into it.

How on earth did you end up with 40 Common Folders? Did you create them at
one time then decide you didn't want them any longer? I remember a
discussion quite some time ago...around the time they were first
introduced, where you could delete one file in the TB Directory and they
no longer appeared. Sorry I cannot be more specific, but if you search
back through the Archives looking under the heading of Common Folders, you
will eventually come to it. ;o)

Re: Version 1.60 and Common Folders

2002-04-02 Thread Anthony Xin Chen

Hello Steve,

I have just joined the list so that I am not sure if the following has
already been suggested.

When bat is not running, you can try to move everything under your
account directory to somewhere else first, leaving a empty account
directory. * You may prefer to remove duplicates messages and common
folders first.

Say you have an account named "Foo" which points to directory c:\Foo.
Then you should save everything under this directory to somewhere
else, leaving an empty c:\Foo around.

Then restart your bat, see if it creats any common folder this time
around. If it does, remove any un-desirable folders. Close and restart
again.

If everything is OK now, copy the previously saved messages back into
its original position.

I have used the methods described above several times during change of
machine and reinstallation with no problem.

Hope it helps.

Re: Version 1.60 and Common Folders

2002-04-02 Thread Steve Mullarkey

Hi TBUDL,

Firstly, many thanks to all who have made suggestions. However it is
taking all my self-control not to explode. I can't believe what TB! is
doing to me !!

I did as you all suggested. I deleted the common folders taking care
to retain the message bases. That was fine. It appeared I was back to
pre 1.60 days.

HOWEVER, (excuse my bad temper!) next time I started TB! it recreated
all the common folders again.

I thought that perhaps I had done something wrong SO .. I
deleted all the common folders yet again. There are about 40 folders
so it takes some manual work. I exited TB! and restarted. TB!
recreates the common folders yet again !

I am stumped! That's a cricketing term but I expect you can all guess
exactly how I feel.

I do NOT want two copies of every folder. I do NOT want my msg
searches to show every msg appearing TWICE. I do NOT want this
confusion.

Please excuse my frustration.

It happened to me many betas ago. I thought I had done something
stupid. I don't even remember what it was. But I do remember that it
took lots of experimenting to figure out which of the new folders was
actually going to be what TB was using, and took a couple of false
starts and restores, because I didn't know what Peter pointed out.

Nope :-) It did not 'happen to me', I've 'made it happen to be sure
about the facts' :-)

Some things are able to be evaluated by 'thinking about them' and
after I sometimes had my folders doubled I came to the idea "this must
be a 'second reference'" and did some testings :-)

But that's another theme and I'll stop discussing it on TBUDL :-)

Have a nice monday all out there :-)

Oh cripes! You're the second one that has reported this terrible
situation on this list. Most don't get this problem and we don't know
what it is that triggers its occurrence.

If your old folders are intact, why not delete the newly created ones.
You'll have to go through your filters and readjust things.

Sorry to see that this has befallen you but it's really unusual and
not supposed to happen.

That's because it's not supposed to happen. It happened to me too
during the early beta tests. I don't quite remember what I did to fix
it, only that I was an isolated case and the problem was not
reproducible. I suggest: backup your accounts; delete the common
folders opting to "keep mail-base files intact". I remember fiddling
about at the OS folder structure level in the end to get it right.

Another thing to try is to keep a fail-safe copy of account.srx,
delete *all* folders then use the Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L key combo to
restore folders. I don't like doing this too often because it makes
extra folders under my primary account from my secondary accounts.

I know that the problem is solvable but don't remember how, because it
happened to me last year and I didn't make notes as I thrashed around
for a fix.

> Why is there nothing in the "Help File" on what seems to me to be a

Because there is no behavioural change of any significance. Global
folders are simply ordinary folders that live outside the domain of a
single account. Nothing to explain about their behaviour - no change
to the help file.

You haven't missed the point - you've had a bit of bad luck with it.

Re: Version 1.60 and Common Folders

2002-03-31 Thread Steve Mullarkey

Hi TBUDL,

I have been a (mostly) happy TB! user for a couple of years. However I
have just upgraded from 1.54 to 1.60 and I am worried and unhappy.

I have two accounts and a number of folders and filters in each
account.

TB! 1.60 has created duplicate folders of many of my folders outside
of the accounts. Messages are now contained in the new folders and in
the old folders inside the accounts. In addition a number of my
filters are now not working or the behaviour is different.

>From reading this list I notice a new topic "Common Folders" so I
looked for an explanation in the Help File. NOTHING - not a word!

So next I looked in the "readme.txt" file history list. I see one line
that says :-

"[+] It is now possible to create folders "outside" accounts"

Is that it? Is that a full explanation?

I didn't ask TB! to do this. Why has it changed my folders without
asking or even advising me?

Why is there nothing in the "Help File" on what seems to me to be a
major behaviour change?

I have been a great fan of TB! and recommended it to several friends
and colleagues but RITLabs this is not the way to go.

Perhaps I am missing the obvious, if so, I apologize for my frustrated
mood. Is there some beautiful clear explanation on this for me? Can
someone show me where I'm missing the point.
